Even if it’s only June, Laurence Maroney’s shoulder has to be a concern. Loved how he was out there, not participating in any meaningful drills, tossing balls awkwardly with his left arm on the sideline. Was that supposed to make anyone feel enthused about him carrying the load this season? Obviously, you want to be careful. We’ll see how far he’s progressed before panic sets in

Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver, who is eligible for the NFL's supplemental draft July 12, is scheduled to hold a workout for scouts today.

If Oliver slips to the third round in the supplemental draft, and the Patriots would consider selecting him at that point, here is an interesting nugget to consider:

The Patriots own the unconditional rights to the Raiders' 2008 third-round pick.

This is an important factor for a few reasons:

# 1) According to the NFL's player personnel department, a club may exercise a selection in the supplemental draft as long as it owns the unconditional rights to the pick in next April's draft. So since the Patriots own the unconditional rights to Oakland's third-round pick in next year's draft, they may exercise it in this year's supplemental draft if they so chose.

# 2) According to the NFL's official web site regarding last year's supplemental draft, the order of the supplemental draft is "determined by a weighted system that is divided into three groupings. First come the teams that had six or fewer wins last season, followed by non-playoff teams that had more than six wins, followed by the 12 playoff teams." Because the Raiders fall into the first category, that means the Patriots will have one of the first cracks at Oliver if he slips to the third round.

# 3) Teams making a selection in the supplemental draft give up that draft choice in the 2008 draft. Since the Patriots have two third-round draft choices, it allows them to potentially take a chance on Oliver without leaving a significant hole in their draft board.

At this time, Oliver is projected to be a third or fourth round selection. His stock could rise if he runs a solid 40-yard dash today.

The Patriots had dealt a 2007 third-round pick to the Raiders for a 2008 third-round pick and a 2007 seventh-round pick (LB Oscar Lua).
Nebraska offensive lineman Chris Patrick, who is eligible for July's supplemental draft, worked out for scouts on Monday. The Lincoln Journal Star has more on Patrick, who said that he's been speaking with Patriots officials.

“I’m kind of a sleeper guy, and New England’s kind of known for getting sleepers and late-round draft picks and having them do well and getting some success,” Patrick told the Journal Star. “Maybe they see something in me they like. I’d love to go there.”

peccato attendere ancora 2 anni  :truzzo:
