Josh Reddick va in AAA per giocare ogni giorno.

Oggi Josh Beckett lancerà un bullpen a Fenway per vedere come vanno le cose con la schiena.
Il 28 maggio quando aveva provato a fare un bullpen aveva avuto fastidi alla schiena.

I Sox stanno esplorando possibili trade per Mike Lowell.

I Sox dovrebbero promuovere da Pawtucket l'esterno 27enne Daniel Nava. Nava guida i PawSox in madia battuta (.294), on-base (.364), slugging (.492), OPS (.856), HR (8) e RBI (38). E' stato firmato dopo la stagione 2007, prelevato dalla Lega indipendente Golden Baseball League. In tre stagioni nelle leghe minori è andato .337/.429/.522, OPS .951.

Nava dopo il liceo non fu reclutato da nessun college. Era troppo piccolo e magro. Tentò di fare l'walk on a Santa Clara ma gli suggerirono di diventare coach. A 19 anni Nava, cresciuto di 13 cm in due anni, trovò posto in un Junior College, a San Mateo. Dove battè .430 e fu JC All-American. E così si gudagnò una borsa di studio a Santa Clara. Guidò la West Coast Conference in batting (.395) e on-base (.494). Eppure non fu scelto al draft MLB.

E così, quando i Chico Outlaws (nome appropriato per uno perennemente "fuori" come lui) ebbero delle defezioni, lo chiamarono. E lui ne divenne il clean-up, battendo .371/.425/.625. Fu l'MVP della lega e lo notarono e firmarono i Sox.

E lo spedirono a Lancaster, la lega famosa per gli attacchi pazzi.
Dopo la classe A (.341/.424/.523 nella California League, Nava confermò i numeri una lega normale, battendo .339/.434/.495 a Salem. E così arrivò la promozione in AA (.364/.479/.568 a Portland).

Insomma ovunque sia andato ha battuto bene. Ed è pure un buon difensore. Basta che resti sano!

Daisuke Matsuzaka si è infortunato durante il riscaldamento. Si è stirato l'avambraccio. Messo in DL, parte Atchison contro i Phillies ed è stato chiamato su Dustin Richardson. Bullpen game. Meno male che ieri Lackey sia andato profondo e che dopodomani ci sia un day off.

Altro duro colpo. Non è davvero possibile questa stagione.

La squadra è molto più profonda di allora però. E soprattutto i callups stanno battendo bene, che si chiamino McDonald o Nava.
Nel 2006 in panchina non c'erano Varitek, Hermida, Hall e Lowell. Theo ha imparato la lezione da allora.
Detto questo, quando gli infortuni sono tanti e negli stessi ruoli (3 OF e 2 SP contemporaneamente) puoi avere la profondità che vuoi, ma sei ugualmente nei guai.

A Beckett servirà ancora qualche giorno per riprendersi, ma pare che sia sulla strada giusta. Per quanto riguarda la rotazione, si può far finta che il day off non ci sia e mantenere tutti su riposo regolare, saltando la partenza di Matsuzaka, per una settimana. Wakefield rimarrebbe in rotazione anche successivamente. Speriamo che Josh torni in fretta. Intanto anche stasera l'ha risolta l'attacco (avanti di 8 a 3 inning dalla fine mi permetto questo azzardo), il migliore in MLB ad oggi. L'AL East ha un ritmo davvero furioso.

Grande Daniel Nava. Grande JD Drew. Adoro Drew, che fuoriclasse.

Well, Victor Martinez can top that.

The Red Sox catcher can claim to having not only been present for both of the historic first-pitch home runs, but he has also has proof that he predicted both would take place just prior to their completion.
Saturday, while sitting up in the Red Sox’ clubhouse during the second inning of what would be a 10-2 win over the Phillies, Martinez offered his prediction of Nava’s blast.
“He was standing right next to me when he said, ‘First pitch, bomb!’” said Red Sox DH David Ortiz. “I came up to get some batting gloves because of the rain and Vic was here. He said, ‘Watch this, first pitch grand salami’ There you go.”

But before you surmise that it was just a lucky guess, understand Martinez has a history with such things. That was thanks to Kouzmanoff’s first-pitch blast sat a member of the Cleveland Indians back on Sept. 2, 2006.
When he first got there I said, ‘If I was you I would swing at the first pitch.’ He said, ‘You think I should do that?’ I said, ‘Why not? You play in Double A and Triple A, but you haven’t played against the Rangers so those they probably didn’t have a good scouting report on you from the minor leagues. So if I was you i would swing at the first pitch.’ So guess what? First at-bat, bases loaded, off of Kevin Millwood — first-pitch grand slam.

“When he walked to the plate I called a grand slam.”

When asked if he had duplicated his effort this time around, Martinez resounded, “When you see David ask him.”

Hence, the Ortiz confirmation, and another legend to build on to Nava’s historic day.
“Unbelievable,” Ortiz said.

Ragazzi, controllavo lo schedule dell'interleague e mi sembra che sia un pó sbilanciato ovvero che noi giochiamo contro squadre piú toste rispetto a TB e mi sembra sia piú o meno in linea con quello dei NYY. che ne dite?

Youkilis è ancora day-to-day ed oggi non gioca, per avere 2 giorni di riposo consecutivi, e 3 degli ultimi 4. Lowell in prima base.

Mah, comunque Hamels ha dominato. Straordinario Wakefield, tranne che per un inning, che decide la partita. Vinta un'altra serie, adesso coi DBacks si dovrebbe continuare sulla stessa strada. Gli Yankees stanno per raggiungere i Rays in cima alla AL East, ma i Red Sox rimangono a 4 partite dalla vetta.

Ma esattamente a cosa serve avere una panchina, se si permette a Darnell McDonald di andare a battere contro un RHP?
