Resto convinto che una sua trade sia legata strettamente a come andranno ad incastrarsi i tasselli nel primo round.. diciamo che se deve muoversi qualcosa sarà massimo entro venerdi secondo me. Come te spero resti.. anche se non bisogna dimenticare che qualche scelta in più tra secondo e terzo round potrebbe farci molto comodo e la fiducia in Cousins c'è.

Ravens DE Trevor Pryce has agreed to a $2.5 million salary slash, bringing his 2010 base pay down to $2 million.
Pryce led the Ravens in sacks (with a measly 6.5) last season, but he's no longer an every-down player and turns 35 before the season. Pryce was going to be a potential roster casualty had he not agreed to the pay cut.

• ESPN.com's Bill Simmons says the Ravens will draft Penn State defensive lineman Jared Odrick.

• The Boston Herald's Karen Guregian thinks the Ravens will select Georgia Tech wide receiver Demaryius Thomas in the first round.
They just keep loading up at receiver.

• Greg Cote of the Miami Herald says Thomas is going to be drafted by the Ravens.
Crows would love TE Jermaine Gresham but he won't last. Team got Anquan Boldin in a trade but wants more weapons for Joe Flacco. Cornerback is the only other position that could be the pick here.

• David White of the San Francisco Chronicle agrees that the Ravens will grab Thomas at No. 25.
Could it be, the Ravens want to really become a passing offense?

• The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter also thinks Thomas is the Ravens' choice.
Perfect spot for Thomas, who can learn from veterans Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason.

• Emmanuel Pepis of NewOrleans.com breaks down the first three rounds of the NFL draft. He says the Ravens will take Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty at No. 25 and Northwestern defensive end Corey Wootton at No. 57.
Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers -- For the Ravens, Joe Flacco has made the progression you wanted from him to this point. Now it's a matter of which need wins out. Do you find a weapon to bolster your offense or try to inject some ability back into that secondary with your first pick? In the end, I believe they'll go the corner route. McCourty has great speed and can break up passes well. He's also solid in special teams and is an aggressive tackler. It's between him and Demaryius Thomas here, but I think the Ravens will wind up going defense.

• The (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer's Charles Chandler believes the Ravens will select Texas safety Earl Thomas in the first round.

• The writers for the Red Zone blog on KansasCity.com think Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham is the right choice for the Ravens.

Hai ragione, Thomas è da parecchio un mio pallino, ma l'errore che secondo me alcuni fanno è quello di considerarlo un giocatore già pronto a produrre con costanza. Demaryius è un giocatore dotato di enormi mezzi fisici ma abituato a giocare in un sistema che faceva abbondante uso di corse e che gli permetteva di aggredire il profondo e di trovarsi uno contro uno con il difensore; necessiterà giocoforza di un lungo periodo di aggiustamento e di parecchio allenamento per diventare un WR di livello NFL, sperando che la presenza di Boldin e Mason in squadra lo aiuti a raggiungere nel minor lasso di tempo possibile la piena maturità.


Uscendo un attimo dal gioco dei Mock, comunque, credo che sia importante innanzitutto vedere se come è capitato in passato (Ngata e Oher) dei giocatori di talento assoluto scivoleranno fino a noi tra il primo ed il secondo giro. Qualora ciò non dovesse accadere ma restassero ancora disponibili almeno 4 o 5 dei giocatori più graditi, potrebbe essere interessante scendere di qualche posizione, sperando che qualcuno dietro di noi voglia puntare su alcuni degli uomini di linea che saranno ancora liberi o su Jimmy Clausen che potrebbe essere ancora disponibile ed aggiungendo qualche pick nei round successivi.

Partendo dal presupposto che al momento secondo me il solo Dez Bryant può valere un ruolo da WR1 in NFL, il discorso che fai tu di Thomas mi trova d'accordo. Diciamo che l'aver fatto parte di una squadra che faceva del running game la sua prima arma oltre la sua abilità nel profondo, sono due elementi che lo rendono un WR adatto alle nostre "esigenze" sia per il nostro tipo di gioco sia per il tipo di QB che abbiamo. Non a caso Flacco in questi due anni non ha fatto esplodere grandissimi bolidi nel profondo proprio per mancanza di giocatori con grande rapidità/abilità.

Sul resto del discorso mi trovo in totale accordo.. mi permetto di aggiungere "Mount Cody" alle possibilità di primo giro. A proposito, ho visto diversi video in questi giorni e devo dire che McCourty mi ha lasciato davvero un ottima impressione, molto bravo nella posizione e ottimo negli anticipi.. saltasse, come probabile, Wilson preferirei lui a Jackson al momento.

