E, lui, come potrebbe preferire stare a Phila piuttosto che a Boston, oggi come oggi?

The Panthers have released DeShaun Foster, their starting running back from last season.

The move was made Thursday and clears about $4.75 million in salary-cap space. And it continues a busy offseason as the Panthers overhaul their roster following a second straight season out of the playoffs.

Foster has never rushed for more than 897 yards in six seasons plagued by fumbles and injuries.

During the last two seasons, Foster split time with former first-round pick DeAngelo Williams. Williams is expected to enter next season as the team's top back.

Free agent Asante Samuel is rumored to be in search of a ten-year, $100 million contract, including $30 million up front.
Apparently he doesn't just want more than Nate Clements (seven years, $64 million), he wants much more. The way Samuel and his agent are speaking, it sounds like he doesn't have a preference of where to sign. Some GMs are pegging him as a system DB, but Samuel will likely go to the highest bidder.

E lui in una 3-4 che ci fa? Bah.

Some eyebrows have been raised around the league about the announcement last week that Miami defensive end Jason Taylor will compete in the reality show, "Dancing with the Stars." Retired players Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith competed in the past, but Taylor will be the first active NFL player to participate.

The Dolphins are considering trading Taylor, and some teams may not be thrilled to have a high-priced player compete in the show. Injury possibilities aside, some believe Taylor will be distracted by the show, which tapes between March and May. While the show will occur during the offseason, every NFL team starts its offseason conditioning program in early April.

Novità?

Each year all the shakers and movers in the world of NFL football descend upon Indianapolis to attend the Combine. While the primary focus is upon the timing and testing of more than 300 potential NFL players, it is also a good time to convene meetings relating to other NFL business. With that in mind, NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw and his staff held their annual meeting with a group of 17 agents and more than ten active and retired players to allow them opportunity to share issues and ideas that have surfaced over the last season and to plan for the upcoming season.

At this year's meeting in Indianapolis, the primary focus of the roundtable discussion was aimed at the status of the current CBA. Upshaw told those in attendance that over the last year he had gotten consistent signals from NFL management that they were not happy with the landmark CBA extension that had been agreed to in March 2006 and that the NFL would likely exercise its right to shorten the length of the CBA by giving notice this fall.

The current CBA is set to expire after the 2012 league year, with the 2011 season being the last capped year. However, either the NFL or the NFLPA many terminate the final two capped years of the CBA (2010 and 2011) by giving notice of their intent to do so on or before November 8, 2008. If this right is exercised by the NFL, as Upshaw anticipates, the last capped year would be 2009. The 2010 league year would then be uncapped, meaning that there would be no limit on player costs and unrestricted free agency for players with expiring contracts would increase to six (6) years.

Upshaw and his staff then discussed the various issues that could arise at the end of the CBA and possible negotiation strategies relating to those issues. He shared some stories about prior CBA negotiations and urged the agents and player leadership to assist him in preparing the active player membership for the upcoming negotiations.

Among other subjects covered during the meeting was the so-called "junior recruiting rule" that had been passed by the NFLPA Board of Player Representatives last March which prohibits agents from talking to underclassmen, and the status of pending agent disciplinary cases.

NFLPA President Troy Vincent, who chaired the meeting, concluded by asking the agents present for their continued support of the NFLPA. He remarked that, "we as players recognize the valuable service that agents perform in enhancing NFL players' careers and we thank you for that."

The agents invited to attend this roundtable discussion vary from year to year. The seventeen (17) agents present at this meeting were Tony Agnone, Adisa Bakari, Andrew "Buddy" Baker, Steve Baker, Jason Chayut, Jerrold Colton, Tom Condon, James "Bus" Cook, Todd France, Kristen Kuliga, Vann McElroy, Kennard McGuire, Drew Rosenhaus, Joel Segal, Rick Smith, Bruce Tollner and Angelo Wright.
