Wednesday: Off The Field

The injuries are starting to mount, but the Ravens would be pleased if they continue to be relatively minor.

The one concern is guard Ben Grubbs, the team's first-round pick. He sprained his knee during special teams drills Tuesday and did not practice today. He's considered day-to-day and might not play in the scrimmage against the Washington Redskins.

Any time lost is not good for Grubbs. There is a big learning curve for him because he's switching sides by playing right guard and he's adjusting to the physical play at this level. If he is sidelined for an extended period, it could hurt his chances of starting right away.

INJURY STATUS: Nose tackle Kelly Gregg didn't practice because of a thigh bruise. It's not considered serious.

Offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list but he was more active today. He did some fast walking across the field, but it still seemed like the toe was affecting his movement.

IT'S GOING AROUND: Backup tight end Quinn Sypniewski missed today's practice because he got the same stomach flu as rookie linebacker Prescott Burgess. I guess that's a sign of a close team.

TALES OF TWO MINUTES: In the first two-minute drill of training camp, quarterback Steve McNair showed solid recovery skills. A few plays after fumbling a shotgun snap, McNair threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Mason.

TIME TO TALK: Coach Brian Billick likes to talk, but he's been working overtime during training camp. In each of the first three morning practices, Billick has stopped practice, called his players into a circle and spoke about the tempo.

NO TIME TO DANCE: While signing autographs, a fan asked linebacker Ray Lewis to do his signature pre-game dance. Lewis smiled and just signed the fan's football instead.

Copio soltanto la situazione infortuni...

Injury Front

Jonathan Ogden (toe), Dan Cody (knee), Mike Smith (shoulder), Justin Green (knee) and Mike Kracalik (ankle) are all on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and did not practice.  Also not practicing, Kelly Gregg, who came out to the field wearing a sleeve on his right leg because of a deep thigh bruise.

There appears to be a flu bug going around the locker room.  First, it caught Prescott Burgess, who sat out both Tuesday practices.  Next, it caught Quinn Sypniewski, sidelined today.

“You’ve got to be careful,” was all Billick had to say.

Finally, first-round draft pick Ben Grubbs wore a knee brace on his right leg because of a slight sprain.  After practice, he listed himself as day-to-day and that he would be participating in individual drills on Thursday.

Una frase che vorrei sentire molto più spesso, magari a QB invertiti. E' successo ieri:

Parlando di cose serie, Barnes, che stava destando buone impressioni, subisce un infortunio, ma a differenza di Grubbs potrebbe giocare nello scrimmage contro i Redskins.

Rookie linebacker Antwan Barnes gave the Ravens a scare when he went down with an ankle injury during offensive and defensive linemen one-on-one drills.  Barnes was helped off the field and unable to put pressure on his right leg, but the injury isn’t deemed to be serious, and the fourth-round draft choice could be up and running again by the Ravens’ scrimmage against the Washington Redskins this weekend.

Sempre dal Sun, sono speranzose le parole che usa Jamison Hensley (giornalista) su Gaither.

The surprise of training camp so far has been Jared Gaither. A fifth-round supplemental pick out of the University of Maryland, Gaither has already supplanted Marshal Yanda as the starting left tackle.

Of course, Jonathan Ogden will be the starter for the season opener. But it's impressive that Gaither is running with the first team by his fourth day in a Ravens uniform. Remember he didn't have any minicamps because he wasn't drafted until July.

What stands out about Gaither is that he's big. Real big. He's listed at 6 feet 9, 350 pounds. I know Steve McNair will be happy knowing Gaither is protecting his blind side. I know I just feel safer knowing that he's at the team hotel.

Ho visto in diretta lo scrimmage contro i Redskins. Chiaramente siamo a livelli quasi di flag football, a parte qualche piccolo colpo proibito (scaramuccia tra Darling e Sean Taylor).

Vincono 10-7 i Ravens nell'11 Vs 11. Prima c'erano state 15 minuti di Special Team Session ed una parttita 7 contro 7, in poche parole senza le linee.

Qualche parola sullo scrimmage:

- Ho visto con piacere McNair cercare (e trovare) Demetrius Williams, discrete combinazioni tra i due.
- C'è stata la solita iniziativa di Boller, il signore che lancia sempre lungo (e purtroppo spesso sbaglia). Stavolta pesca Wilcox per una 39-yard catch. Sullo stesso drive TD di P.J. Daniels.
-Confermo che Gaither è una bestia.
-Tutto molto divertente con interviste a Reed che si mette a gridare e esultare , Scott, Suggs, McNair , Gaither....

Chiaramente la pre-season dirà molto di più e darà occasione ai rookie di mettersi in mostra.

Lo dico qui che ce ne l'occasione: come avete potuto notare da qualche mio post( ) ora c'è la possibilità di mettere direttamente sul forum un video presente su youtube. Dalla modalità di risposta completa c'è il bottone per aggiungere il filmato youtube, che in pratica aggiunge il testo [youtube =425,350 ] [ /youtube] (ho aggiunto gli spazi se non cercava di mettere il video). All'interno dei tag dovete mettere l'id del video su youtube: per es., per i link postati da matz si dovrebbe aggiungere rispettivamente fdP5G8v13NE e Bjy1X-dBtaQ.

Stasera prima gara stagionale contro Philadelphia.
Si comincia all'una (ora italiana).

Le curiosità maggiori saranno nel vedere Troy Smith e la OL (in particolare Jaret Gaither).

Intanto il sito dei Ravens mostra un appunto sul traffico di stasera...

Direi che un 29-3 nella prima uscita dell'anno, chiaramente pre-season, non sia affatto male.

Tenendo bene in mente che si tratta comunque di partite preliminari, diciamo che:

-Ha certamente impressionato di più Drew Olson (NFL by Europe a quanto pare serve...:Admirals:) che Troy Smith.

-E' stato lasciato molto spazio a Cory Ross, 11 portate per 65 yard; di fatto McGahee è stato usato pochissimo e solo nel primo quarto: 4 portate per 20 yard.

-Matt Stover è preciso sin da subito ed esoprdisce con un FG dalle 50 yard. In totale ne segnerà 5su5.

-La difesa mette su 5 Sack, e questo è un dato sicuramente confortante. Interessanti le prove di Ronnie Prude, e dell'ultima scelta di quest'anno, Prescott Burgess (5-1 con un Sack ieri sera). Forzati 3 fumble.

- La linea d'attacco ha giocato una dsicreta partita; l'interesse era maggiormente concentrato su Gaither. Segnalo una corsa di McGahee di 17 yard proprio dalla sua parte.

Domanda: dalle stats risulta che McGahee abbia calciato un extra point...se qualcuno l'ha vista: è vero o nfl.com ha preso una cantonata?? :gazza:
