Cutler unhappy with Marshall for getting hurt
Associated Press

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Jay Cutler has had it with all the drama and headlines surrounding top target Brandon Marshall.

In his first offseason interview, one sprinkled with unusually blunt criticism, the Denver Broncos quarterback called out his No. 1 receiver and fellow third-year star who suffered a gash on his right forearm while horsing around last month.

"Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now."

With Jeremy Bates taking over the Broncos' passing game, Cutler said Tuesday that it was imperative for Marshall to participate in all the offseason workouts, but he won't be back in action until training camp.

"We're going to be fine. I'm not that overly concerned about it, but it just would be nice coming into our third year, coming off a big year he had last year, for him to get more work done and get more time in and just a little more trust out there," Cutler said. "But it's going to take some time now, maybe training camp, maybe even longer."

Marshall, who emerged as Cutler's primary target during a breakout 2007 season, said he was horsing around with his older brother at a resort in Orlando, Fla., when he fell into a television set, cutting an artery, a vein, a nerve, two tendons and three muscles in his right arm.

Marshall has found himself in the news a lot lately. He faces a DUI charge stemming from an October incident and had a spat with his girlfriend last year that landed him in court. And he was partying with Darrent Williams the night the cornerback was slain in a drive-by shooting on Jan. 1, 2007. Former teammate Javon Walker said Marshall sprayed champagne on some bar patrons, sparking a confrontation that preceded the shooting, which remains unsolved.

"I've talked to him many times. I think a lot of people have. ... He knows he's running out of chances," Cutler said. "This wasn't like his DUI and other stuff he's had. It was an accident, but still, things like that can't happen. He knows it.

"But like I told him, I said, 'Brandon, they're going to quit giving you chances and you're going to have to go somewhere else. And that's going to be a shame."'

Marshall said last week that he realizes he has to grow up and that his freak injury was a wakeup call.
"His DUI was a wakeup call," Cutler retorted. "He's had many wakeup calls. I mean, he's been in (coach Mike) Shanahan's office many times. I've been up there with him. He said the same thing: 'This is a wakeup call. This is the last thing that's going to happen. Blah blah blah.' I mean, until he goes out and proves it, we'll see what happens."

Cutler wants to have trust in his No. 1 receiver.

"I love Brandon to death and he's a great kid at heart. I don't think he goes out there looking for trouble. He's not at bars late. He's not doing those things that other people do. It's just something about him. He's always into something," Cutler said. "Like I told him, 'I haven't lost faith in you. I'll still support you. But ... you're going to have to prove yourself this time."'

Marshall, a fourth-round draft choice in 2006 out of Central Florida, blossomed into the Broncos' best receiver last year, facilitating the recent release of Walker, who was replaced by free agent Keary Colbert.

Cutler isn't losing any sleep over the departure of the oft-injured Walker, who signed with the rival Oakland Raiders.

"Javon's a great receiver, but Javon he likes the spotlight and he likes the ball coming to him a lot," Cutler said. "With Brandon and him out there it would be tough. You've got to have a No. 1 guy you want to go to. I think Brandon was going to be my guy. I don't know if Javon was going to be OK with 40, 50, 60 balls."

The free agent departure Cutler is fretting over is the loss of 15-year veteran kicker Jason Elam, who had four game-winning field goals last season and who signed with Atlanta for $3.3 million guaranteed money in 2008, nearly $1 million more than the cost-conscious Broncos were offering.

"I have a little worry about that," Cutler said. "I mean, one of the best clutch kickers in the game. Been here for that long. I was surprised to see we let him go."

Another concern for Cutler is left tackle, where Chris Kuper will get first crack at replacing the retired Matt Lepsis, who protected Cutler's blind side.

"It's a big position for me," Cutler said.

Trading down new strategy
If the Broncos make a move on draft day, it will most likely be down the board, not up.
ovvio
And the Broncos are trying to trade out of their No. 12 overall pick, according to three NFL sources. The Broncos could receive a late first-round pick as well as a third-round pick based on the NFL draft value chart.

Trading down won't be easy, primarily because other teams want to make the same move. Conversely, there likely aren't many partners willing to move up and take on the extra money required to sign the No. 12 pick, which is expected to command a guarantee of about $11 million.
11 milioni? :shocking: concordo con il trade down :gazza:
A logical trading partner for the Broncos would be the Dallas Cowboys, who have the Nos. 22 and 28 picks. The Broncos also have made deals in the past with the Detroit Lions, who have the No. 15 pick, Houston (No. 18), Tampa Bay (20) and Washington (21).

One reason the Broncos prefer to trade down is there doesn't figure to be a franchise-type player at their need positions — offensive tackle, defensive tackle and receiver — available at No. 12. Left tackle Jake Long and defensive tackles Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis are all projected top-10 selections. And there may not be a receiver considered worthy of a top-12 pick.

Another factor is a large supply of running backs, offensive tackles and receivers ranked between the mid-first round and late-second round, so the Broncos believe they could find better production-to-dollar value by picking later than No. 12.
credo che si aspetterà il draft. se andranno via i top pick, come è probabile, si dovrebbe scendere
One scenario that would be certain to please quarterback Jay Cutler: The Broncos use their first two picks to take Vanderbilt left tackle Chris Williams and receiver Earl Bennett.
va beh, se va bene a lui va bene anche a me (ma anche no :D)
Finances could be coming into play. The Broncos have cut expenses in some areas this offseason, spent judiciously in others. Why give 12th- pick money to the likes of Williams, safety Kenny Phillips, defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer or receivers Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas and DeSean Jackson if they can be had for less money later in the first round?
ragionamento che non fa una piega.
la morale di questo articolo? I want Kenny!!! :metal:

The Browns offered close to the minimum salary of $730,000 to former Broncos captain Al Wilson, who would have competed for an inside linebacker position in their 3-4 defense. But even after missing last season to recover from a neck injury, Wilson figures his five Pro Bowl nominations are worth more than a minimum salary and turned it down.
è un insulto per Al :nono:

partenze e arrivi
The Broncos reached an agreement Monday with former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Samie Parker on a one-year contract.
...[dati sul giocatore]...
Parker, 27, was to receive the minimum $605,000 salary plus a $40,000 signing bonus. It will take more to sign Jackson, who caught 10 touchdown passes for Seattle in 2006, but had just 47 catches last year following a trade to San Francisco.
punter named Danny Baugher, who the team signed Tuesday.

Although he has bounced between locker rooms in New England and Cincinnati the past two years, Baugher has yet to punt in an NFL game. But Baugher, 24, performed well in NFL Europa last year and has the kind of young potential the Broncos sought to compete with Sam Paulescu.
The Broncos could revisit Vanderjagt, 38, and Berger, 35, after the draft.
The Broncos made two more roster cuts today: Chad Upshaw, nephew of NFL players' union boss Gene Upshaw, and receiver Derrick Hamilton.

They were waived one day after the Broncos cut defensive tackle Antwon Burton.

The Broncos have nine picks in the draft, which begins April 26, but currently have just two open spots on their 80-man roster.
per me saranno anche di più :gazza:
