One of the least mentioned stories of the playoffs is the lame duck status of Thunder coach Scott Brooks. The assumption with that team is they’d tie him up after the season, like Dallas did with lame duck Rick Carlisle, and Brooks wouldn’t leave that talent. But new Portland GM Neil Olshey is a huge fan of Brooks’, and you wonder if the holdup in hiring a new coach in Portland is that he is waiting to see if Paul Allen’s money could sway Brooks NBA.com

Brooks via da OKC dopo una finale mi pare difficile...dovrebbero perderla tipo 0-4 con gravi mancanze del coach...e non succederà perchè sono troppo forti per non vincerne almeno due...

Parole di Batum all eurocamp di Treviso non proprio incoraggianti eh...a questo proposito e non solo riflettevo su una cosa...sign and trade Batum draftando Barnes o chi volete voi per non trovarsi in casa un giocatore scazzato della situazione e ottenere qualcosa di buono in cambio? Piano B che mi e venuto in mente...sali al draft e drafti Thomas Robinson e cedi a sto punto LMA sempre per averne in cambio di buoni come la vedete?

Gli hanno chiesto se crede che gli spot 2,3 e 4 siano sistemati con Matthews, Batum e Aldridge e quindi si debba cercare un playmaker e un centro al draft. Olshey ha risposto che cercheremo il Best player available, non necessariamente un 1 o un 5 perchè è importante in questo momento avere degli asset perchè si può ripetere la strategia Chris Paul, ovvero accumulare tanti asset e poi fare una trade per un big nei prossimi anni, a meno che le scelte si dimostrino delle star...

Ha detto che per ora non ha cercato nessun coach perchè prima di cercarlo devi sapere se le sue caratteristiche si abbinano a quelle del tuo roster, e siccome il nostro roster al momento non c'è è ancora presto per cercare...

Casey Holdahl of Blazers.com has posted a transcript of Portland Trail Blazers GM Neil Olshey's Monday night Courtside interview, in which he stressed the importance of building the team's talent pool.

I think that the point that this organization is at right now is an asset acquisition phase. We've got to rebuild our assets and at that point, either guys are going to make your team and contribute because they were drafted or you're going to be able to use those assets to generate a deal to bring players in from the outside from other organizations to rebuild the roster. But I think the roster is a work in progress at this point. I think we've got a lot of raw materials and we do have some building blocks with guys like Wes (Matthews) and Nic (Batum) and LaMarcus (Aldridge) and some young players who are yet to develop to their potential yet, and we're going to get in the gym and work with them. But, you know, I think everyone has to look at the draft as a player acquisition vehicle and the more assets you can acquire in this league, the more flexibility you have to build the roster and accelerate the growth to become more successful quicker. We were on one path with the Los Angeles Clippers a year ago, building through the draft, building with youth and when an opportunity came in to go after a franchise-level player, we had the assets to do it. So that's really what the draft is about. It's not about filling needs.

McIntyre: Blazers Have "Serious" Interest In Illinois C Meyers Leonard
Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead reports that the Portland Trail Blazers have "serious" interest in Meyers Leonard, who worked out in Portland a few weeks back.

But if you’re an NBA fan in Portland, Detroit or Milwaukee, you need to get familiar with Leonard real quick. Two sources tell me that Leonard is quickly becoming the third most coveted big man in the draft, and he zoomed past UNC’s Tyler Zeller and John Henson at the NBA draft combine last week.

One source says Leonard is getting serious consideration from Portland (picks 6 and 11), Detroit (8th pick, in dire need of a center) and Milwaukee (12th pick, also desperately in need of a center).

Comunque ci ho pensato bene e lo scambio con i Cavs non lo farei... Se accettano la 6 + qualcosa che non sia la 11 e quindi qualcuno tra Claver, Freeland, Smith, Babbitt o le due seconde scelte bene, altrimenti è meglio restare cosi..

Alla 6 ci arriva uno tra Robinson, Drummond, Barnes, Kidd-Gilchrist e Beal, e su questo siamo sicuri al 100%. Con la 11 c'è tanta tanta roba, la mia ipotesi sul fatto che questo draft sia diverso dagli altri a causa del lockout della stagione precedente è stata confermata da un'intervista di Sullinger alla Gazzetta dove sostanzialmente fa capire che era meglio non dichiararsi lo scorso anno, e quindi questo è un draft due in uno. Sullinger l'anno scorso avrebbe lottato per essere la prima scelta, adesso potremmo addirittura trovarlo alla 11, quindi si può capire quanto sia "pesante" la scelta.

Abbiamo moltissime combinazioni con la 6 e la 11, magari non troveremo un Chris Paul o un Carmelo Anthony ma di sicuro potremmo avere un quintetto con talento "diffuso", che non per forza di cose vuol dire perdente, ma allo stesso tempo ti permette di avere la possibilità di accumulare asset come ha detto Olshey. Magari un Leonard non vale un Howard, ma in particolari condizioni come quella di Chris Paul lo scorso anno può moltiplicarsi il valore di questi giovani, e messi in un "pacchetto" possono portarti alla superstar (ammesso che loro stessi non lo possano diventare).

Se salissimo lo faremmo per Drummond o Beal (e non è sicuro al 100% che questi due non possano arrivare alla 6) ma se restassimo con la nostra scelta mal che vada ci capita un Barnes, un Robinson o un Kidd-Gilchrist. Tutti questi 5 a noi andrebbero bene, contando che Batum può essere spostato da 2. A questo punto avendo scelto uno di questi ti regoli per la scelta numero 11.

Alla 11 puoi sceglierti un centro con Leonard o Zeller, puoi sceglierti un playmaker con Lillard o Marshall, puoi sceglierti una SG con Ross o Rivers....

con la 11 l'anno prossimo non avrai mai quella scelta, certo, puoi sculare un George, ma in questo draft puoi andare più sul sicuro...
