McCloughan said this week that contract negotiations with running back Frank Gore were "going good." Despite reports that the two sides are far apart, McCloughan said he is optimistic Gore would have a long-term deal in place by the start of the season.

"We want to show that we are willing to take care of our guys," he said.

Gore is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to make $435,000 in base salary. Calls to Gore's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, were not returned.

Non avevo capito. Comunque non penso si riferisse a quello (era più un commento per i tifosi, dato che era una news su un sito di tifosi che riportava una dichiarazione televisiva), anche perchè le trattative per il rinnovo sono partite da molto e comunque McCloughan si dice ottimista (nonostante le sparate dello squalo...).

Ma prima c'è da pensare al draft in cui come previsto avremo due scelte compensative una terzo giro (per Julian Peterson  ) l'altra al quarto (per Andre Carter). Questo il riassunto delle nostre scelte:

First round: 1 pick (No. 11 overall).

Second round: 1 pick (No. 42 overall).

Third round: 2 picks (No. 76 overall; and compensatory pick for Peterson, No. 97 overall.

Fourth round: 4 picks (one from the Redskins from the Brandon Lloyd trade, No. 104 overall; their own, No. 110 overall; one from the Jets from the Kevan Barlow trade, No. 124 overall; and one compensatory pick for Carter, No. 135 overall).

Fifth round: 1 pick (No. 147 overall).

Sixth round: 1 pick (No. 186 overall).

Seventh round: 0 picks (pick given up, along with Ken Dorsey, in trade for Trent Dilfer).

When the San Francisco 49ers selected tailback Frank Gore in the second round of the 2005 draft, the former University of Miami star proved to be one of the biggest steals in the last several seasons. On Tuesday evening, the 49ers opened up their coffers to Gore, the NFC rushing leader in 2006.

ESPN.com has learned that the 49ers reached agreement with Gore on a four-year contract extension through 2011, with the deal averaging just shy of $7 million in terms of so-called "new money."

Gore will receive an initial signing bonus of $6.5 million and total guarantees of nearly $14 million. The contract will pay Gore $13.862 million in its first two seasons and $18.212 million in the first three years. Because Gore had one season remaining on his original rookie contract, the four-year extension creates a five-year deal, and the total value over the course of the five seasons is $28.012 million.

Base salaries are $450,000 (for 2007), $2.5 million (2008), $2.5 million (2009), $2.85 million (2010) and $2.9 million (2011). The contract includes a $4.165 million option bonus and roster bonuses of $1.75 million (2009), $1.85 million (2010) and $2 million (2011). Gore's full base salary of $2.5 million in 2009 is guaranteed.

San Francisco officials acknowledged at the end of the 2006 season that, in keeping with their recent initiative to secure their nucleus players for the long-term, they hoped to sign Gore to an extension. Through negotiations with agent Drew Rosenhaus, this deal continues a string of big-money contracts for tailbacks that have been ongoing and were ratcheted up in recent days.

The deal is unusual in that it comes after Gore has logged only two seasons in the NFL and after he overcame severe knee and shoulder injuries to emerge as one of the league's premier runners.

Gore, 23, played as the backup to Kevan Barlow as a rookie in 2005, then won the starting job in training camp last summer. Starting in all 16 games, he carried 312 times for 1,695 yards and eight touchdowns. In two seasons, he has 2,303 yards and 11 scores on 439 carries, appearing in 30 games, with 17 starts.

Me lo auguro veramente 28 milioni in 5 anni per uno che è alla seconda stagione ed alla prima da starter sono un bel pò di denaro e poi non è ufficiale. :gazza:

But the 49ers have undoubtedly studied the merits of packaging some of those picks to move up in the draft to get another first- or second-round selection.

For instance, they could trade their second-round pick (No. 42) and all three of their tradeable fourth-round picks (Nos. 104, 110 and 124) to get another first round pick around No. 27. Is that worth it?

Or they could package their third-round pick (No. 76) and their first two fourth-round picks (Nos. 104 and 110) to move up 23 spots to get the No. 53 overall selection -- another second-round selection.

Then, they would still have two fourth-round picks (Nos. 124 and 135), which would give them six picks in the first four rounds including three picks in the first two rounds.

The trade possibilities are endless. They could trade three fourth-round picks to move up to No. 76 (third round), but they already own the No. 76 selection, so they'd be trading with themselves. OK, so maybe the possibilities aren't endless.

Con Gore abbiamo sistemato l'ultimo tassello prima del draft! Sono molto contento che non si vada verso odiosi holdout o bracci di ferro tra giocatore e dirigenza.

Ora McCloutioetlkjherhbtieuigan e Nolan possono concentrarsi esclusivamente sulle scelte al draft: secondo me ne abbiamo troppe (inutile portare 10 giocatori in squadra per poi non poterli tenere a roster), quindi la scelta migliore e' trade up per prendere un altro primo o secondo giro... o magari entrambe :D

Alla fine sembra cheRosenhaus abbia abbassato la cresta, mi sembra che le cifre del contratto di Gore siano ben lontane da essere quelle del giocatore più pagato della lega.
