Modifications in place for All-Star Game
New DH rule among four changes to Midsummer Classic

The All-Star Game will now have a designated hitter regardless of which league is hosting the contest, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.

The updated designated hitter rule came among a list of other procedural changes the league has officially adopted for its jewel event at the recommendation of the Special Committee for On-field Matters. Other changes include a restriction on pitchers who have pitched the Sunday before the game, a one-man increase in the number of position players elected and a unique re-entry rule.

These rules will all be in place for the 2010 All-Star Game hosted by the Anaheim Angels.

The new changes have also been agreed upon by the Players Association.

The designated hitter rule also stipulates that the National League's DH will be chosen by the manager, while the junior circuit's DH will continue to be chosen by fans.

In an effort to protect pitchers who have started a regular season game on the Sunday immediately before the game, these players will not be eligible to pitch in the game and will be replaced. As with any player who is ineligible or unable to play, they will still be recognized as an All-Star.

A re-entry rule also makes its debut this year. In addition to the existing injured catcher rule, the manager is now allowed to select one position player to re-enter a game in the event that the last available position player at any position is injured.

Non me la prendo. Già l'anno scorso ho segnalato i miglioramenti di Braun, che è diventato un signor giocatore sul serio aggiungendo le BB. Quello che è giusto ed evidente è vero. Così come è vero che prima fosse un giocatore inferiore e che nel 2008 abbia giocato sui livelli di Giles e che non abbia ancora toccato le vette in carriera di quest'ultimo. Continuando così potrebbe anche farlo. Ma non è che i miglioramenti odierni riscrivano il suo valore negli anni passati.
Dico di più: se la sua BB% è "vera", giocando da LF può arrivare alla Hall of Fame, per quanto possa essere prematuro parlarne adesso.

Former major leaguer Dave Roberts is currently being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Roberts, 37, was diagnosed in mid-March and said that the cancer was detected early. The former post-season hero in Boston has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy and calls the prognosis for recovery "good." Roberts currently works as a special assistant for the Padres.

Qualcuno ha l'Iphone e usa l'app AT BAT?
Volevo prendere quel telefono perchè ho visto dei filmati dell'applicazione della MLB ed è veramente fatta bene, poi poter seguire l'MLB anche fuori casa mi ridarebbe un po' di vita sociale.
L'unica cosa è che non so quanti MB si possono consumare guardando gli HL o un po' di Gameday, le offerte per gli Iphone sono tutte limitate ad un tot di traffico mensile e si sfora poi costa un sacco.
Qualcuno sa qualcosa?
