Interessante notizia riguardante il sistema difensivo dei Jaguars:

Following the season-ending loss of DE Reggie Hayward, the Jaguars will use a 3-4 defense with Atiyyah Ellison at defensive end.
John Henderson will be the other end and impressive rookie Terrance Knighton will be the full-time nose tackle. Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey are the outside linebackers. The Jags used a lot of this alignment in Week 1 against the Colts, consistently stuffing Joseph Addai and Donald Brown.

Minchia c' è chi ci mette anni, draft su draft dedicati al passaggio e questi taaac ci passano tra un quarto e l' altro di una partita. Comunque per quel che mi ricordo i due, soprattutto l' ex Gators Harvey, hanno delle qualità fisiche (in particolar modo la rapidità) che si addicono forse più ad un OLB da 3-4 che ad un DE da 4-3.

E soprattutto da DE stavano facendo abbastanza schifo. :D

Il nostro miglior drive l'abbiamo giocato contro il loro schieramento 3-4. Non sono mai riusciti a fermare un gioco.

Poi nel quarto quarto hanno fatto un pelo meglio, ma devo dire che erano dei giochi di corsa talmente dichiarati che 4-3 o 3-4 non cambiava assoultamente nulla. Boh...

Stavo leggendo un pezzo del numero di SI con la Preview alla stagione che mi ha lasciato di stucco. È l'articolo di Peter King, frutto di una chiaccherata fatta durante l'estate insieme a Palmer, Roethlisberger, Romo, Rodgers e Ryan. Alla domanda di King riguardante le critiche di qualcuno verso la troppa protezione che hanno i QB da parte della Lega e del regolamento il buon Carson Palmer risponde:

"The truth of the matter is, somebody is going to die in the NFL. It's going to happen. Guys are getting so big, so fast, so explosive. The game's so violent. I hope it's not anyone at this table, and I hope it doesn't happen, obviously.
Everyone talks about the good old days when guys were tough and quartebacks got crushed all the time, but back in the day there weren't defensive ends like Mario Williams - 6'7'', 300 pounds, 10 percent body fat, running a 4.7 40. The game is getting bigger, faster, stronger, and there needs to be more protection. If I weren't a quarteback, I would be mad about the rules. If I were a defensive back, I would be mad about the new rule, because it does take some of the ferociousness out of the game. But the rules need to be adjusted because [the violence] is getting a little out of control."

No, no. Ma non è un discorso totalmente campato per aria.

Diciamo che se ora si giocasse con le regole di un tempo, ci sarebbero parecchi rischi per l'incolumità dei giocatori. Che poi si possa eccedere nel senso opposto andando a snaturare lo spirito del gioco questo è un altro discorso.

Il mio era solo un gioco di parole. Il fatto che tu sia d'accordo con Carson (ed io con te) non vediamolo come "un problema" - questo intendevo.
