The Cleveland Cavaliers may have inched ahead of the Houston Rockets as a facilitator in a potential trade that would send Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said Wednesday.

One source familiar with the talks, though, cautioned to not make too much of that shift just yet.

The Cavaliers would land Lakers center Andrew Bynum for a package of draft picks and veteran power forward Anderson Varejao, according to one league source. The Lakers would receive Howard for Bynum. The source said this was merely the framework of a deal being discussed.

Cavaliers GM Chris Grant was in Las Vegas watching summer-league action but made an unplanned return to Cleveland, sources say, and is not expected to return. In the frenzy of anticipating if, when and where Howard might be dealt, such otherwise innocuous events have been enough to inspire massive speculation that a deal is near.

The Lakers have engaged both the Rockets and Cavaliers in their attempt to land Howard, sources say, because those two teams, a) have interest in acquiring Bynum, and, b) have the requisite salary-cap room to accept larger player salaries than they send out in a deal.

The complicating point for any deal to be completed, sources say, is whether Bynum and Howard agree to extensions with their next team. Sources close to Howard say that as of now, after mistakenly depriving himself of free agency this summer by opting into the final year of his deal with the Magic, he has no intention of doing so again.

ESPNLosAngeles.com reported the Lakers remain committed to pursuing Howard even without assurances he'd sign a long-term extension with the club.

The Rockets have had Howard at the top of their wish list for months and have made moves to pursue him, from collecting first-round picks in the draft to using the amnesty clause on Luis Scola.

Le estensioni dei centroni sarebbero un altro bel punto di domanda, l'unico che viene citato nell'articolo. Ad entrambi non converebbe firmare un'estensione ora.

Grant in realtà è tornato a Cleveland semplicemente per seguire l'operazione a cui oggi sarà sottoposto Irving. Ed oggi tra l'altro è anche giornata di riposo per i Cavs nella SL.
Se il rumors veramente si basa sulla sua inspiegabile(per loro) partenza da Vegas siamo messi proprio bene...

“The biggest thing with him is conditioning,” Scott said. “Once he gets in shape, all the other stuff will start to come.”
Scott believes Waiters needs to drop about 10 pounds as well as work on his defensive technique.
“He’s so used to zone [defense] the last couple of seasons that he stands around a lot on the defensive end,” Scott said. “We have to get him out of that. He has a ways to go in that department.”

Varejao fa trent'anni quest'anno ed ha un contratto triennale ( biennale garantito + il terzo team option ). Non e' un giocatore da cui ripartire, pero' in quell'articolo c'e' scritto [...] for a package of draft picks [...] e qui puo' essere la chiave di svolta. Quali scelte ? Sono in prospettiva da lottery ?

Beh io ti ricordo che l'anno scorso abbiamo mantenuto un'ottimo record con Lucas III e ripeto Lucas III, chiaro che avevamo Deng che reggeva la baracca insieme comunque a un discreto Boozer. La nostra forza è il sistema non il singolo e io vi dirò che preferisco quasi Bellinelli a Korver, almeno l'italiano qualcosa sa difendere. Nel ruolo di ala piccola abbiamo un buco ma spero proprio che qualcuno arrivi, non possiamo certo giocare con il solo Butler.

Ho già scritto un commento sulla situazione Waiters(spiegandola per bene) nel topic dei Cavs, quelle parole non sono assolutamente un sintomo di preoccupazione o qualcosa di simile.
Tra l'altro Scott è praticamente il fan n°1 di Dion.

Il contratto di Varejao non prevede una team option, ma è parzialmente garantito(per circa 4mil) in quell'ultima stagione
Smettetela di guardare Hoopshype per i salari.


Per il resto ho già speso troppi commenti per il solito rumor "fuffa".
