Per domenica....c'è un mio amico che fa' gli anni, mi sembra tifi per i 49ers  e comunque cerco almeno di convincerlo per domenica.

Dal blog Maiocco, domande e risposte per un tifoso che cerca di dare un senso a questo inizio di stagione:

Q: Whose idea was it to run the ball into the middle of the line three times in a row when the 49ers had the ball on the 25-yard line with 5:42 remaining with the Rams leading 16-14?

A: Afterward, I asked coach Mike Nolan why the team did not even try to get a touchdown. Why would they go with a two-TE formation with David Baas as the second tight end? Nolan answered, "Well, we were trying to get some yards with it. But I did instruct Jim (Hostler) that we are in field-goal position right now so let's just continue with the run."

Q: Does Nolan have any regrets about such a conservative approach when there was so much time remaining in the game?

A: Nolan said, "If I had to do it again, I probably would have done something on the third-down play because we were already in field-goal position at that time - maybe take a shot. But I am glad that we did what we did because we won the game."

Q: How much did David Baas play?

A: He played one first-half series in place of Justin Smiley at right guard. Then, he played in some short-yardage situations at tight end. Baas then played six crucial plays in succession when the 49ers needed to get first downs. He lined up on the one side on one play, forcing the 49ers to burn a timeout. He was on the field because Billy Bajema was inactive for the game because of an ankle injury.

Q: What was the worst coaching decision of the game?

A: That's a tough call, but I give the edge to Scott Linehan's decision to have Marc Bulger spike the ball with 1:15 remaining in the game with the Rams at the 49ers' 45. At that stage, time was not the enemy of the Rams. The Rams needed every down and every yard they could get at that point. It was really stupid to give up a down. In essence, that decision gave the Rams just two downs to get a first down. Then, they had to settle for a 56-yard FG attempt that fell just short.

Q: Why was that the worst coaching decision of the game?

A: Because it was the worst decision made by the losing coach.

Q: How did Vernon Davis react after the game?

A: He was not pleased. He said he should be the primary receiver on most of the pass plays, and who can blame him for saying that? He also said that he felt he was open all the time. There seems to be an agreement that the 49ers must find a way to get the ball in his hands early and often.

Q: Did Ashley Lelie play?

A: Yes. I saw him get on the field for two snaps. Taylor Jacobs was again the No. 3 receiver. He did not catch a pass. Only two wide receivers have caught passes for the 49ers this season. Jacobs got the ball on a double-reverse, and that netted minus-8 yards.

Q: Did Kwame Harris play?

A: No. So much for showcasing his talents. Harris and Trent Dilfer were the only 49ers players who did not step foot on the field. League sources say the Giants made an inquiry a couple weeks ago, but they weren't offering much for his services. My best guess is that a team would have to offer the 49ers a fifth-round pick to acquire Harris.

Q: Was Mike Nolan wearing a suit?

A: No. He wore a tie under his Reebok-issued coaching jacket. After the game, he took off the sports gear and put on his blazer. The league and Reebok have prohibited him from wearing the blazer on the sideline during 49ers road games.

Q: How is Frank Gore doing?

A: He's holding up about as well as one would expect. Sunday was difficult for him because he would always speak with his mother via phone after he arrives at the stadium. These next couple days are going to be difficult. He left after the game to go to Miami for his mother's wake and funeral. He will return to Santa Clara on Wednesday. It's questionable whether he'll be back in time for practice Wednesday, which is the first day of preparation for the Steelers.

Q: Are the 49ers going to be undefeated a week from now?

A: They have no chance if their offense plays anything like it did the first two games of the season.

Q: Refresh my memory, what's the 49ers' record?

A: They are 2-0 for the first time since 1998. They lead the NFC West by one full game.

Infortunio per Manny Lawson nell'allenamento di oggi; speriamo non sia nulla di grave.