5 Things That Could Affect Ravens’ Pick

1.       A run on tackles

Ravens Director of Player Personnel Eric DeCosta believes there could be a run on offensive tackles in the first round, similar to 2008 when a staggering eight tackles were drafted in Round 1. DeCosta said he envisions six or seven tackles taken, which would greatly benefit the Ravens.

Essentially, if several teams overvalue tackles, it would push players at other positions down the board and the Ravens could get a steal at No. 25.

Oklahoma State’s Russell Okung, Oklahoma’s Trent Williams, Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga and Rutgers’ Anthony Davis are widely-regarded as first-round shoo-ins. Keep an eye on Southern California’s Charles Brown, Maryland’s Bruce Campbell and Indiana’s fast-rising Rodger Saffold.

Another reason why this is important is that if tackle-needy teams like the Redskins, Chiefs, Raiders, 49ers, Packers or Cowboys don’t get a big man in the first round, they could be interested in a possible trade with the Ravens for Jared Gaither.

2.       Draft-day trades

Speaking of trades, it seems every team’s media outlet is calling for their team to trade down in the first round and acquire more picks. The majority of the chatter surrounds the Redskins (No. 4), Browns (7) and Dolphins (12).

The issue with this is that everyone knows this is a deep draft, so teams may not be willing to pay the price, both in draft picks and salary, required to move up. Like Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome says, you have to have a willing partner to make a trade happen.

The Ravens, with just five picks, seem like a team that could have interest in moving back. Newsome hasn’t ruled it out, but also said they could jump forward.

3.       Ranking the Defensive Backs

There is a clump of defensive backs projected at the back of the first round and lots of opinions on how they should be ranked. For a team looking for a cornerback in the draft, it will be interesting see how it all shakes out, or perhaps how the Ravens slot them.

Florida’s Joe Haden has long been seen as the best corner in the draft, but his stock has waned since a sub-par showing at the Combine. Now some forecasters, such as ESPN’s Todd McShay, believe Alabama cornerback Kareem Jackson is right on Haden’s heels. Toss Boise State’s Kyle Wilson, Rutgers’ Devin McCourty and possibly Virginia’s Chris Cook in there and it could be a run at the end of the first round like DeCosta has predicted.

Southern California safety Taylor Mays is also another interesting prospect to watch as he is a physical specimen that has had major questions about his instincts and cover abilities. McShay called him the most overrated prospect in the draft, but a team could bite.

4.       Where Dez Bryant Goes

Oklahoma State wide receiver Bryant is obviously physically-gifted and had the college production before being suspended for nearly the entire 2009 season. But his stock has been more turbulent than the skies above Iceland recently.

Some general managers are going to fall in love with his potential while teams like the Jaguars will remove him from their draft board due to character concerns. It will be interesting to see who takes the gamble and if Bryant could fall all the way to the Ravens at No. 25.

5.       Tim Tebow and the Quarterbacks

There’s little chance Sam Bradford will escape the first four picks. Notre Dame signal-caller Jimmy Clausen is expected to go in the first round, but analysts are torn on where.

Then it’s up in the air where the next tier of quarterbacks falls. Watch for Florida’s golden boy Tim Tebow and even Texas’ Colt McCoy, who has picked up some steam late in the draft process. The more signal-callers taken in the first round, especially before No. 25, the better for Baltimore because top talent at other positions will fall.

Possible Ravens trade-back partners
Here are some potential partners for the Ravens to trade back into the early part of the second round:

Kansas City Chiefs (fourth in second round, 36th overall): If the Chiefs go for safety Eric Berry in the first round, they'll still need an offensive tackle. Kansas City would want to jump up if there is a run on tackles and it fears a targeted tackle won't be there early in the second round.

Cleveland (sixth in second round, 38th overall): Sure, you wouldn't want to help out a division team (can't call them a rival after beating them by a combined score of 50-3). But Browns president Mike Holmgren, who never drafted a quarterback in the first two rounds in Green Bay or Seattle, might have a sense of urgency at age 61. Holmgren recently compared Colt McCoy to Steve Young and Joe Montana, so Cleveland could be looking to trade back into the first round to get him.

Oakland (seventh in second round, 39th overall): Really, who knows what Raiders owner Al Davis is thinking? If an offensive tackle slides or Jimmy Clausen is still there at No. 25, Oakland could be giving the Ravens a call. New offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who was the quarterbacks coach with the Ravens, might also be interested in seeing what it might tackle to bring left tackle Jared Gaither to his offense.

