Come mai Bowman al posto di Spikes?

Spikes ha subito una botta al ginocchio lunedì e già durante la partita era stato sostituito da Bowma, se non riesce a recuperare lo sostituirà di nuovo lui (e non avremo altri LB interni a roster).

What is an injury settlement (related to Matt Wilhelm)?

Wilhelm sustained a knee injury in the final exhibition game. The injury settlement was that the 49ers would have to pay him for five games of the regular season. (Teams can't cut injured players.) As part of the league rule, when a team gives a player an injury settlement, he is not eligible to be re-signed by that team for six weeks AFTER the length of the injury settlement. Therefore, the 49ers are prohibited from re-signing Wilhelm until after the 11th game. But Wilhelm can sign with any other team in the league before that.

Intanto non so multiple se hai letto le considerazioni di Raye sul fatto di aver lasciato troppi secondi sul cronometro ai Saints. Lui, in pratica, ha detto che l'obiettivo primario era quello di segnare il prima possibile e di non preoccuparsi troppo dei secondi che eventualmente sarebbero rimasti perché comunque dovevi convertire da 2 (cosa non automatica), e quindi ti sarebbero serviti secondi nell'eventualità che la conversione non fosse riuscita e quindi a dover poi recuperare l'onside kick seguente (quindi sarebbero servito tempo per arrivare in almeno zona da FG).

Alla fine sono 2 punti di vista che ci possono stare entrambi. Io credo che alla fine avrei fatto la stessa scelta del nostro coaching staff perché avevo comunque fiducia che la difesa riuscisse a reggere.
La prossima volta cherchiamo di avere un vantaggio più consistente all'ultimo minuto in modo da non dovercene preoccupare.

Alex Smith looked secure in the pocket Monday night throwing for 275 yards against the Saints. It might have had something to do with the off-field support he's getting from his teammates.

After head coach Mike Singletary called out the team, and specifically Smith, in the locker room after the 49ers' 31-6 opening loss in Seattle, linebacker Patrick Willis stood up and supported his fellow team captain.

Willis told the team no one should judge Smith until they looked at the film.

"I've been in that situation before, and I know how he feels," Willis said Friday. "It looked bad from a fan's perspective. ... But did the receivers run the wrong route? Did the offensive line get the right block? (Smith) works hard, he's been through a lot, and we're all in this together."

Smith said that after the Seattle game, he was so spent (he was hit 11 times), he doesn't remember who said what. But he did say a few players supported him and it meant a lot.

"The respect of your teammates is a big reason why you play," Smith said. "We are accountable to each other, and obviously, we haven't won anything yet. But to have them recognize ... the time you put in, I think it means a lot for any guy in this locker room."