Ho avuto il (dis)piacere di ammirarlo domenica scorsa. Anche a me ha fatto un'impressione mostruosa: playmaker nel vero senso del termine, giocatore a tutto campo, capacità unica di andare a coprire il buco e di farsi trovare dove c'è bisogno di lui. Il telecronista lo paragonava ad Urlacher, se è già questo giocatore dopo due partite tra i pro direi che in previsione non andiamo troppo lontano...

Quello che fa piu' impressione è l'adattamento immediato alla 3-4 e la capacità di essere "all around" anche in uno schema in cui parte da una posizione più decentrata.

Un placcaggio su SJ, preso dopo che partiva dalla posizione opposta del campo, e fatto ribaltando praticamente un toro come SJ è stato da goduria pura!
Per il resto, tornando con calma alla partita di domenica, rivista, o meglio vista, nei giorni scorsi, qualche piccola considerazione: molto bene la linea difensiva, con Sopoaga che sembra finalmente stia facendo il passo avanti che gli si chiedeva e che domenica molto spesso trovavi dietro la linea di scrimmage appena partiva l'azione, abbiamo blitzato anche con 7 giocatori contemporaneamente e comunque abbiamo messo sempre pressione su Bulger, questo naturalmente ci ha lasciato un po' scoperti dietro e quando la linea dei Rams riusciva a dare quel secondo in più a Bulger, o lui riusciva a evitare la pressione, non era difficile trovare l'uomo libero o comunque in grado di ricevere. Alla fine della ferie comunque Clements è riuscito a fare la giocata forse decisiva, di puro cuore e tecnica: guardate come chiude il pugno e aspetta il momento giusto.
Alterni gli ST, errori (il muff di Williams con Hudson che recupera e riperde la palla, Nedney che calcia fuori il kick-off dopo il FG del vantaggio) e buone giocate (buoni ritorni di Hicks e il fumble recuperato).
Per quando riguarda l'attacco il problema principale è che non riusciamo ancora a trovare continuità: tra Gore che sembra abbia ancora un po' di ruggine dopo l'infortunio al TC (e comunque domenica bisogna solo ringraziarlo per aver giocato in quella situazione psicologica), alcuni drop di troppo, un Smith poco costante e delle chiamate forse troppo conservative non stiamo riuscendo a far vedere il meglio, anche se quando c'è da fare la giocata importante ci siamo sempre.
Smith, quando ha tempo fa' buone letture e i suoi palloni in profondità sono puliti e precisi, se non ha molto tempo o deve decidere in fretta sembra ancora un po' troppo esitante, non so' se perché non è veloce nelle letture o perché vuole evitare di rischiare. Purtroppo stiamo vedendo qualche drop di troppo dei ricevitori che non lo stanno certo aiutando, poi eseguiamo male gli screen e Gore non riesce a ricevere neanche con la colla sui guanti.
Argomento Davis: ancora non è coinvolto come vorrebbe e come è auspicabile, ma non è che stiamo lanciando 35 volte a partita. l'importante è che stia calmo e tranquillo.
La linea.....non dominante, non riesce sempre a imporre la propria forza, ma almeno abbiamo quasi annullato le penalità.
Domenica importante esame contro gli Steelers, specie per l'attacco che avrà di fronte una difesa molto aggressiva, importanti saranno gli screen e le slant (quindi la velocità di letture del pupo), mentre se la difesa rimane questa.....abbiamo tutte le carte in regola per contenere le corse e forzare turnovers.

In genere è una strategia rischiosa contro di noi proprio per la capacità di lettura che ha Bulger anche sotto pressione (domenica ha fatto un paio di magie alla Favre degne di nota). Ma con la OL decimata dagli infortuni e i continui cambi di posizione (Barron a sx ecc, è uscita una stat durante la partita: Bulger ha avuto di fronte a sé negli ultimi 3 anni, mi pare, più di 20 OL diverse...impressionante), entravate da qualsiasi parte. Bulger è stato colpito un'infinità di volte, con i problemi alla spalla che si ritrova, non arriva a metà stagione...
