A questo punto la soluzione interna per il nuovo OC era scontata: unica perplessita' il fatto che il ragazzo non ha alcuna esperienza in tal senso, nemmeno al college.

Per Bryant, la possibilita' del taglio era palese dopo l'arresto: non sembra prorpio che abbia cambiato registro. Direi che e' una scommessa persa da Nolan

Strengths: Think Randy Moss, both on and, unfortunately, off the field. Antonio Bryant's big, strong and fast -- easily the most dynamic Panther since Tony Dorsett. He was an All-American last year, as well as the Biletnikoff Award winner, given each year to the nation's top receiver (he and Moss are the only two sophomores to ever win the award).

Willing to do the small things to help his team win (like block and run decoy routes), Bryant, at 20 years of age, is just about as complete a wide receiver as humanly possible, and likely to get better.

Bryant has soft hands and a big frame (which he knows how to use to his advantage), and caught 69 balls last year while being double-covered far more often than not. He has a knack for making the impossible look easy and has natural receiving skills. If this was just about talent, he'd be a can't miss, top of the board prospect, but...

Areas of concern: ...his head is a major question mark. Already this spring, Bryant's been suspended twice by coach Walt Harris, the final time indefinitely. He's missed mandatory winter conditioning sessions, instigated several fights with teammates and coaches and last January, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when he became verbally abusive toward a campus officer trying to give him a parking ticket.

He also has admitted that football, right now, is a bit too easy for him, and he showed signs of lacking concentration last year, dropping several easy catches. Remember Haywood Jeffires -- how he always somehow caught passes three feet over his head in the middle of tight double coverage but couldn't handle the ones right between the numbers? Bryant has a bit of that in him.

Is he sponge-worthy?: 2001 will be an important year for Antonio Bryant. He claims to have matured since his April suspension, and at 20, probably deserves the benefit of the doubt. But he'll need a quiet year off the field almost as much as he'll need a loud one on the field in order to restore some of the luster he lost with his tumultuous off-season.

No one questions his talent, but the line to question him begins here and wraps around the building. Single file, please. If he grows up, the Texans will likely be interested, especially if they can trade down and/or acquire a Brunell-esque quarterback prior to draft day. Bryant is, in short, a game-changer, a guy a defense has to account for on every single play.

Pensavo che avrebbe avuto una seconda possibilità ma evidentemente i contrasti con il coaching staff e forse anche con qualche compagno sono troppo profondi; il suo eventuale taglio ci costerebbe comunque poco in termini economici (circa un milione di dead money) ma aprirebbe un bel buco in quello che è il peggior raparto dell'attacco e forse di tutta la squadra, vediamo come si cercherà di provvedere.

Mi chiedo se per Bryant questa è la fine della carriera NFL, ha già cambiato tre team in pochi anni tra i pro e dovunque ha creato problemi, chissà se qualche squadra gli offrirà ancora un'opportunità. Peccato perché il talento sicuramente non gli manca ma con quell'attitudine non si va da nessuna parte.

BTW, io consiglierei ai niners non assegnare più la maglia numero 81....

The 49ers released receiver Antonio Bryant on Thursday, less than a week after coach Mike Nolan met with him face-to-face in Indianapolis to discuss his situation.

A source familiar with Bryant's contract said the signing bonus he received from the 49ers last year as a free agent was tied to how many games Bryant was active. His signing bonus was reported in league documents as $4 million, but he will count only $800,000 against this year cap. Therefore, the 49ers will save about $1.5 million in cap room with the decision to part ways with Bryant.

Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Adam Caplan of Scout.com says the 49ers are very interested in Bills cornerback Nate Clements, and that the Niners are prepared to make him an offer soon after 12:01 a.m EST Friday.

The Browns are believed to be poised to make a quick run at Clements, too.

According to ESPN, once midnight hit on the east coast, the 49ers were one of the more aggressive teams at setting up Friday visits for free agents. They have confirmed that the 49ers are expecting a visit from linebacker Adalius Thomas, which was expected.

The 49ers, along with the Browns and Titans, have also been in communication with cornerback Nate Clements.

Se facessero quella trade up sarei veramente molto stupito. Nel frattempo McCloughan ha dichiarato che questa offseason sarà, come già si sapeva, incentrata sulla difesa e che si attende nel caos peggiore di avere 5 nuovi starter per la prossima stagione, nel caso migliore 7.

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, free agent Nate Clements has been signed or will soon sign with the San Francisco 49ers. The report comes from Thomas Sorrell.

Adalius è fanastico ma Clements è un top cb ed ha 27 anni. dovessi scegliere tra i due andrei sull'ex buckeye. Certo arrivassero tutti e due

per quanto riguarda la trade up per CJ dico subito!!! io proverei a dare la 1 di quest'anno e dell'anno prossimo però mettendoci un 3 di quest'anno e non la 2 dell'anno scorso. comunque dove avete sentito sto rumour su CJ?

Prima giornata di free agency abbastanza intensa per i niners; fonti abbastanza sicure parlano delle visita al quartier generale di Santa Clara non solo di Nate Clements ma anche di Micheal Lewis, safety ex Eagles. Se tutto va come deve andare nelle prossime ore potrebbero esserci le firme.

Nessuna notizia invece per quello che concerne Adalius Thomas; anche lui doveva andare alle facility dei niners ma sembra che andrà prima in visita ai Patriots che gli offrirebbero meno soldi ma con la possibilità di puntare subuto al Super Bowl e di entrare in quella che è considerata la migliore organizzazione dell'NFL. Dovesse sfumare Thomas i Niners potrebbero puntare su Porter o su Banta-Cain.
