A quanto pare ieri s'è incontrata una squadra che sta peggio di noi, senza veri playmaker in attacco e con una difesa ancora discreta, ma lontana dall'eccellenza di qualche anno fa.
In attacco Gradkowski non è semplicemente in grado di tenere in piedi la baracca...eppure qualche opportunità gliel'abbiamo concessa, perchè noi facciamo giocare chiunque quest'anno
Insomma abbiamo vinto una partitaccia, ma di questi tempi una W è tutto quello che ci occorre per guardare al futuro con un pò di serenità.
Cedrick Wilson e Ryan Clark infortunati..Anthony Smith e udite udite Sean Morey hanno
preso il loro posto senza farli troppo rimpiangere. Non so se era già attivo ieri, ma nel post partita Cowher ha menzionato Walter Young, un ricevitore che da qualche annetto si fa le ossa nella practice squad per poi migrare in Nfl Europe durante la offseason.
E' il big target (6-4 220 lb) che Ben ha spesso detto di preferire, senza che peraltro ai piani alti si affannassero a procurargliene uno da quando Plax è andato a cercar fortuna nella Grande Mela.
Con Ward, Wilson e il lungodegente Reid fuori, può darsi abbia una chance di mettersi in mostra...certo se schierano Morey da WR, anche Young può fare la sua porca figura .
Ci attende una settimana cortissima...giovedì riceviamo i Browns.

Out of the stench of as ugly a win as you might ever see in the National Football League, came a tiny sliver of false optimism concerning the Steelers. Only the hopelessly optimistic would make anything of it, but, when it comes to the Steelers, there are large numbers of such believers.
The thinking goes something like this:
Since the Steelers, who are 5-7, have won three of their past four, they're peaking at just the right time. Which, of course, brings to mind last season, when they rallied from the brink of playoff extinction to a Super Bowl championship.
Dare we dream they might do it again? No, no, a zillion times no.
It's true the Steelers have won three of four, including a 20-3 squashing of the hopelessly inept Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday at Heinz Field, but these victories really don't offer much hope. That was particularly true of yesterday's fiasco where the Steelers did next to nothing to distinguish themselves. Normally, a 20-3 win in the NFL is a victory to brag about, but not against the Buccaneers.
The Steelers have seen some awful teams this year, but none approaches the level of putridness that is the calling card of the Buccaneers. Poor Bruce Gradkowski, the Dormont kid who came back to his home town as a starter in his rookie NFL season. With no running game behind him and with little protection in front of him, Gradkowski rarely had a chance. His best moment came midway through the third quarter, with his team only down by 10, when he perfectly threw to wide receiver Michael Clayton, who was all by himself on the Steelers' 15. Clayton dropped the ball.
The point is this: A win against the Buccaneers, be it a shutout or by 40 points, is no indication of playoff readiness
What remains particularly alarming about the plight of the Steelers is that for the third consecutive game the team that is supposed to live by the run has shown no ability whatsoever to run. And this time it wasn't the Baltimore Ravens, the stern defense that stifled the Steelers last week, but the Buccaneers, who were 23rd in overall defense in the NFL and 20th against the run.
Against this defense, and with a lead for 45 minutes of the game, the Steelers could gain only 76 yards on 31 carries, a miserable 2.4-yard average. It was a familiar refrain. Against the Ravens' superior defense, the Steelers gained 21 yards on 11 carries. A week earlier against the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers ran 20 times for 77 yards.
Worse than those numbers has been the ineffectiveness of Willie Parker, who went into the game as the fourth-leading rusher in the AFC. Only a late surge gave Parker 61 yards on 22 carries. On his first 14 carries, he managed only 20 yards. A week earlier against the Ravens, Parker gained 22 yards on 10 carries. Facing the Browns, he ran 16 times for 46 yards.
Fast Willie is becoming Two-Yard Willie.
This is disquieting not only because of what has transpired recently but what it means for the future. Without the run, the Steelers aren't the Steelers.
Tampa Bay went so easily that it took almost nothing from the Steelers' offense to accomplish the victory. Not only was Parker shut down, but Ben Roethlisberger continued to be mediocre. He completed 12 of 25 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His passer rating was 85.1.
His performance was such that coach Bill Cowher damned him with faint praise. He cited Roethlisberger as playing "a very solid game."
Had Roethlisberger performed in a similar solid fashion in the Steelers' first three playoff games last season, the team would not have gotten close to the Super Bowl.
For those who are still in love with the three wins in the past four games, here are some facts they should know: The following nine AFC teams have better records than the Steelers: New England, New York, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, San Diego, Denver and Kansas City. These three AFC teams have records equal to the Steelers: Tennessee, Buffalo Miami.
One more fact: Six teams make the playoffs.
It's sad but true -- the Steelers are bottom-feeders in the AFC. Three wins out of four hasn't changed that. Dreamers might suspect that the Steelers can win out and at least be in consideration for a playoff bid. But after a game Thursday against Cleveland, there are no more Tampa Bays on the schedule. There are real football teams: Carolina, Baltimore and Cincinnati, all with winning records. All, by almost every indicator, better than the Steelers.

