PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Shaun Nua and defensive tackle Scott Paxson to its Reserve/Future roster, the team announced today.

Nua (6-5, 280) spent the majority of the 2006 season on the Steelers' practice squad. Nua was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 3 following the team's training camp. He was released on Oct. 11 but re-signed to the practice squad on Oct. 16, where he remained for the rest of the season.

Nua was originally drafted by Pittsburgh with its first pick in the seventh round of the 2005 draft (228th overall) out of Brigham Young. He was signed to the team's practice squad following the 2005 training camp. Nua signed to the Steelers' active roster on Nov. 23 last season but did not play a game.

Paxson (6-4, 292) signed this year with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie free agent from Penn State. Paxson was waived following training camp but was signed to the team's practice squad on Dec. 12, where he spent the remainder of the season.

Why does everyone keep saying that Woodley is slow and would not be able to play LB? He played LB in the Michigan defense last year and moved to DE this year because that is where they needed him. He is very similar to Shawn Merriman in Speed. His predicted 40 is 4.6 to 4.7, and that is very comparable to Merriman. He also is supposed to be down to about 255 from 270. Lets just hope he uses Steroids like Merriman and maybe he will get 17 sacks for us.

No no...è che un bellissimo documentario visto qualche tempo fa dal titolo Steeler Nation

mi ha aiutato molto. In pratica gli abitanti del South Pennsylvania hanno sviluppato una sorta di dialetto che li contraddistingue dal resto dell'America; non è la "parlata classica" dell'Est, nè quella biascicata del Sud, nè tantomeno quella dei ghetti.

Yinz ne è il classico esempio...è una parola usata correntemente al posto del pronome di seconda persona plurale "voi", in realtà è una contrazione di you ones...ma è un neologismo talmente particolare e comune che è finito per andare a definire il Pittsburghese doc al di là del suo significato letterale; è una sorta di bandiera e lo stesso Cowher nella conferenza stampa di addio ha detto qualcosa tipo "Yinz sarà parte di me anche quando me ne andrò a vivere altrove".

Un altro esempio di pittsburghese è dahntan che anche in bocca a un americano sembra una parola francese...in realtà è il modo locale per dire downtown

E se alla fine la spuntasse Chan Gailey?
In fondo qui non ci sono da mettere le fondamenta di un nuovo palazzo, il gruppo di core players c'è ed ha sufficiente talento, bisogna mettere un paio di pezze qua e là (Oline, LB e secondarie) e si può ragionevolmente considerare questa squadra una contender.
Perchè Gailey? Perchè è già stato a Pittsburgh (1994-97) ed ha un'esperienza da head coach ad alto livello (Cowboys 98-99 con due apparizioni ai PO), cosa quest'ultima che gli dà un certo vantaggio rispetto a tutti gli altri coach intervistati.
La scelta si avvicina...stay tuned.
