Io sono d'accordo con Multiple riguardo al matchup tra le linee d'attacco dei 'Niners e di Difesa dei Giants.
3 prime scelte su 5 giocatori in OL a proteggere Alex Smith nella tasca;

Nella partita in Regular Season ci hanno concesso "solo" un paio di sack ed entrambi arrivati o da un DT (Linval Joseph) o da una penetrazione centrale (Umeniyora schierato da DT) - Pierre-Paul è stata l'unica partita dove ha faticato a mettere pressione al QB avversario (dalla parte di Staley). Sarà interessante vedere l'approccio che avrà il Def. Coordinator Perry Fewell (NYG) e quale linea Difensiva schiererà, se con Umenyiora e Tuck che si scambieranno una posizione da DT come da routine quando tutti e tre i rushatori puri sono in salute, oppure darà più spazio Linval Joseph e Roky bernard che insieme a Chris Canty svolgono un lavoro più conservativo ma efficace sulle corse centrali. Secondo me partiremo agressivi come al solito con i tre Pass rusher puri più Chris Canty quest'ultimo deve fare una grande partita perchè mi aspetto difficoltà ad aggirare la tasca. Una linea offensiva molto atletica ideale per contrastare l'atletismo di Pierre-Paul, Tuck ed Umeniyora.

Solo 10 turnover concessi in stagione (non succedeva dal 1941 a San Francisco) - quindi attacco molto disciplinato - all'andata, contro di noi, l'unico intercetto l'anciato da Smith è stato colpa del ricevitore (ora non ricordo anche se ho appena visto il filmatino da tossico ) che ha impennato l'ovale nella braccia del CB.

In fase offensiva i Giants hanno sofferto molto le squadre che mettevano pressione a Manning e con Linebacker versatili - il reparto corse in stagione non ha funzionato con grande continuità, mentre nelle prime due di Play-off si è visto un notevole miglioramento. Fondamentale mantenere le corse oneste ma contro Willis e Bowman sarà da vedere, secondo me altra chiave della partita. manning non sarà dietro la scrivania con tutto il tempo del mondo quest volta - Gli Smith sono una minaccia. Quello che mi conforta di più è che, e questa è solo una mia impressione, la OL di NY mi è sembrata trovarsi più a suo agio contro le 3-4 che non le 4-3 (wedi Whasinghton che ha annullato completamente il nostro attacco al ritorno - Orakpo, Kerrigan e Fletcher si alternavano nei blitz e nelle coperture, hanno fatto una partita pazzesca ).

Fondamentale andare in vantaggio, mettere a tabellone un vantaggio difendibile, potrebbe essere una partita molto fisica, c'è chi prevede addirittura un "bagno di sangue". Altra chiave difensiva sarà Michael Boley su Vernon Davis, che verrà tenuto lontano dalla battaglia principale tra le linee. Io, non ho grande fiducia in Chase Blackburn (MLB) anche se a GB ha giocato bene (e non mi riferico al Fumble ricoperto). Da notare anche che all'andata abbiamo fatto un ottimo lavoro su Gore, ma abbiamo subito tantissimo Kendall Hunter.

Due cazzate abnormi di Kyle Williams, la prima è da essere internati, nella seconda bisogna dare i meriti al gunner dei Giants (Williams anche lui....), decidono la partita.
L' impressione era che l' unico modo per i Giants di mettere punti sul tabellone nel secondo tempo fosse questo, qualche turnover....SF con gli aggiustamenti dell half ha cancellato pure Cruz, Eli riusciva a completare solo tirando fuori dal cilindro i conigli (buonissima partita la sua e anche fortunata, con 2 intercetti tolti dal tabellino da drop di DB dei niners).
L' attacco di SF però non è mai riuscito a trovare continuità, Alex Smith male, nulli nei terzi down....

Settimana scorsa si diceva che il football è uno sport meraviglioso, in realtà è uno sport atroce.

Partita che si poteva decidere solo sugli episodi e su chi sbagliava meno: mi sarebbe "piaciuto" di piu' essere battuti dal loro attacco ma tant'e'.
Prima o poi dovevamo pagare il conto alla "fortuna" sui turnover.
Partita decisa dagli episodi e a noi non e' andata bene: 2 int mangiati dai nostri perche' erano in due sul pallone, un fumble "anullato" da un fischio troppo presto degli arbitri, ma alla fine onore ai Giants!

E' vero che e' stato bravo il piccolo Manning, hai ragione... ma nel secondo tempo non e' riuscito a fare niente se non partendo dalle 28. Ha giocato enormemente meglio di Smith, non ci piove, ma il risultato offensivo e' stato molto simile

The offense, however, could not summon the magic that won the divisional-round game the Saints. The two heroes from that game, quarterback Alex Smith and Vernon Davis, hooked up for two long touchdowns against the Giants, including a 73-yard score in the first quarter.

But the offense finished the game with four-straight three-and-out series, and worse than that, converted only once on third down during the game. Asked what he made of Williams' fumbles, Smith said there was plenty of blame to go around.

"I'm looking at it from -- what did we go? One of 13 on third downs?" Smith said. "He didn't lose the game. We lost the game across the board."

A quick whistle from the officials late in regulation also is likely to haunt the 49ers and their fans during the offseason. The controversial call wiped away a potential fumble recovery deep in Giants territory that, had it not occurred, likely would have given the 49ers the lead late in fourth quarter.

The 49ers had forced 43 turnovers entering the game, and they had parlayed a simple formula - take the ball away more than you give it up - into victories throughout the season, including in their win over New Orleans.

Against the Giants, however, the 49ers squandered their chances for takeaways.
One sure interception in the second half was undone when safety Dashon Goldson and cornerback Tarell Brown collided, leaving nether man with the ball and Brown with a head injury that caused him to leave the game.

From that point, the 49ers' top cornerbacks were veteran Carlos Rogers, rookie Chris Culliver and seldom-used Tramaine Brock. A near replay of that missed chance occurred in overtime when Goldson and Rogers ran into each other trying to intercept another floating pass from Manning.

The most troubling, however, was the would-be fumble, which occurred on a six-yard pass to New York running back Ahmad Bradshaw at the Giants 21-yard line with 2:29 remaining. Before Bradshaw went to the ground, he was stripped of the ball by linebacker NaVorro Bowman and the 49ers recovered.

Head linesman Mark Hittner, however, quickly ran to the middle of the field and ruled that Bradshaw's forward momentum has stopped and the play was blown dead before the fumble. The 49ers could not challenge the play in that situation and the team's sideline - where the play occurred - erupted with disbelief.

"It looked like a fumble,"coach Jim Harbaugh said afterward. "Every play that happened in that game with the exception of that one was played out to the conclusion of the play." What made it sting even more is that the 49ers were denied a similar takeaway when they played the Giants in the regular season, that one a 27-20 win for the 49ers.

"That's something we're still talking about," Whitner said. " ... It's a bang-bang play, the refs made the decision, but that's not the reason we lost the game.
