The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Rams RB Steven Jackson averaged 27 "touches" per game during the regular season in 2006. Jackson said it took his body a full month to recover from that workload, 436 touches on 346 carries and 90 receptions. He was just six shy of the franchise record of 442 touches set by RB Eric Dickerson in 1983. Although he clearly enjoys his burgeoning role as the centerpiece of the St. Louis offense, Jackson isn't averse to sharing the workload a bit. "Hopefully, we get someone ... to shoulder some of the burden with me," he said. "I just don't want to burn myself out too fast. At the same time, I'm glad that I was durable, that I was able to carry the workload."

L'anno scorso si lamentava perché toccava poche volte la palla, ora che la tocca troppe volte. Mi pare il classico giocatore fenomenale, atleta mostruoso, che però se tenesse qualche volta in più la lingua a bada sarebbe meglio. Comunque sia non sono dichiarazioni destabilizzanti, non era abituato ad essere così coinvolto negli schemi offensivi (oh, sono 436 palloni toccati, significa più di 27 a partita, sono tantissimi anche per un atleta come lui, specie per un RB col suo stile di gioco) e ha risentito un po' delle fatiche di una stagione in cui è diventato il fulcro del sistema offensivo.

Dare a SJ della fighetta è quantomeno folkloristico. E' lui che cerca il contatto del difensore.

With the start of the free agency and trading period just 10 days away, the Rams are coming close to decision time on several veteran players, including center Andy McCollum and offensive guard Adam Timmerman. "As of right now, we're still kind of status quo," coach Scott Linehan said Tuesday. "If we made a decision on one or both, it would probably be something we'd do prior to March 2. I've met with Jay about it." Although Linehan didn't tip his hand, agent Mark Bartelstein — who represents McCollum and Timmerman — has an idea of how things will play out in the next week or so. He thinks McCollum will be back with the Rams, and Timmerman won't.

Sono entrambi datati, ma al momento c'è più bisogno di McCollum che di Timmerman. I due posti di G sono già occupati da Incognito e dal rientrante Terrell, nella posizione di C c'è qualche dubbio in più. Lo scorso anno Romberg ha giocato le ultime 3 partite in quella posizione in maniera discreta, permettendo a Incognito di tornare nel suo ruolo naturale di guardia, ma probabilmente non ci si fida totalmente di lui nella posizione di starting C. Timmerman ha dato tanto alla franchigia, è un uomo di ferro (striscia di 184 partite consecutive interrotta proprio quest'anno) ma ha risentito parecchio dell'infortunio alle costole subito in RS e a 35 anni ci sono dubbi su come si riprenderà. Oltretutto pesa sul cap 1 mln in più circa rispetto a McCollum. La sensazione è che gli si permetterà di sondare il mercato per cercarsi un' altra sistemazione.

Un pezzo di storia della franchigia che se ne va. Ha combattuto a lungo contro una malattia che l'ha costretto per diverso tempo alla sedia a rotelle. Che riposi in pace.

Come previsto, Timmerman è stato rilasciato. 35 anni, 8 stagioni con i Rams, 2 SB giocati, 2 convocazioni al Pro Bowl. Il prossimo anno non sarebbe stato starter, Incognito tornerà nella sua posizione naturale di RG e quindi il suo contratto nella logica di mercato era risparmiabile. 1.3 mln di cap "salvato", che si andrà quasi sicuramente ad aggiungere al milione che rientrerà dal contratto di Coakley, anche lui prossimo al taglio.

Queste le parole di Linehan: "I told Adam we've just got to make a move with some of these players that were starting to emerge, and that at this point in his career he probably doesn't deserve to be a backup. Our organization is indebted to him for his years of service. He helped a great offense. Got to a couple Super Bowls. He had a great run with the Rams."

Della squadra del SB del '99 ormai sono rimasti solamente Bruce, Holt, McCollum, Pace, Little e Wilkins con Faulk prossimo al ritiro. L'augurio è che possa trovare spazio in qualche altra franchigia, ma un contratto, come ha rassicurato anche il suo agente, non farà fatica a trovarlo.

Le sue parole d'addio: "We've loved St. Louis. Loved the people we met here. Hopefully, the people will remember who I am, and that's as more than a football player, as a Christian, and as someone who cared about other people, and cared about the community. We've definitely become attached to the community."

Dopo il rilascio di Dexter Coakley (per lui cmq probabile la ri-firma), arriva via trade il primo acquisto di questa offseason. James Hall, 30 anni, 8 anni a Detroit, è il nuovo DE dei Rams (arriva in cambio di una quinta scelta). L'acquisto di un opposto a Little era una priorità assoluta nelle mosse della dirigenza: arriva un giocatore con esperienza, un all around ottimo tanto in pass rush quanto contro le corse, che permetterà a Adeyanju di acquisire maggiore esperienza come backup. Escludendo Little per gli altri DE solamente due sack complessivi nella stagione appena trascorsa. Si spera che con questo acquisto le cose migliorino e che le OL avversarie inizino a pensare che il sack può arrivare anche da destra. Ora bisogna prendere un DT (prima scelta al draft?).

In giornata sono arrivati a Gateway City in visita Drew Bennett, WR dei Titans, e Tully Banta-Cain, OLB dei Patriots. Il primo è lo slot receiver che Linehan tanto cerca: alto, grosso, capace di andare nel mezzo senza timore. Viene da una stagione un po' deludente, ma ha qualità indubbie che ha mostrato in passato. Uno dei migliori WR disponibili sul mercato. Banta-Cain è un OLB che all'occorrenza può giocare DE. A dire il vero è più adatto a una 3-4, ma fa parte del progetto di Haslett di avere una difesa più flessibile, capace di giocare più situazioni. Prenderebbe il posto di Raonall Smith.

Ha firmato Drew Bennett. Contratto di 6 anni, sono curioso di vedere a che cifre. Come detto, preso il WR che Linehan cercava: alto, potente ma con una velocità incredibile considerata la stazza (6-5 x 206). A mio parere il miglior modo possibile per sostituire Curtis, sul mercato probabilmente non c'era di meglio. Sarà l'ex Titans, quando Bruce si ritirerà, a prenderne il posto.

E' stato offerto un contratto anche a Banta-Cain.
