purtroppo per problemi personali non riesco a seguire molto...o dovrei dire per fortuna?

mi sono pure perso il draft, dove si è fatto incetta di braccia.

speriamo che hart se lo prenda qualcuno, e ci dia qualcosa di decente in cambio.
anche nel caso si confermasse a buoni livelli di ops (cosa di cui dubito), diventerebbe troppo caro per il nostro budget e una mazza mancina da qualche parte dovremo infilarla (si accettano maliziosi suggerimenti).

Denver — In the Journal Sentinel's opening day baseball section, I wrote a story on the top pitching prospects in the Brewers' farm system, rating them in terms of possible impact in the major leagues. I ranked 2009 first-round draft pick Eric Arnett first.

Oops.

Arnett took a major step back last week when he was demoted to the rookie Arizona club after going 0-7 with a 6.87 earned run average in 12 starts for low Class A Wisconsin. Word was that he put too much pressure on himself to live up to being a first-round draft pick out of Indiana University. I'm not sure that explains this level of awfulness, especially for a pitcher drafted out of college.

Anyway, I thought it might be a good time to take a look at how the other nine pitchers on that list have fared thus far in 2010.

So, here's an update:

2. LHP Zach Braddock: I'm feeling a lot better about this one. After holding opponents scoreless in 10 of 11 outings at Class AAA Nashville, Braddock was promoted to help the Brewers' ailing bullpen. He has experienced a couple of rough outings but has shown enough (12 Ks in 8 1/3 innings) for manager Ken Macha to use him with games on the line. I'm still not sure how much impact the former starter will have as a reliever.

3. RHP Jake Odorizzi: Everybody who sees this kid raves about him. Only 20, the 2008 supplemental first-round pick out of high school is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 13 outings (10 starts) with Wisconsin. With 68 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings and a 1.21 WHIP (walks and hits per inning), Odorizzi still appears to be a special pitcher.

4. RHP Kyle Heckathorn: A supplemental first-rounder in 2009, Heckathorn has not had the same problems as Arnett in adjusting to pro ball. He is 4-4 with a 2.58 ERA in 12 games (eight starts) for Wisconsin, with only 10 walks in 59 1/3 innings and 48 strikeouts. The hard-throwing Heckathorn has a 1.06 WHIP.

5. RHP Mark Rogers: Brewers fans know Rogers' story. A first-round draft pick in 2004 - the year Yovani Gallardo was taken in the second round - Rogers was sidelined for two years while undergoing a pair of shoulder surgeries. Still erratic with his command at times, the 24-year-old Rogers is 3-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 12 starts at Class AA Huntsville, with 34 walks and 47 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings. Rogers was elevated to Nashville for one start, allowing one run in 4 1/3 innings.

6. RHP Cody Scarpetta: Only 21 and in his second full season of pro ball, Scarpetta has taken some lumps at high Class A Brevard County. Through 13 starts, he is 3-7 with a 4.76 ERA, with 62 hits and 38 walks in 58 2/3 innings, and 58 strikeouts. A big, hard thrower, Scarpetta needs to refine his secondary pitches. But, again, he is young and relatively raw.

7. RHP Wily Peralta: Much like Scarpetta, Peralta is a young (21), big, hard thrower who needs to continue to work and build innings. He missed the 2007 season after undergoing "Tommy John" reconstructive surgery and is still catching up. In 13 games (11 starts) at Brevard, Peralta is 5-3 with a 4.28 ERA, with a solid walk/strikeout ratio of 25 / 55 in 67 1/3 innings.

8. RHP Amaury Rivas: The Brewers' 2009 minor-league pitcher of the year is doing well at Huntsville though he was sidelined briefly with a minor arm issue. The control artist is 6-5 with a 2.96 ERA through 13 starts, with 71 hits and 25 walks allowed in 79 innings, and 59 strikeouts. Rivas keeps the ball down and has allowed only two homers.

