Manny e Dodgers si riparleranno oggi, sembra che il problema nell'offerta rifiutata fosse a riguardo le modalità di pagamento:

According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, deferred payments were the key issue in Manny Ramirez's rejection of the Dodgers' most recent offer. As Hernandez explains,

Under the terms of the contract that Ramirez was offered by the Dodgers on Wednesday, he would've received $10 million this year. And by exercising the option for the second year, he would've received $10 million in 2010.

Ramirez, who turns 37 in May, would've been paid the remaining $25 million over the next three years without any added interest. He would've received $10 million in 2011, $10 million in 2012 and $5 million in 2013 .

Scott Boras made a counter offer using the same basic language and numbers of the club's two-year, $45MM offer, but without the deferred payments. Boras told the Dodgers that they have until noon to strike a contract.

ma è usuale proporre questi pagamenti dilazionati che continuano anche quando il giocatore non è più nella squadra?

Juan Cruz ai Royals per 2 anni. Altre 2 scelte ai DBacks, che ne hanno tante nei primi 2 giri (i Royals perdono solo il secondo giro).
Il contratto è da 6/2 garantito, ma con un'opzione per il terzo anno che potrebbe renderlo 9.5/3.

A source with knowledge of the situation has revealed that Manny Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, asked the Dodgers to increase their offer to $55 million.

After asking for the increase, the negotiations reportedly broke down.

Manny vicinissimo ai Dodgers. L'offerta è sempre quella... 25+20 con l'opt out, ma pare che i soldi non siano differiti stavolta.

Inoltre Pudge dovrebbe essere vicino ai Mets, che non si fidano di Castro.
