segnalo brevemente un passaggio dell'articolo che mi sembra interessante:

Eh, ho capito...se Peavy vuole i Braves per una scelta di cuore massimo rispetto per lui, ce ne fossero così...se invece vuole andare in un team vincente ciao ciao...i Braves il prossimo anno non saranno competitivi, almeno non quanto i Cubs...boh, vedremo, l'ultima parola alla fine spetta a lui.

qui articolo riguardo al "silenzio" di manny sull'offerta presentata dai LAD. il povero Colletti dice "
I need to hear their reaction to the offer." ma dall'ineffabile Scott e dal suo miglior cliente nessun segnale è arrivato...oramai è chiaro che fin dall'inizio aspettavano la fine della FA restriction e iniziare a valutare le offerte da altre franchigie. e se i Dodgers avessero accettato il six-years deal? cosa si sarebbe inventato Scott?

According to Scott Miller of CBSSports.com, the Padres are expected to request Jake Peavy waive his no-trade clause to go to the Braves. The deal being discussed: Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes, and Blaine Boyer or one of two minor league southpaws. Miller says the Padres are leaning toward Morton and Boyer.
The Braves want an answer by Friday, so they can figure out their free agent needs. Peavy is said to prefer the Cubs, but we'll see what happens if the Padres approach him to waive the no-trade for Atlanta. It hasn't happened yet.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees will "aggressively extend a proposal" to C.C. Sabathia tomorrow. He believes the Yankees will go to "a financial region that no other franchise would even consider" to lure the ace. Sherman's guess is an initial bid in the six-year, $150MM range (and that may not be the final offer).
If the Yankees are successful in signing Sabathia, they hope to add A.J. Burnett or Derek Lowe next.

Quest'anno riusciremo ad evitare la discussione: "Con questa crisi finanziaria e i bambini del terzo mondo che muoiono di fame è immorale pagare tanto una persona per giocare a baseball" è una discussione sterile perchè avessi scoperto un po' prima questo sport ne avrei fatti ancor di più. Da tifoso Braves (per le squadre NL), continuo a sperare che alla fine l'affare Peavy non vada in porto; nella stessa division Phillies e Mets sono nel breve termine troppo superiori come organico per poter sperare di accedere anche solo alla post-season. Francamente mi chiedo come sia possibile privarsi di prospetti (che magari non arriveranno neanche in MLB) e di Escobar (che nel 2008 ha fatto comunque bene in una posizione difficile) per aggiungere un ace alla rotazione, che resta deficitaria, che al massimo può significare qualche vittoria in più. Personalmente vedrei molto meglio uno scambio per portare Cain in Georgia, anche se difficilmente i Giants si priveranno del loro n. 2. Lasciamo ai Cubs, così Pablets coronerà il suo sogno di andare a Wrigley. :D

No però hai ragione, è un affare con poco senso per i Braves...con un Peavy in più (e un Escobar in meno...) Atlanta sarà competitiva con Mets e Phillies? Io dico di no...

suppongo che se arrivasse peavy in cambio per escobar (ed altra roba) i braves faranno sicuramente un forte tentativo per firmare furcal. di soldi liberi ne hanno quest'anno.

Non nego che la squadra gioverebbe dall'arrivo di Peavy, ma le possibilità di playoff rimangono pari a zero. Magari poi vengono firmati Furcal, Manny, C.C., Sheets e ritorna Teixeira...
Personalmente non voglio un'altra stagione come quella appena finita, passata sul limbo del .500 senza reali speranze di PS. Meglio finire ultimi per 2-3 anni nella division e poi essere realmente competitivi nelle prossime stagioni che arrivare terzi o quarti come i Reds o gli Astros.
