non si va al Mare
On Thursday, after offers were exchanged between the two teams and agent Drew Rosenhaus, Olindo Mare accepted a two-year, $3.5 million deal from the Seahawks. The 34-year-old veteran will be the replacement for Brown, who had been the Seahawks' franchise player a year ago.
salutiamo anche Nick Ferguson
The Houston Texans signed free-agent safety Nick Ferguson.
Ferguson spent the past five seasons in Denver, where he started seven games last season and had 55 tackles. His best season came in 2005 when he had 79 tackles and five interceptions.
The numbers are in on new offensive lineman Casey Wiegmann. Keeping with the Broncos' budget-tightening ways, the exchange of Wiegmann for Chris Myers as a top reserve did save the team money.
To keep the restricted free-agent Myers, 26, the Broncos in hindsight likely would have needed to slap him with a second-round tender and $1.41 million salary. Instead, the team gave Myers only a sixth-round tender and he was snatched away last week by the Texans, who immediately made him their starting center.
To fill Myers' role, the Broncos gave Wiegmann, 34, a $300,000 signing bonus, an $830,000 salary for 2008 and a $100,000 workout bonus. Add it up, and the Broncos are likely to pay $1.23 million to Wiegmann this season, or $180,000 less than what they would have paid Myers as a second-round tender.

Leinart was close to being drafted by the Denver Broncos, however the move didn't come to fruition after the Buffalo Bills refused to trade their 8th pick with Denver

The Broncos signed free-agent quarterback Cullen Finnerty.
Finnerty was on the Baltimore Ravens' active roster for the final two weeks of last season after first playing on their practice squad. He hasn't appeared in any preseason or regular-season NFL games.

The NFL season will open Thursday, Sept. 4 with the Washington Redskins playing at the defending Super Bowl-champion New York Giants. The Sunday night game in week 1 will feature the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.

Broncos revive pursuit of Jets' Robertson

As the NFL meetings get going, the Broncos are starting to revive their interest in Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson.
The Broncos were close to dealing for Robertson in mid-March but the talks were stalled when the team suddenly fired general manager Ted Sundquist on March 12. Sundquist was the point man in the talks with the Jets.
With Sundquist now out of the picture and with Denver still needing a force in the middle of its young front four, the team has reconsidered making a deal for Robertson, a talented player who doesn't fit in the Jets' scheme.
Still, finalizing a deal will be difficult for Denver. Robertson's contract will have to be restructured and the team has been in on-again, off-again talks with his agent, Hadley Engelhard, for several weeks. Robertson is due a $3 million bonus in June and he has salary-cap number of about $11 million for this season.
Denver would have to redo the deal to make it fiscally worthwhile, especially with the Broncos in a cost-conscience mode this offseason.
The Broncos are said not to be overly concerned about an Robertson's knee problem. The issue was serious enough, however, to negatively impact a potential trade early in March that would have sent Robertson to Cincinnati for two mid-round picks.
At this point, it seems, the only hurdle standing in the way of Denver making its biggest splash of the offseason is coming to an agreement with Robertson financially.
