Dolly Parton - Jolene

Image

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green

Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me, Jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, Jolene

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, up straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sound that night
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass
The painful scream that I heard last.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm rollin' through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling just a little while."
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I would miss
But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

Image

"Decided to sneak off away
From your stomach and try your pulse
Encaptured what seemed all unknowing
And candid but they suspected it was false

She’s playful, the boring would warn you
Be careful of her brigade
In order to tame this relentless marauder
Move away from the parade
And she was walking on the tables in the glasshouse
And verily bedraggled in the wind
Subtle in her method of seduction
Twenty little tragedies begin

And she would throw a feather bower in the road
If she thought that it would set the scene
Unfittingly dipped into your companions
Enlightened them to make you see

And there’s affection to rent
The age of the understatement
Before the attraction ferments
Kiss me properly and pull me apart
Affection to rent
The age of the understatement
But before this attraction ferments
Kiss me properly and pull me apart

And my fingers scratch at my hair
Before my mind can get too reckless
The idea of seeing you here
Is enough to make the sweat go cold"

Giorgio Gaber - Le elezioni

Generalmente mi ricordo
una domenica di sole
una giornata molto bella
un'aria già primaverile

in cui ti senti più pulito
anche la strada è più pulita
senza schiamazzi e senza suoni

lunga, sottile, marroncina,
perfettamente temperata

e vado verso la cabina
volutamente disinvolto
per non tradire le emozioni

e faccio un segno sul mio segno
come son giuste le elezioni.

È proprio vero che fa bene
un po' di partecipazione
con cura piego le due schede
e guardo ancora la matita
così perfetta è temperata...

io quasi quasi me la porto via.
Democrazia!

Flux of Pink Indians - Progress ("Strive to Survive Causing the Least Suffering Possible", 1983)

425,350

i don't want your progress
it tries to kill
me

you don't want these trees
you only want towns and cities
you don't want me
'cause I oppose them
you want me to leave
all i want to do is breathe
you want to devastate
homes that aren't yours

I don't want your progress
it tries to kill
me

I don't want your progress
it pretends that it wants me
it doesn't want me for myself
it only wants my money
this is just a wood to you
but this is my home
it may not resemble your house
so you're right and I'm wrong

I don't want your progress
it tries to kill
me
me
you
we

I don't want your progress
it tries to kill
me
