L'acquisto di Furcal a quelle cifre è veramente un pessimo affare:

- a cosa serve un 31enne reduce da una stagione da 36 partite giocate?
- perchè spostare Kelly Johnson come LF invece di prendere un esterno di ruolo via free-agency anche solo per 1/2 stagioni? (Ogni riferimento a Burrell che sarebbe probabilmente costato cifre simili è puramente voluto)
- perchè, se proprio c'erano le possibilità economiche, non concentrare i propri sforzi per coprire i ruoli più scoperti della squadra (esterni, rotazione e bullpen) anzichè puntare sugli interni che rappresentano, forse, l'unica nota positiva del team?

Se qualcuno riesce a rispondere anche solo ad una di queste domande può farmelo sapere? Magari mi sono perso qualcosa io...

Nei forum dei Braves tutti sembrano entusiasti della firma e già si ipotizzano varie trades che coinvolgono Johnson/Escobar tipo:

Io realisticamente penso che la rotazione faccia schifo (Jurrjens secondo me non ripeterà il 2008) e oltre a Vazquez non c'è niente di sicuro; il bullpen l'anno scorso ha fatto fatica e quest'anno dovrebbe ripetersi a meno che Mike Gonzales e Rafael Soriano non disputino tutta la stagione su ottimi livelli. Il lineup manca di potenza, non ci sono esterni veri e Chipper l'anno prossimo avrà 37 anni...

Perchè la gente scrive cazzate del genere?

E soprattutto, perchè nessuno mi ha avvisato quando Morton è diventato un "prospetto"? Molti lo trattano come tale, ma parliamo di uno con 79 buoni IP a 24 anni in AAA e circa 600 IP di schifo a tutti i livelli in carriera.

Comunque quella voce è oltre ogni limite di ridicolo.

Dopo che anche l'arrivo di Furcal è sfumato, mi viene da pensare che durante questa off-season tutti i tentativi e le offerte fatte avessero solo lo scopo di disturbare le altre squadre, oppure i Braves non attraggono proprio nessuno... Più semplicemente magari Pablets deve smetterla con i Braves - Waiting for... nel titolo del topic. :lol2:

Seriamente sono felice che l'aquisto di Furcal non sia andato in porto, non per il valore giocatore in questione, ma perchè vengono risparmiati soldi da investire in posizioni più "bisognose" e possibilmente negli anni a venire, quando si spera che i migliori prospetti saranno sbocciati.

Let's face the facts this a team that has not been to the playoffs in three years not the team that went 14 in a row. We are moving downward however we have great prospects that are 1 to 3 years away. So it looks like we will have to wait a little longer for the kids to come up here.

On Thursday, Tellem said he hopes to negotiate for other players with Atlanta in the future. According to the Journal-Constitution, his firm currently represents Braves reliever Peter Moylan.

"We hope that once emotions have subsided, the Braves will act in a manner consistent with not only their obligations under the collective bargaining agreement and the National Labor Relations Act, but also the best interests of the franchise," Tellem said. "In short, we would not want this incident to color their better judgment."

Schuerholz è così, a queste cose ci tiene parecchio e nel suo libro l'ha sottolineato. Trattare con persone di fiducia per lui è fondamentale e tiene molto anche al lato sentimentale, per quanto sia possibile, del baseball

A quanto so ed ho capito comunque, si è trattato di un caso più unico che raro, non tanto per Schuerholz ma proprio per l'MLB. Mentre ero in Arizona, abbiamo firmato un term sheet col ricevitore coreano che era lì, e per tutti (inclusi giocatore, agente e tutti gli executives) è stato come avere firmato il contratto. Infatti loro stessi (le controparti coreane) hanno annunciato pubblicamente ed ufficialmente la firma a giornali coreani prima che il contratto vero e proprio venisse firmato.
Insomma, è stato un colpo basso e vergognoso, altro che Boras...

Ah sì, puoi veramente giurarci che è stato un colpo bassissimo. Più che altro la reazione di Schuerholz è ancora più aspra proprio perchè lui per queste cose ci diventa matto
