I OWN U 85!
FANTASTICO!

Today, I report to work wearing long pants. I've stashed away my green floppy hat for another summer. The bleachers on the 49ers' practice field have been removed. Training camp is over. The 49ers' regular-season mode has kicked off.
That also means that there will be a change in the way 49ers practices are covered. About half the teams in the NFL do not allow reporters to watch practices. The 49ers, thankfully, have not locked the gates. But with watching practices also comes some ground rules that the reporters are expected to follow.
For instance, we are not allowed to report about position changes and depth-chart changes, unless we are quoting a player or coach. Also, strategy tidbits are off-limits when it comes to our reporting. Could you imagine if we were allowed to write about the team spending several snaps working on a particular trick play?
Every team in the NFL has people who cruise the Internet looking for information that could assist them in game-planning for a particular opponent. So just remember that if you find out a certain something about your favorite team via the World Wide Web, the opposing team knows about it, too, and can plan to do something to counteract it.
Part of the reason I write this today is because this is the first day where I won't be able to give you the whole breakdown of which players are working with which groups in practice.
The 49ers hit the field this morning at 11:30 a.m. for a 90-minute practice. I could watch the first few minutes of practice and then rush back inside to let you know which right tackle is working with the first-team offense. Yes, I could do that. But, then, my credential for the season would probably be revoked and I'd have the carburetor removed from my car, thus stranding me in Santa Clara for days upon end.

Play without fear and you will be successful! See you at center ice.

News: Dallas K Martin Gramatica (hamstring) did not make the trip for Thursday's preseason game at Minnesota and is a candidate to be cut in favor of rookie Nick Folk.
A.J. Feeley hopes for good news from doctors after breaking his left hand during Thursday's preseason game against the Jets. Feeley, Donovan McNabb's backup, broke a bone in his left hand, but whether he will miss any action is uncertain. "He has to see a hand specialist," coach Andy Reid said. "He might be OK."
The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Terry Glenn, who has been recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery all preseason and will not see any exhibition action, is unsure if he will be ready to play come Week 1 vs. the Giants. He will try and practice on Saturday. "We'll see," Glenn said. "You've got to do training camp to get ready for a season. Unfortunately, I missed it. I've just got to get back and take everything slow and smooth. Hopefully, I can contribute and help our team win Sunday night (vs. the Giants)."
Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen left with a knee injury late in the second quarter of Thursday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. The rookie from Miami, Fla., was injured when he was tackled after catching a short pass from Kyle Orton.
Primo record battuto da JaMarcus!
NFL Network reports that Raiders rookie QB JaMarcus Russell's 34-day holdout from camp broke Orlando Pace's record for the longest holdout ever for a first-round pick. No other player from the common draft era has held out as long as Russell has.
NFL Network reported that Bucs WR Michael Clayton is on the trading block. Clayton fell out of the competition to start for the club in training camp this summer.
The Denver Broncos placed wide receiver Rod Smith, their career receptions and touchdowns leader, on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Tuesday. Smith is recovering from offseason hip surgery. He will not be able to come off the list until at least Week 7 vs. Pittsburgh, after the team's bye in Week 6.
WRs Troy Brown and Chad Jackson, as well as CB Eddie Jackson, have been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. They will not be eligible to return for the first six weeks of the regular season.

The team hasn't officially commented yet but several sources including ESPNews
are reporting that the Jaguars are going to replace QB Byron Leftwich.
The Jaguars have an announced press conference at 5:30 PM today.
Leftwich has had a strained relationship with coach Jack Del Rio for a while but
things had appeared to improve this summer.
David Garrard would be the guy that gets the start you'd have to think. So obviously,
he's a huge bump up from where he was and Leftwich free falls down the list.
Look for the team to make an official announcement soon.
After mulling retirement the entire offseason, defensive end Michael Strahan has decided to play for the Giants this season, the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports.
Shefter said Strahan will report to Giants camp on Monday.
