Partita splendida, viziata da 2 fuoricampo da 2. Il primo di LaPorta (con Gamel in base) ed il secondo di Gillespie (con LaPorta in base). Peccato, perchè per il resto è stato dominante. Smokies starting pitcher Alex Maestri (0-1) was also very impressive in his Smokies Park debut, but paid dearly for a couple of mistakes against a potent Stars offense. In the top of the fourth, Maestri allowed two straight hits to begin the inning, the second one being a two-run blast by Matt LaPorta, his 20th of the season

Maestri fermo per infortunio col braccio dolorante.

Speaking of Minor Leaguers, thanks to David S. for doing the research on Italian-born players. Alex Maestri, born in Cesena, Italy, is currently pitching at Double-A Tennessee, but if he makes the big leagues, he wouldn't be the first.
There have been at least six, including Julio Bonetti of Genoa, Italy, who reached the Major Leagues for the St. Louis Browns in 1937, and pitched 1 1/3 innings for the Cubs in 1940. In that game, he gave up three runs on three hits and four walks, and that was it.
Among the other Italian-born big leaguers: Rugger Ardizoia (1947), Reno Bertoia (1953-62), Hank Biasatti (1949), Marino Pieretti (1945-50) and Lou Polli (1932-44). Pieretti pitched for the White Sox in 1948 to '49. Maestri began the year at Class A Daytona, and was 5-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 15 games (14 starts). He's 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA in two starts for Tennessee.

Si, è una cosa ampiamente risaputa, ma non sono italiani veri. Sono figli di emigranti, che solo per caso sono nati in Italia, ed infatti hanno nomi italo-americani e sono di formazione totalmente americana.Pablets wrote:

Mike Piazza meno di loro ha solo il fatto di essere nato su suolo americano, ma ha gli stessi identici legami con l'Italia altrimenti.
La lista di giocatori nati in Italia è qui, e qui parla degli altri minor leaguers prodotti negli ultimi anni. Maestri è comunque il più avanzato italiano "vero", formato in Italia. Nessuno era mai arrivato in AA.

Maestri dovrebbe rientrare il 24, contro i Montgomery Biscuits.
