The Mets are still hoping to get slugging first baseman Carlos Delgado back before the July 31 trade deadline, according to a report in Newsday.

Delgado had hip surgery on May 19, and the newspaper reported he was moving easily and showed no obvious signs of favoring the hip while walking in the Citi Field clubhouse.

At the moment, however, Delgado is limited to riding a stationary bike and exercises designed to build strength around the hip.

"The good thing is not feeling any pinching situation, which is what I was feeling before," Delgado said. "Having said that, I haven't really tested it baseball-wise. But I'm very positive that everything is going to be great."