Diversi roster move ieri...
...partiamo da quello che fa più rumore e che ci riempie di gioia: abbiamo tagliato Duce Staley :evvai: :evvai: ...quest'uomo in tre anni agli Steelers ha giocato le prime 7 partite del 2004, poi gli infortuni e la terrificante condizione con cui s'è presentato al training camp quest'anno l'hanno tenuto ai margini della squadra, con un contratto che ha continuato tuttavia a garantirgli un bel pò di grana. In definitiva uno dei più grossi bidoni che si siano visti da queste parti: complimenti agli Eagles che ce l'hanno rifilato.
Willie Reid, la sfortunatissima 3a scelta del draft 2006 è stato infine messo in IR, dopo tante partite in cui era rimasto inattivo per un -a questo punto è lecito dire grave- infortunio a un piede.
I due posti a roster liberatisi sono stati occupati da due cavalli di ritorno: Lee Mays, che rispunta sempre come la gramigna , e Chidi Iwuoma che potrà darci una mano con gli special team di cui è stato co-capitano.
Contro i Browns dovrebbero (quasi sicuramente) mancare ancora Hines Ward e le due safety titolari (Polamalu e Clark)...dunque seconda partenza da starter per Santonio, prima per Anthony Smith, che con Tyrone Carter andrà a comporre il duo di safety.
Vediamo un pò che combinano 'sti ragazzi.

puff... siamo 55-53 nelle All Time Series. Per pareggiare come tutti dicono dovete prendervi anche le due gare dei playoff e probabilmente anche una manciata di partite in cui non c'eravamo. L'unica certezza è questa, che anche se avete vinto 20 delle ultime 23... sono 56 anni che ci rincorrete. :hehe: Buon ponte caro! :D

Mah, il buon Joey farebbe bene a ripensare a quello che è andato storto finora; e ce n'è di materiale da "rivisitare": personalmente, come forma di tortura, lo costringerei a rivedersi la partita di Oakland una volta al giorno ...
...le prossime sono @ Carolina, vs Baltimore e poi chiusura in bellezza @ Cincinnati. Obiettivamente questa squadra non mi dà alcun motivo di credere che possa strappare 3 W contro avversarie così quotate: anche ieri due fumble e un FG bloccato, ma soprattutto un primo tempo in cui abbiamo fatto una fatica bestiale a mettere punti sul tabellone.
E' vero che mancava il primo terminale offensivo (Ward), ma quando entriamo nelle 20 avversarie e il campo si restringe incontriamo enormi difficoltà; difficoltà che contro squadre mediocri si traducono in un field goal, contro difese toste spesso quest'anno c'è scappato l'intercetto sulla goal line.
Capitolo Willie Parker: ieri ha messo insieme 223 yards su corsa - record di franchigia - e in stagione è già a 1200 con tre da giocare, ma andiamo a vedere a che media ha corso contro i Chargers, i Ravens o i Jaguars. Intendiamoci, il ragazzo è uno dei punti di forza di questa squadra, ma è indubbio che spesso non è stato un fattore; le sue prestazioni sono o bianco o nero: o corre a 8 di media o sotto le 2. E questi non sono i numeri giusti per una squadra che vive di ground game.
L'ho detto stanotte e lo ripeto qui...Anthony Smith è un bel giocatorino, passato al draft sotto silenzio, aveva giocato soprattutto special team finora, rifilando qualche colpo da turn off the light; ieri non ho visto la partita, ma su molti passaggi incompleti c'era coverage by A. Smith e in più i due turnovers credo siano entrambi da ascrivere alla matricola da Syracuse...il fumble sicuro (forzato e ricoperto), sull'intercetto c'è un piccolo giallo perchè almeno fino a ieri Andersson aveva un intercetto, ma non era stato ancora attribuito a nessuno, anche se live il play-by-play l'aveva dato al 27.
Cerchiamo di chiudere bene, di commettere il minor numero di vaccate possibili e gustiamoci le giocate dei ragazzini

First things first, we need to take of the Panthers and still need alot of help, but, what seemed impossible has been upgraded to very unlikely, lets see what week 15 brings as far the WC contenders goes.
Week 15
Pittsburgh vs Carolina - Pittsburgh Pgh (7-7)
KC vs San Diego - San Diego KC (7-7)
Denver vs Arizona - Denver Den (8-6)
Jets vs Minnesota - Minnesota Jets (7-7)
Jax vs Tennessee - Jax Jax (9-5)
Cincy vs Indy - Indy Cincy (8-6)
This would leave us one game out with 2 games to play (but, not looking in tie-breakers with Denver) and we could upgrade from very unlikely to maybe it can be done.

Indy è in caduta libera...Cinci è la squadra che ti può affossare o che può farti risorgere, se non altro perchè è una squadra abbastanza speculare a quella di Peytonio, anche se ultimamente le cose in difesa stanno migliorando...prendo Cinci >>> CIN 9-6
ovviamente S.Diego strapazzerà i Chiefs (KC 7-7) e noi...beh noi verremo presi a calci in culo dai Panthers
