Stock falling: Don't expect Balmer to ever step on the field with the 49ers again after failing to appear at practice Wednesday morning. He has fallen far behind the team's top four defensive ends: Justin Smith, Isaac Sopoaga, Ray McDonald and Demetric Evans. Dan Brown of the San Jose Mercury News tracked down Balmer at his home. Balmer did not disclose the nature of his personal issues, and placed blame on the 49ers for fueling the uncertainty. "People are making a big deal about of nothing," Balmer said. "I feel like the 49ers could do a better job of saying that, but it's not my place to say."
Personnel report: With a possible roster spot opening on the defensive line, the 49ers have a tryout scheduled today with defensive end Will Tukuafu (6-3, 272). The Seahawks released him this offseason.

Altra strana mossa a roster: l'infortunato McKillop non è stato messo direttamente in IR ma nella lista dei waivers/injured, in pratica nei prossimi giorni qualcuno lo potrà anche firmare, altrimenti dopo finirà nella IR come è successo con l'altro LB infortunato Burnett (che però era un undrafted).

Gli waiver durano 24 ore. Se nessuno lo reclama puo' essere ripreso e messo in IR liberando un posto a roster. Senza passare dagli waiver invece avrebbe contato come giocatore a roster fino all'ultimo taglio prima dell'inizio della RS.
Penso che la mossa sia stata fatta per liberare un posto a roster, magari sapendo che non c'erano squadre interessate a prenderlo anceh a causa dell'entita' dell'infortunio.

Si, il motivo era chiaro, però a me sembra comunque una mossa un pò azzardata, specie quando il tuo ex GM, colui che lo ha scelto, è ora in una rivale divisionale.....

In an exclusive interview with The Mercury News, Balmer’s said he simply needs more time to attend to a personal matter. He said he had no problem with Singletary and planned on speaking to him later Wednesday.

Intanto nuova aggiunta a roster che sembra fare capire come andrà a finire la situazione Balmer:
The 49ers signed rookie defensive end Will Tukuafu of Oregon to a two-year contract. The NFL granted the 49ers a roster exemption because of Kentwan Balmer's unexcused absence.

Aggiungo un'altra cosa: Ziegler come tutti i training camp sta facendo il fenomeno ma sembra questa volta ancora più del solito e si stia garantendo quasi certamente un posto a roster. Sembra inoltre abbia superato Brandon Jones e Jason Hill nella depth chart.
Smith e Baas continuano ad avere sempre grossi problemi negli snap mentre Boone sembra si stia ritagliando il posto di primo backup nella posizione di T (sia RT che LT). Iupati invece sta andando alla grande.

Ziegler si e' fatto 3 anni in PS. Da quest'anno e' o dentro o fuori... vedremo.
Approfitto del tema "ricevitori" per segnalare che un giornalista ha fatto un aritcolo con 100 "guarantees".
Una e' questa:
"66. Brandon Jones will have the second-most receiving yards for the 49ers."
Considerando che Jones probabilmente non fara' neanche il roster, le altre "guarantees" perdono un po' di credibilita'

qualcuno mi sa dire cosa significa AWOL, termine (acronimo?) con cui è indicata la situazione di Balmer?
edit: trovato. se qualcun altro non lo sapesse, Absent Without Official Leave
questa cosa degli snap tra Baas e Smith mi fa venire i sudori freddi
meno male che c'è ancora un mese di allenamento
