Giants GM Jerry Reese says negotiations about a long-term contract for coach Tom Coughlin will "begin soon."
"Who knows? Tom might not want to come back," Reese joked. "He might want to ride off into the sunset." Owner John Mara set Reese straight: "I can't see (Coughlin) playing shuffleboard." Mara virtually guaranteed Coughlin a new deal earlier this winter, before the Giants upset the unbeaten Patriots. (New York Daily News)

A league source told the Washington Times that Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo doesn't feel ready to be a head coach yet.
Spagnuolo's remarkable and successful Super Bowl game plan undoubtedly upped his head coaching stock in Redskins owner Dan Snyder's eyes. Spags will interview with Snyder on Tuesday, but it seems unlikely that he'll want the job with defensive coordinator Greg Blache already in place. (Washington Times)