Buffalo (ninth in second round, 41th overall): The Bills probably won't take a quarterback with the ninth overall pick, so they are a strong candidate to move back into the first round to get one. Like most new coaches, Chan Gailey wants to place his stamp on the team, and the best way to do that is with a new, young quarterback. This is the team that could pull the trigger early for Tim Tebow.

Beat writer Clarence Hill is told that the Cowboys would require more than a fourth-round pick in return for Marcus Spears.

Direi che se le "cifre" sono queste il mio ragionamento sullo spenderci il nostro sesto giro per prenderlo cade del tutto.. per quanto la richiesta mi sembri esagerata e lavorandoci la si potrebbe far scendere.

Baltimore traded this selection to Denver for a second-round selection it acquired from Miami (43rd overall), a third-round selection it acquired from Philadelphia (70th overall), and a fourth-round selection (114th overall).

Prima giornata andata e in termini di giocatori siamo rimasti a guardare.. certo, Draft Board alla mano rimanendo alla 25 ci si poteva portare a casa uno a scelta tra Wilson, Odrick e McCourty, oltre a poter prendere pure Dez Bryant con un piccolo upgrade. Evidentemente però nessuno è stato ritenuto cosi decisivo per agire in questa direzione, ma sopratutto mi sembra chiaro che siamo convinti al 100% che da questo Draft si possano portare a casa elemento di grande valore anche fuori dal primo giro. Alternativamente abbiamo sbagliato strategia.


Per comprendere meglio il tutto vi riporto la storia:

• He[Ozzie] talked to the three teams with multiple picks in the second round (Denver, New England and Tampa Bay) two weeks ago. On Wednesday, he had a "serious conversation" with the Broncos and then received their first offer Thursday morning.

• Newsome then waited during the draft to call back Denver and asked the Broncos if they could improve on their offer. And they did. "We sat there and the offer got better," Newsome said. "I guess they had their mind set on getting their quarterback."
"As it stands right now, that offer was so good that if Dez Bryant doesn't get picked and makes it to us, we probably would have still made the trade," Newsome said. "We had a chance to move up to that spot to get Dez Bryant and we decided against it."

• After the trade with Denver, the Ravens talked to the Indianapolis Colts (31st overall) and New Orleans Saints (32nd) to move back into the first round. It is believed that the Ravens also spoke with Minnesota (30th).
"We did make some calls, but all three of those teams chose to pick," Newsome said.

• On Friday, it will be the Ravens' turn to improve with three picks (two in the second round and one in the third). But Newsome said the Ravens have already had one call from a team wanting to move up to their first pick in the second round.


Come ho detto prima è palese ed evidentemente che crediamo di poter portare giocatori di talento in squadra in qualunque giro, il fatto però di aver tentato poi di chiamare Vikings, Colts e Saints per una trade mi fa pensare che forse non era poi cosi che doveva andare a finire la cosa.. probabile che si volesse scendere soltanto di un 4-5 posizioni per piazzare la scelta. Mah, misteri del Draft.. oggi tre scelte, vediamo come le faremo fruttare.. di nomi interessanti ce ne sono ancora.

Dico la mia sulla nottata....

Io non sono tanto deluso per la mancata chiamata di Bryant, quanto per il non aver preso chi er disponibile quando è toccato a noi scecgliere. Di talento ce n'era eccome. Penso a Dan Williams, a Kyle Wilson, anche allo stesso Odrick, che era il nome più gettonato dai Mock. Capisco che Bryant sia il migliore ricevitore disponibile sulla piazza e che se cade così in basso, forse prenderlo diventa un dovere; però i Need hanno sempre la priorità a mio avviso e una volta che l'hai perso, se proprio volevi prenderlo, sistema i buchi che devono essere sistemati e quindi nell'ordine CB, DL/DE.
Invece si è scelto di fare Trade Down, evidentemente si voleva prendere Bryant a tal punto. Il mio viso ha nuovamente preso colore quando ho letto gli estremi della trade, che ci consegna 3 giri uno di seguito all'altro e ci dà la possibilità di scegliere al terzo giro, dove invece dovevamo rimanere a secco.

Voglio dire: ammesso che vuoi prendere Bryant fin dall'inizio. Che il primo giro l'hai incentrato solo su di lui. Te lo soffiano davanti ad una scelta dalla tua; capisco che cominci a piangere come una fighetta, ma hai il dovere di asciugarti le lacrime dopo poco e andare avanti. Io avrei sistemare i Need con quella scelta. Ma le critiche o gli apprezzamenti arriveranno soltanto a Draft ultimato, ho ancora fiducia visto che peschiamo quasi sempre bene anche nei girì più alti.
