NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The local group that put down a $10 million nonrefundable deposit to buy the Nashville Predators for $193 million signed a deal Friday that includes the purchase agreement with current owner Craig Leipold.

The deal had to be finalized by Friday before the local group's exclusive negotiating rights expired. That would have allowed Leipold to talk with other bidders.

"There's still a ways to go. We still need the financing, still need the city and the lease, still need league approval," said Herb Fritch, CEO of HealthSpring Inc. and a member of the local group. "But in a lot of respects it's amazing how far we've come."

The local group, which consists of eight partners, had hoped to reach this point two weeks ago. But they want to rework some parts of the team's arena lease.

They are offering to eliminate any chance of the team leaving Nashville in exchange for $3 million to ease past losses and a guarantee of averaging 14,000 in paid attendance each season to ensure the team collects its revenue-sharing from the league.

Those arena issues are being deferred until a new mayor is elected in a run-off Sept. 11.

The delay means the NHL Board of Governors will not be able to consider the purchase at a meeting Sept. 18 because it won't be on the agenda. They will need up to a month to review the sale but could vote by fax.

The local group had been hoping to conclude the purchase before the season opener Oct. 4. Seven of the partners are from Nashville with the only outsider William "Boots" Del Biaggio III, who will be selling his minority share in the San Jose Sharks as this deal closes.

I Senators, dunque, sono interessati a Foppa (se e quando tornerà in NHL).

La notizia circolava anche gia' qualche tempo fa...in pratica ogni squadra dove c'e' uno svedese (Alfredsson-Ottawa, Naslund-Vancouver...)

Non e' una decisione facile per Niedermayer.. a 34 anni ha ancora 2-3 anni di carriera ad alti livelli davanti a lui, il problema sono le motivazioni. Niedermayer e' l'unico giocatore ad aver vinto tutto quello che c'era da vincere a livello di squadra e cio' include Memorial Cup, World Junior Championship, IIHF World Championship, medaglia d'oro olimpica, World Championship, Canada Cup e ovviamente svariate Stanley Cup. A livello personale idem con patate con Norris e Conn Smythe. Un giocatore di hockey non conosce off-season e senza motivazioni e' una vita dura. E' un professionista e sta soltanto prendendo il suo tempo per decidere se seguire quello che gli dice il cuore, ovvero continuare a fare quello che sa fare meglio che e' giocare a hockey, o la testa, ovvero abbandonare da vincente mentre e' ancora uno dei migliori difensori mai visti nel gioco dell'hockey.

Stavo guardando che Atlanta ha preso in D Joel Kwiatkowski il quale ha giocato 41 partite a Florida l'anno scorso... 10 punti( 5g e 5a)!

Non male, l'avrà consigliato il russo...

Non sto mica scherzando, con 10 punti si colloca quinto nella classifica difensori di Florida e fare 10 punti nei Panthers giocando in 3 linea è molto!

Forse il miglior acquisto dei Thrashers in rapporto qualità/prezzo. :D

si ilya, ma Kwiatowski in difesa è una chiavica, l'anno scorso gli sono stati dati minuti nel power play e anche all'ala per assenze varie e siccome l'attacco è il suo fondamentale migliore (o il meno peggio, vedi tu) allora ha avuto discrete cifre :hehe:
