Auguri!

Aspettiamo la decisione di Linehan e famiglia
Niners coach Mike Singletary offered former Rams head coach Scott Linehan the position of offensive coordinator, it was learned this evening. Linehan met with Singletary and GM Scot McCloughan on Thursday. It was his second interview for the job.

Linehan, 45, wants to get back into coaching after getting fired four games into the season. He is expected to meet with his family before informing the 49ers of his decision. Linehan and his wife, Kristen, are the parents of three boys, ages 7, 11 and 13.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Julius Peppers wants out of Carolina.

The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end has decided he won't sign a long term deal with the Panthers and wants to play in a 3-4 defense. His agent, Carl Carey, said Saturday that Peppers hopes to play for another team to "reach his full potential."

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 draft, Peppers had a career-high 14 1/2 sacks this season and becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Panthers could place the franchise tag on Peppers that would force him to play for Carolina next season, but it would cost the team about $16.7 million in a one-year deal.

General manager Marty Hurney could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.

cosa stiamo aspettando?

Scott Linehan turned down the 49ers' offer today to become the team's offensive coordinator. It was a decision he described as "excruciating." "It was basically a really tough phone call to make. There is not a better guy in the business than Mike Singletary."
Linehan said his reasons for declining the job offer were "all personal." Linehan and his wife, Kristen, have three young boys, the oldest of whom will be entering high school. The family has never lived in the same place for more than three years since Linehan broke into coaching in 1989.
"When I was 25, these decisions were made and I'd grab my luggage and go," he said. "Now, at 45, with three kids, trying to figure out the right thing is different. It was a lot easier when I was 25 - it was not so complicated."

Peccato...

Nuovo candidato: Hue Jackson
Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson is a candidate for the 49ers' offensive coordinator position, it has been learned.

Jackson, 43, has been someone the 49ers have discussed from early in the process after coach Mike Singletary fired Mike Martz on Dec. 30. Jackson became available to pursue as a candidate for the job only after the Ravens lost Sunday in the AFC title game.

It is not known whether the 49ers will interview Jackson at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., but one league source suggested it is a strong possibility.

Jackson's name has already been linked in recent days to coordinator jobs with the Jets and Bengals.

Jackson's history
2008: QB coach, Ravens
2007: Offensive coordinator, Falcons
2004-06: WRs coach, Bengals
2003: Offensive coordinator, Redskins
2001-02: RBs coach, Redskins
1997-2000: Offensive coordinator, USC
1996: Offensive coordinator, Cal
1992-95: RBs coach, Arizona State
1990-91: RBs coachSpecial teams, Cal State Fullerton
1987-89: RBs coach, University of the Pacific
