According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Indians are in serious discussions with free agent starter Carl Pavano.  Pavano will visit Cleveland soon and a deal could be wrapped up quickly.  We'll have to see if Pavano can come close to the $2MM guaranteed Mike Hampton received from the Astros.

SP in arrivo per gli indians....

Pavano ha firmato

Pavano and the Indians have agreed to a one-year Major League deal that was to be announced Tuesday afternoon. Pavano is guaranteed $1.5 million for '09, with the opportunity to make another $5.3 million in performance-based incentives. The deal does not include an option.

J.C. Romero sospeso per le prime 50 partite stagionali, dopo essere stato trovato positivo ad una sostanza illegale. La sospensione costerà inoltre a Romero più di 1 milione di dollari del suo stipendio, 'stichezzi.

NEW YORK -- Phillies reliever J.C. Romero was officially suspended Tuesday for the first 50 games of next season after testing positive for a banned substance.

A source familiar with the hearings told ESPN's T.J. Quinn that Romero tested positive after taking 6-oxo, a diet supplement created by Patrick Arnold, the chemist who designed THG. It is advertised as a legal testosterone-booster, and Romero argued that he was not aware there was anything in the supplement that could cause a positive test.

In May, Romero will be permitted to pitch in minor-league games during a 16-day rehab option immediately before his suspension is lifted.
