Bailey had two on with one out in the eighth and Ramirez at the plate, 108 pitches already expended. Baker came to the mound, but Bailey talked his way into staying and he retired Ramirez on a line drive and coaxed a pop up from Blake on his 115th and final pitch.

“I told Dusty I started it and I want to finish it,” said Bailey.

Baker said he didn’t care what Bailey said, he was out there to look in his eyes, “And I wasn’t sure what I was going to do until I looked into his eyes. I wanted to see the look on his face and the look in his eyes and I saw what I wanted to see.

“If I didn’t see what I liked, I would have gone to the bullpen,”

Buon Dio aiutaci tu. E' andato, lo ha guardato negli occhi... Un momento chiave della partita, un pitcher che ha messo due uomini in base con un pitch count alto, contro l'hitter più forte degli avversari. E lui lo guarda negli occhi e decide.

Il bello è che ha sbagliato. Manny ha battuto una LINEA. Bailey non lo ha "eliminato" su una linea. Le linee non eliminano nessuno... se un hitter batte una linea, ha vinto lui la battaglia col pitcher. Uno strikeout? Vittoria del pitcher. Una groundball? Vittoria del pitcher. Una flyball corta? Ancora per il pitcher. Ma una base su ball o una linea............. se poi la difesa fa l'out, hai avuto fortuna, ma se Dusty non capisce questo...... Magari è convinto che siccome Bailey avesse gli "occhi giusti", la linea sia stata trasformata in out. Magari con gli occhi sbagliati, la linea sarebbe caduta.

Mi viene da vomitare.

C'è da dire che la squadra dopo i primi infortuni non è riuscita a riprendersi.

.218 BABIP. Aumentate le BB, diminuiti i K, difesa ben sopra media.

L'anno prossimo ci potrebbe essere un breakout fenomenale. Ripeto, .218 BABIP, e nonostante ciò, .772 OPS. L'anno prossimo non mi sorprenderebbe una stagione alla JD Drew (.850-.900 OPS), con meno OBP e più SLG, ma sulla stessa combinazione OPS+difesa.

Come ha fatto Billy Butler, a 23 anni. Lo stesso per Jay Bruce.

Tough crowd. Keep in mind that Rolen was beaned in the head, suffered a concussion and had to spend time on the disabled list.

"I've traded a lot of promising pitchers that didn't turn out to promising pitchers when they got to the big leagues. We don't know, but we felt it was more important to have leadership. Però poi si lamentano che non hanno soldi e non hanno pitching. Zach Stewart con 6 anni a costo controllato è andato, e devono dare tantissimi soldi a Rolen, che sarà infortunato o toglierà il posto a Juan Francisco. Ah, però è un leader.

Io la vedo come una pura e semplice Jocketty move....pur di tenere TLR aveva dovuto mollarlo a St. Louis, alla prima occasione se l'è ripreso facendo una grande cavolata visto che i Reds non ne avevano proprio bisogno.
