E' in fase di riabilitazione dopo l'operazione al ginocchio, verso luglio sarà pronto se non prima.

CLEVELAND (April 2, 2007) -- Safety Mike Adams signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, adding some depth to their secondary.

Adams had 67 tackles in 16 games with the San Francisco 49ers last season, including eight starts. He had 139 tackles and five interceptions in three seasons with the 49ers, who signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Delaware.

He likely will back up Sean Jones and Brodney Pool in the secondary, which was hurt by injuries last season.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn dressed in a light orange shirt for his visit to the Cleveland Browns. If he gets his wish, he'll soon have a matching orange helmet.

Quinn, who grew up in Dublin, Ohio, has said he wants to play for the Browns, the team he rooted for as a kid.

Chiamate un'esorcista:

As he continues to mull over the Cleveland Browns' possible first-round selection with the third overall pick in the 2007 draft, star-crossed general manager Phil Savage might want to consider tabbing an exorcist with the franchise's top pick.

The eerie curse that seems to haunt high-profile veteran free agents signed by the Browns, along with the team's first-round draft picks, continued Thursday when the club announced that guard Eric Steinbach has undergone an appendectomy that will force him to miss time in the offseason conditioning program.

The procedure was performed on Wednesday and Steinbach was released from the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday. But the appendectomy is the latest incident to befall a key unrestricted free agent signed by Cleveland in recent years.

Two-time Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley, projected as the anchor of the offensive line when he signed a landmark contract last spring, tore the patella tendon of his left knee in the first practice of 2006 training camp. Bentley missed the entire '06 season and, because of complications and the need for further surgery, will miss all of 2007 as well.

Cornerback Gary Baxter, who joined the Browns as their big unrestricted acquisition in '05, tore a pectoral muscle in his first season in Cleveland, and appeared in only five games. Last October, in a freak incident, Baxter ruptured the patella tendons in both knees and doctors originally feared he might never walk normally. Baxter is making solid progress now, but it is uncertain when he will return to the playing field.

Cleveland has also seen several former first-round choices -- including quarterback Tim Couch, defensive end Courtney Brown, tight end Kellen Winslow and wide receiver Braylon Edwards -- suffer debilitating injuries during their tenures with the team. In addition, several players have contracted severe staph infections the past two years and the team's complex has been inspected by authorities attempting to locate any source of contamination.

Steinbach, 26, signed a seven-year, $49.5 million contract with the Browns in early March, leaving the division rival Cincinnati Bengals as an unrestricted free agent. The deal was one of the most lucrative ever signed by an offensive guard.

Projected as the team's starting left guard, Steinbach will be limited for the next 3-6 weeks, according to Browns' team physician Dr. Anthony Miniaci. The team said in a statement that Steinbach, who missed just one game in four seasons with the Bengals, should be recovered in time for a June minicamp.

E' solamente appendicite. ESPN l'ha passata come la solita minestra, ma è tutto nella normalità.

Fra l'altro, visto che parlano di Baxter, perchè non hanno riportato le sue parole durante l'intervista di NFL Network della scorsa settimana? "solid progress"^?    Baxter sarà pronto per gli Steelers. 

Steinbach sarà al minicamp di giugno, come Kellen Winslow non salterà il 2007.

Incredibile draft dei Browns. Non sono ancora riuscito a metabolizzare bene la trade per arrivare a Quinn ma è stato davvero incredibile.

Con la n.3, Joe Thomas. Era un must, Savage doveva prendere lui e ce l'ha fatta. Quando pomeriggio ho letto su ESPN le news riguardanti le prime tre scelte e che i Browns avrebbero preso lui, non stavo più nella pelle. Tutti i mock, i rumors e quant'altro a farsi benedire: Quinn era solo una speculazione per proteggersi dai Cardinals, ma ero certo che Savage avrebbe preso Thomas se questi fosse stato disponibile. Scelta terrificante, franchise player, guiderà la nostra linea per i prossimi 10 anni, upgrade colossale al fianco di Steinbach con Shaffer che verrà dirottato a destra, dopo 8 anni i Browns hanno una linea. La migliore possibile. 12 anni dopo aver draftato Odgen per i Ravens, Savage ha servito il bis.

Poi succede l'impensabile. Quinn crolla. Passano i Vikings, i Phins, i Packers... tutti. A questo punto Savage capisce che deve cogliere l'attimo perchè un'occasione del genere non capiterà mai più: 1a scelta 2008 e 2a scelta 2006 ai Cowboys in cambio della scelta n.22. Preso Quinn.

Sinceramente, ammetto che al momento non avrei rinunciato alla nostra seconda scelta. Era troppo importante, avremmo potuto usarla per un cornerback e rinforzare le nostre secondarie che dipendono da ottimi giocatori ma con troppi punti di domanda riguardo le loro condizioni fisiche. Però pensandoci bene, Savage ha fatto la mossa giusta. Inutile aspettare un anno e cercare un franchise-quarterback di cui abbiamo un disperato bisogno nel prossimo draft, meglio prenderlo subito che ne abbiamo l'occasione. E che occasione! Certo, s'è preso un bel rischio lasciando la 1a scelta 2008 ma ne è valsa assolutamente la pena.

Quinn + Thomas, assurdo.

PS. Riporto quello che hanno scritto alcuni tifosi dei Browns. Mercoledì, durante la partita dei Cavs alla Q, questi stessi tifosi hanno incrociato Kellen Winslow in tribuna e scherzosamente o meno gli hanno chiesto chi sarà secondo lui la scelta dei Browns al draft. Risposta? "Joe Thomas"  :D Inarrivabile

Complimenti veramente. Fortunati che in tanti hanno passato su Brady ma bravi a fare la trade giusta quando vi siete resi conto che vi potevate portare a casa due tra i migliori giocatori di questo draft. Finalmente ora Cleveland tornerà a fare paura.

lieto fine per il "dramma" di Brady Quinn, che finisce proprio dove avrebbe voluto. Joe Thomas è potenzialmente un franchise tackle e forse la scelta più "sicura" dopo CJ.

la mia perplessità è sulla trade fatta per arrivare a Quinn... la prima scelta 2008 è un prezzo molto alto, considerando il fatto che difficilmente i Browns saranno subito competitivi...

Sicuramente un grande per voi, le migliori due prime scelte che potevate fare, fortunati nella caduta di Quinn, ma anche bravi ad imbastire la trade, forse troppo rischiosa, ma non si sa mai che riusciate a riprendervi un'altra prima scelte, come ha fatto anche SF. Buona scelta anche il CB Eric Wright, non uno dei primi della classe, ma sempre un buon giocatore!

Vero, ma ne valeva la pena. Savage non voleva Quinn alla 3, era ovvio. Il quarterback sarebbe andato l'anno prossimo quando con Cowher e Schottenheimer apriremo un nuovo ciclo. Non si può mai prevedere cosa ci riserverà il domani ma la priorità assoluta era la linea e poi il franchise-quarterback quando c'è più tempo e alle spalle un progetto tecnico duraturo.
Il problema è che quando Quinn era precipitato, i Browns dovevano prenderlo a tutti i costi: con 1 scelta hai preso 2 franchise-player. E al secondo giro, pure Wright.
Ci hanno guadagnato i Cowboys e ci abbiamo guadagnato noi.

spero per voi che possiate costruire qualcosa di importante. un passato glorioso troppo lontano, una raffica di eventi sfortunati (The Drive, The Fumble, lo spostamento a Baltimore, i problemi di Couch, gli infortuni di Winslow e Bentley...) e un debito con la sorte che prima o poi verrà ripagato.