9. RHP Jeremy Jeffress: This story is familiar to Brewers' fans, also. Jeffress recently returned from a 100-game suspension for testing positive a third time for marijuana use. One more offense and his career is done. Preferring to let Jeffress, 22, get his feet on the ground and maintain daily focus, the Brewers assigned him to relief duty at Wisconsin. In his first two outings, Jeffress allowed no hits in three innings while issuing one walk and striking out seven. His talent is way above this level but the Brewers are being cautious.

10. LHP Del Howell: A 15th-round draft pick in 2009, Howell didn't pitch much as a junior at Alabama because of illness. He has been brought along slowly at Wisconsin, going 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA in 13 games (five starts), with 25 walks and 29 strikeouts in 40 innings. Howell just needs to pitch and gain experience.

I Brewers hanno messo Jeremy Jeffress sul loro roster da 40 uomini.

Motivazione ufficiale di Melvin: "He has been a model citizen". Beh, anche io, ma nessuno mi mette sul roster da 40.

Motivazione vera? Sul roster da 40 non si viene testati per le "drugs of abuse", ma solo per le "performance-enhancing drugs". Jeffress è stato sospeso più volte per uso di marijuana, con pene sempre più severe. Il prossimo test positivo avrebbe portato alla sospensione a vita. I Brewers evidentemente sanno che stia ancora facendo uso di droghe ed invece di farlo smettere lo hanno "premiato" mettendolo sul roster da 40 e garantendogli impunità, perchè altrimenti non si spiega perchè uno che sta facendo il rilievo a 22 anni in A sia sul roster da 40 prima della fine della stagione, non essendo ancora eleggibile per il Rule 5 Draft. Piuttosto squallido. Jeffress mi fa abbastanza pena a sua volta. Peccato perchè come "braccio" è uno dei migliori 30 lanciatori delle minors.

hart potrà anche essere il prossimo Werth, ma l'anno prossimo verrebbe a costare fra gli 8 e i 10 in arbitrato e non ce lo possiamo certo permettere.

se mc gehee continua così, Gamel potrebbe essere il prox RF, e una mazza mancina a bilanciare il line up.

counsell, edmonds - che mercato fra i PH mancini e utility ne hanno - persino weeks, tutti via in cambio di qualcosa di pronto.

tenere fielder e vedere se nel 2011 (via i contratti di suckpan e hall, riske e hoffman) fare All In.

Intanto il vostro hotel pieno di fantasmi è finito sulla Gazzetta. Non si può parlare di baseball giocato, figuriamoci, meglio parlare del fantasma di Milwaukee :sbadat:

la scelta altissima utilizzata per prenderlo sembra, per ora, sprecata.
è ancora presto, ma questo è stato umiliato ovunque...

ancora una volta la valutazione dei prospetti lanciatori sembra un problema insormontabile per i brewers.

la faccenda sta diventando tragicamente comica, un pò come quando fantozzi consòla la figlia presa di mira dal consiglio dei dieci assenti nella festa di natale.

i partenti dei brewers fanno tenerezza, stiamo per riscrivere il libro dei record.

bob uecker sta meglio e potrebbe rientrare domani, qualche inning di qualità nel braccio ce l'ha ancora.

non solo corey hart non è stato ceduto ma, anzi, ha firmato un triennale da 9 milioni di media.

nella squadra più affamata di pitching si è provveduto a firmare un giocatore nel momento più alto (e forse irripetibile) della sua carriera.

magari li varrà pure (non stiamo parlando di cifre assurde) ma il mio pensiero è che per una altro anno non si avrà un altra mazza mancina da piazzare nel line up, sperando che il principe ci sia ancora...

l'esterno destro è l'unico ruolo che poteva essere coperto da un mancino essendo quasi tutti gli altri ruoli praticamente bloccati da giocatori giovani e ancora, relativamente, poco costosi:
