effettivamente l'handicap in partenza l'abbiamo avuto, ma allo stesso tempo anche gli Spurs si son ritrovati presto senza Duncan e comunque il break iniziale siamo riusciti a ricucirlo già verso la fine del primo quarto.
Il problema è che abbiamo toppato in maniera clamorosa l'avvio del primo e del terzo quarto. Un commento molto più lungo e noioso l'ho messo nel topic della serie :D
Due spunti.
Il primo riguarda il quintetto base. Nel primo quarto abbiamo iniziato tirando 2/17, nel terzo 2/10. Ora, durante questi orribili momenti di tiro non abbiamo sempre avuto il quintetto titolare (ad esempio nel primo tempo abbiamo avuto Najera al posto di Nowitzki, con due falli, per un po'. Nel secondo tempo Carlisle ha inserito Terry prima del primo visto causa abulia difensiva).
Ormai è tardi per dirlo e per fare esperimenti, però a me l'assortimento degli esterni non convince. Non convince perché dalla panchina escono due giocatori come Barea e Terry che sono entrambi di rottura, e che necessitano di prendere tiri e iniziative, per rendere al meglio, e di correre molto. Inoltre sono entrambi bassini, quindi possono rendere in situazioni particolari, tipo quando gli Spurs schierano Parker e Hill. Ma già se c'è Ginobili si inizia a soffrire.
Fortunatamente il Kidd di quest'anno se la cava molto bene da 3, altrimenti il quintetto iniziale sarebbe stato a mio avviso poco in grado di aprire l'area.
Altra cosa. Finora non mi pare che si sia mai andati small. Non so se è la soluzione ideale, ma sarei curioso di vedere, in alcuni frangenti, un quintetto Kidd, Terry, Butler, Marion, Nowitzki. Con Marion su TD. Vero è che a questo punto Popovich potrebbe rispondere mettendo Jefferson da 4 è sputtanare tutto :D , perché il tedesco dovrebbe andare sul perimetro.
Insomma nessuna soluzione, giusto qualche considerazione.

Sì vabbé però ragazzi il problema non possono e non devono essere i 2 falli di Dirk. Una squadra star-dipendente ai playoffs non va da nessuna parte, come i Cavs dello scorso anno hanno abbondantemente dimostrato.
Se vogliamo combinare qualcosa bisogna, come dicevo qualche post su, che il resto della truppa alzi il livello di rendimento. Marion, Butler, Terry e Kidd sono giocatori da PO e lo devono dimostrare. Non può essere che la croce cada sempre sul capitano e che sia costretto a tirare con l'85% per farci vincere.
Se gli Spurs contassero solo su Duncan sarebbero già belli che sepolti, invece eccoli qui a lottare per la semifinale con i vari Gino, Jefferson e Parker sugli scudi.
...Ciò detto, ma che li spenda Dampsega i falli!!! Lo abbiamo tenuto proprio per averne 6 di bonus in più a partita!!
I’m not certain I can explain why Rick Carlisle would demote Erick Dampier from Designated Duncanator and elevate Brendan Haywood into the job. But I'm not sure I can criticize it, either. Because as Game 2 played out ... what was the difference, really? It was a coin flip that came up "neither.''
I can only say that the only real challenge met by Damp and Big Wood in the Mavs’ Game 2 loss was a challenge with one another: Which of them would be less effective in slowing Tim Duncan?
Duncan’s been similarly terrific on offense in both games, following up his 27-point effort in Game 1 with 25 more on Wednesday in Game 2's 102-88 Spurs victory. (Duncan scored 10 in the fourth and also collected 17 boards in the game.) But in G1, Damp’s physicality seemed to create some at-least-minor problems for Timmy in the first game … and in neither game do I believe Big Wood was effective at all.
Dampier once again started and played 22 minutes. Brendan Haywood was allowed to be the finisher and played 26.
After the game, I was given all sorts of different signals on the strategy … and on the results. Did Haywood play well? Did he play poorly? Was he himself doghoused there for a minute? Did Brendan get tired? Was Rick simply trying to throw Duncan a changeup?
If Duncan is unleashing his jump-hook from deep into the paint, is there anything anyone – Damp or Big Wood -- can do to stop it?
Dallas knows what it’s getting into here. The postgame evaluation from Dirk:
“He's long, he's skilled and he'll never lose his skill set," Nowitzki said of Duncan. "You've got to honor his bank shot there. If you push up on him, he can still drive and finish with both hands around the rim. He's still tough on the glass because he's so bottom-heavy you can't push out. And he gets (offensive rebounds) and puts them right back in. … We knew he'd be a handful and he really made some great plays down the stretch."
That’s the Mavs’ evaluation of Tim Duncan.
I’m still working on getting a credible evaluation from the Mavs themselves of the two centers assigned to guard him.
But let's start with what we said about Damp after Game 1: His work on pick-and-roll defense was textbook stuff. I'm standing by that. (I haven't done the Damp Game 2 breakdown of the same yet.)
Now, I can tell you that after watching a handful of tape on Haywood's Game 2 performance ... when it came to pick-and-roll defense, Big Wood was completely lost.
And for the moment, put aside Duncan's boxscore effectiveness; if you are a Mav and you cannot defend the pick-and-roll, you cannot be on the floor against a Spurs team that, according to Mavs' stat-keepers, ran it 83 times in Game 1. ... and, I'm suppose, somewhere just below that range in G2.
(By the way: I say that rule goes for Mavs perimeter defenders, too. ... but this column isn't supposed to be about JJB, so I'll stop there.)
So, Big Wood or Damp?
For now, I’ll go with colleague David Lord’s calculation and summation:
*Duncan played 36 minutes and was a +26. Yikes.
*Dampier played 22 minutes against Duncan and was a -20. Per 36 minutes, that's a -32.7 rate.
*Haywood played the other 14 minutes against Duncan and was a -6. Per 36 minutes, that's a -15.4 rate.
When Duncan sat, Haywood played another 12 minutes and was +12, which gives him glittery stats against the junior varsity.
But the name of the center game is how well you do against Timmy and how well you do against the Spurs' pet play. ... and neither Mavs center was any good at those job requirements.

Vediamo di evitare di far entrare in partita i vari Jefferson, McDyess, Bonner... di mettere in ritmo i loro tiratori, di farci mangiare a rimbalzo.

La serie parla chiaro, loro sono in grado di bloccare quasi tutti i nostri, noi veniamo ogni volta battuti da Ginobili(col naso rotto) e Duncan,Charlise continua a non capire che la freschezza atletica di Beaubois ci farebbe utile per tenere almeno Parker invece di farlo penetrare ogni volta come ormai Kid è costretto a fare. Li Spurs li batti correndo e infatti quando abbiamo corso abbiamo messo il parziale (poi sprecato come al solito :sbadat: ) se continuiamo a giocare alla loro velocità la serie possiamo anche smettere di giocarla.
