Da quello che si legge aveva avuto forti contrasti con il management riguardo alla gestione del suo infortunio e poi per un eventuale rinnovo contrattuale. Dopo l'infortunio i pretendenti si erano defilati e l'unica proposta seria era quella dei niners. Loro non volevano accettarla ma alla fine (le voci giravano da molto), poco prima del draft si sono visti costretti ad accettarla per non rimanere con un giocatore non voleva più stare là. Il recupero dall'infortunio sembra procedere bene ma un piccolo dubbio rimane sempre, d'altronde l'infortunio al ginocchio è sempre brutto (ed è per questo che le visite prima della conferma della trade sono state lunghe).

E' banale ma è la realtà della Nfl, una grande OL può far vincere squadre con attacchi insufficienti o mediocri. Ne abbiamo avuto tanti esempi, come i Redskins del 1991. Mi sembra che la linea concesse solo 11 sacks su Mark Rypien, che non era un grande qb e vinsero il Superbowl, l' anno dopo con Jim Lachey ed un altro titolare fuori per infortuni ritornarono alla normalità.
Nolan mi sembra uno che bada al sodo, uno che prima mette al sicuro le cose basilari e poi eventualmente si lascia andare ai voli pindarici. Se lo lasciano lavorare come si deve...

On Thursday, the 49ers signed LB Steve Dildine (Washington State) and G/T Sean Estrada (Penn). Both rookie free agents participated as tryout players in last weekend’s mini-camp.

Dildine (6-1, 235), saw action in 47 games with 28 starts at Washington State, where he tallied 203 tackles, two interceptions and one sack during his career. As a senior, he started all 12 games and collared 70 tackles with one interception. A year prior, Dildine started all 11 contests and totaled 68 tackles with one interception. He saw action in 11 games with four starts as a sophomore after playing in all 13 games with one start as a redshirt freshman.

Estrada (6-4, 295), started 20 of 23 career games at Penn, earning unanimous first-team All-Ivy as a senior team-captain after lining up at both left guard and left tackle. He led an offensive line in 2006 that allowed just 10 sacks (10th best in nation), while also helping a 1,000-yard rusher in Joe Sandberg. Estrada started 10 games as a junior after seeing action in six contests in 2004.

M.F.: Smith should be able to record career bests across the board next season with his new arsenal of offensive weapons, so he should be considered a nice low-end sleeper in all formats. I'm not sure he will become the sort of quarterback that owners can start on a week-in and week-out basis, however, but Smith will have a chance to become a more viable No. 2 fantasy quarterback and occasional starter versus lesser opponents.
