Green Bay - The comeback of Nick Barnett will apparently take a big step forward at tonight's practice.
The Packers' presumed starter at the "Buck" insider linebacker spot said via his Twitter account this afternoon that he has been cleared for at least some contact drills.
"Am getting to go today!!! Yes finally," Barnett wrote. "So am studying right now to make sure there's no mental errors."
Barnett had surgery in mid November to repair a torn ACL. The Packers flunked him on his pre-training camp physical although Barnett thought he was healthy enough to practice.
Barnett was able to participate in non-contact drills last week.
If Barnett's demeanor carries over tonight, offensive players should be careful crossing the middle. Barnett took advantage of every chance he had last week to rough players up, even in the non-contact drills. Obviously he is looking forward to laying his first lick in nine months.
