Mathis, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie for the Houston Texans in 2005 while averaging a superb 28.6 yards a return, had been limited by injuries to just five games the past two seasons. Since Mathis, a standout at Hampton (Va.), didn't receive a bonus for signing April 4, his release didn't cost the Redskins anything"

Bravo Chris, occhio a non far scendere le prestazioni ora...

Svelato in parte l'arcano...in pratica James sarebbe stato sulla lista di parecchie squadre, e dato l'ordine di prelazione dato dal meccanismo dei waivers non avrebbero mai potuto prenderlo. La domanda è perchè fare la guerra per prendere un giocatore che da quando è professionista non ha mai avuto la salute dalla sua parte, d'altro coanto il fatto che i Vikings non ci abbiano più creduto è molto indicativo. Si parla di un recupero oramai arrivato al 90%, il che vuol dire che per l'inizio della stagione il giocatore sarà a posto, tuttavia per questi tipi di infortunio la ricaduta ahimè è molto frequente, ed alla prossima ci andrà di mezzo la sua carriera.

On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings informed Erasmus James that they planned to release him. James was an injured defensive end without a home.

Now, he's a member of the Washington Redskins.

Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerato called Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday and convinced him to trade James instead of releasing him. In exchange for James, the Vikings will receive a conditional seventh-round pick in 2009.

For the Vikings to receive the draft choice, James has to make the Redskins roster.

"He is young, talented and has a great deal of potential," Cerrato said.

The trade was made possible because of the holiday weekend. With no waiver wire on Friday because of the Memorial Day holiday, the Vikings couldn't process James' release until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Over the weekend several teams made inquiries to James' agents about putting in a waiver claim on the injured defensive end.

The Redskins were forced to act because offseason waiver claims are processed in reverse order of a team's record from the previous season, meaning 20 teams had priority over the Redskins. By making the conditional trade, the Redskins controlled James' rights.

James has had three surgeries on his left knee and has missed 24 games over the past two seasons. The Redskins believe James is 90 percent healed from his most recent surgery and would have a chance to be healthy by the start of the regular season.

Potrebbe farla, è un ruolo per il quale la profondità a noi manca, comunque non penso che insidierà il posto di Reed Doughty.
