Sempre il pazzo che aggiorna il salary cap dei niners ha fatto un pò di luce sul contratto di Clements, in cui c'è pure una clausola particolare:

Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange explains that the eight-year, $80 million deal given by the 49ers to cornerback Nate Clements contains a phony final year, which automatically will be voided when a $10 million option bonus is paid to the player in 2008.

So either the option bonus won't be paid, and it'll be just a one-year deal -- or the option bonus will be paid, and the contract will be worth $64.02 million over seven years.

In pratica alla fine il contratto è molto più articolato di quanto sembra, e gli ultimi anni sono.....come dire.....rinegoziabili:

Holy Crap! The Steelers have signed restricted free agent punter Andy Lee to a six-year, $7.1 million offer sheet that includes $1.66 million to sign. The 49ers have seven days to match the offer. If not the Steelers will give San Francisco a sixth-round pick.

According to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat, Kwame Harris' name is also likely to come up in trade talks after free agency settles down and the draft nears. He states that the 49ers would probably take a fourth or fifth-round draft choice for Harris.

Comunque scambiarlo per un'altra scelta al draft di quest'anno mi sembra che non serva a molto... ne dovremmo avere una al primo e secondo giro, 2 al terzo, 3 o 4 al quarto e una al quinto e al sesto!

Mah, è un buon ricevitore ma è anche molto injury prone. Diciamo che una terza scelta per lui sarebbe anche sacrificabile, una seconda secondo me è eccessiva. Il punto è che le trade tra rivali divisionali non hanno molte possibilità di andare in porto ed in generale preferirei prenderlo al draft il WR che ci manca, ce ne sono diversi che possono fare al caso nostro.

D'accordo su tutto tranne che sull'ultima parte: prendiamolo pure al draft un WR, ma non potra' certo fare il #1 da subito. E' facile prendere bidoni al draft soprattutto nella posizione di WR (chi ha detto Stokes?); io preferirei andare su qualcosa di piu' sicuro con una trade viste le molte scelte che abbiamo. Anche FA andrebbe bene, ma a questo punto non e' che si possa ambire a molto visti i nomi disponibili e i soldi rimasti
