Contract Length. Every Rookie Contract shall have a fixed and unalterable contract length: (i) four years for Rookies selected in the first round of the Draft,
with a Club option for a fifth year as described in Section 7 below; (ii) four years for
Rookies selected in rounds two through seven of the Draft (including any compensatory
draft selections); and (iii) three years for Undrafted Rookies.

Exercise Period. A Club has the unilateral right to extend from four
years to five years the term of any Rookie Contract of a player selected in the first round
of the Draft (the “Fifth-Year Option”). To do so, the Club must give written notice to
the player after the final regular season game of the player’s third season but prior to
May 3 of the following League Year (i.e., year four of the contract).
(b) Compensation Terms. The Fifth-Year Option is a non-negotiable,
standard fixed Paragraph 5 Salary calculated pursuant to Subsections (e) and (f) below.
Any compensation terms other than the player’s Paragraph 5 Salary described in Subsections (e) and (f) below are prohibited.

(e) Fifth-Year Option for First Ten Selections in Round One.
(i) For a Drafted Rookie selected with one of the first ten overall picks in
the Draft, the Paragraph 5 Salary for the player’s Fifth-Year Option shall equal the Transition Tender that applies in the League Year that is the fourth year of the Rookie’s
Contract (as calculated pursuant to Article 10, Section 4) for players at the same position
(using the categories in Article 10, Section 7(a)) at which the Rookie participated in the
most plays during his third League Year. No other Salary (other than the minimum offseason workout per diem and compensation for community relations/sponsor
appearances or promotional activities (subject to the maximum amounts permitted in
Section 3(b)(iv) above)) is permitted for the Fifth-Year Option.
(ii) The entire Paragraph 5 Salary for the Fifth-Year Option shall be guaranteed for injury-related termination only, effective upon the Club’s exercise of the Option.
The entire Paragraph 5 Salary for the Fifth-Year Option shall be guaranteed for skill,
injury, and Salary Cap-related termination if the player is on his Club’s Active/Inactive
roster at the start of the player’s fifth League Year (i.e., the option year).
(iii) The Fifth-Year Option Paragraph 5 Salary shall not be considered Rookie Salary and will not count against the Total Rookie Compensation Pool, or against the
Club’s Total Rookie Allocation, or for purposes of the 25% Increase Rule.

(f) Fifth-Year Option for All Other Selections in Round One.
(i) For any other Drafted Rookie selected in round one, the Paragraph 5
Salary for the player’s Fifth-Year Option shall equal an amount that would apply in the
fourth League Year of the Rookie Contract if one calculated the Transition Tender for
that League Year by using the same methodology as set forth in Article 10, Section 4, but
using the applicable third through twenty-fifth highest Salaries (as “Salary” is defined in
Article 10) (as opposed to the ten highest Salaries) for players at the position at which
the Rookie participated in the most plays during his third League Year. No other Salary
(other than the minimum offseason workout per diem and compensation for community
relations/sponsor appearances or promotional activities (subject to the maximum
amounts permitted in Section 3(b)(iv) above)) is permitted for the Fifth-Year Option.
(ii) The entire Paragraph 5 Salary for the Fifth-Year Option shall be guaranteed for injury-related termination only, effective upon the Club’s exercise of the Option.

his contract (the option year) shall subject the player to a fine of $30,000 per day, plus
one week’s regular season salary for each preseason game missed.
(ii) Nothing in this Section shall preclude a player and a Club from agreeing
to contract provisions relating to the forfeiture of Salary earnable in any League Year
prior to the player’s option year, subject to the restrictions set forth in Article 4, Section
9.

Leggevo da qualche parte che con il nuovo CBA la firma dei giocatori del 3° giro è la più complicata, perchè c'è margine di interpretazione: stanno in mezzo tra i primi due giri, che sono quasi degli automatici (4-5 anni, tutto assicurato, $$$ praticamente prefissati - gli ingaggi 2012 sono praticamente uguali a quelli dello scorso anno) e i giri dal quarto in poi, che sono a basso rischio per le squadre.

Dagli OTA per ora notizie buone, nel senso che non ci sono infortuni nè, pare, grossi problemi. Wannstedt è impressionato dalla velocità di partenza di Anderson, Barnett è impressionato dai mostri che ha davanti. Buon per loro, ma a giugno siam tutti campioni.
Buone notizie da Kyle Williams, che sembra avanti nel recupero. Thigpen per ora fermato da un infortunio, buon per Young che ha più tempo per mettersi in mostra (e farsi intercettare, ieri da Gilmore).

Dettagli: Bryan Scott sta giocando parecchio come LB da nickel in propettiva anti-TE (di NE, aggiungerei). Pears ha qualche acciacco, quindi si sta vedendo parecchio Hairston a RT e Glenn a LT. Spencer Johnson finalmente viene usato anche come DT, posizione in cui secondo me può rendere al meglio.

Io Merriman l'avrei tagliato.

Pure io .. ma credo che a sto punto resti visto che i DE al momento sono solo 4 (Williams, Kelsay, Anderson e appunto Merriman) con Spencer Johnson come ibrido DE/DT anche lui a forte rischio taglio. Mentre Dwan Edwards, che io lo davo praticamente spacciato, nella nuova linea a 4 per il momento sta sostituendo l'infortunato K. Williams nella formazione “titolare”. Rispetto gli ultimi due anni sembra comunque che si voglia abbassare sia il peso della linea sia dei singoli giocatori.
Comunque se funziona il reparto CB potremmo avere una difesa dominante con tra l'altro solo Byrd in scadenza.

Per quanto riguarda i rookie: Glenn sta giocando fisso come LT titolare, mentre Gilmore per il momento si alterna con Aaron Williams opposto a Leodis McKelvin (io gli preferisco e non di poco Justin Rogers.. anzi per quel che ho visto l'anno scorso lo preferisco anche a Aaron Williams)

If the reports are right about Cleveland putting Colt McCoy on the clearance rack, the Cowboys ought to offer the Browns a late-round pick.

This isn’t about creating competition for franchise quarterback Tony Romo or even backup Kyle Orton, for that matter. It’s about acquiring an intriguing developmental project for a low price.

The ex-Longhorn would be an upgrade over the Aggie.

The Cowboys clearly aren’t excited about Stephen McGee’s development.
