Re: San Francisco 49ers 2010 - The Gold Rush
BEll'articolo del Chronicle:
[quote]
49ers coach Mike Singletary sat down for his weekly interview for the KPIX pregame show after practice Thursday, more than four hours after he calmly talked his way through the Jimmy Raye/Yahoo! Sports controversy.
As it turns out, Singletary was no longer calm or in the mood to talk about it another second. He has moved on with Raye as his play caller, and no, he won't be adding the Yahoo! Sports homepage to his Internet bookmarks.
Pregame show host Dennis O'Donnell opened by complimenting Raye, then after referring to the Yahoo story that criticized Raye, asked Singletary what is the truth.
"What's the truth?" Singletary asked on a segment that will air on tonight's 6 p.m. news. "Jimmy has been in the league 33 years. He's been a coordinator for longer than you've been doing this. How does a guy be a coordinator and be successful all those years and not be good at what he does? That does not even make sense to me, the question. I don't mean to be disrespectful but it doesn't make any sense, the question you're asking."
That's when Singletary's trademark emotions really kicked in.
O'Donnell: I'm basing it on what was said in the Yahoo article ...
Singletary: But don't base a man's entire career on a dang-gum Yahoo commercial.
O'Donnell: That's the point I'm trying to make because as I said ...
Singletary: The point I'm trying to make is I don't want to talk about the Yahoo deal. It really pisses me off now that I sit here and think about it. We just talked today and I had a press conference today. I don't want to talk about the Yahoo thing anymore. Whoever said it, I don't care who said it, it's over. I want to move forward.
O'Donnell: So there's no truth to it?
Singletary: I want to move forward.
O'Donnell: Let's talk about Alex moving forward into Monday night. In situations where maybe he's not getting a play by a certain amount of time, if he can see ...
Singletary: Alex will be fine Monday night. Watch the game and you will see that Alex will be fine. I don't want to talk about time. I don't want to talk about clock. I don't want to talk about any of that. I want to talk about New Orleans if you want to talk about that.
O'Donnell: I'm alluding to ...
Singletary: I want to talk about New Orleans if you want to talk about that.
O'Donnell: OK. Let's talk about trying to stop Drew Brees.
Singletary: We will not try to stop Drew Brees. We will stop Drew Brees. Next question.
O'Donnell: Let's talk about trying to move the ball against the New Orleans defense ...
Singletary: We will not try to move the ball against the New Orleans defense. We will move the ball and we will score.
O'Donnell: Obviously there's a sense of frustration that's built ...
Singletary: No, there's not a sense of frustration. I'm just being honest. I had a conversation about this early today and I came in here ready to talk about New Orleans and we get all this other. I'm just tired of talking about that. I'm ready to go. I am excited, I'm ready to go, I just finished talking to my team, I'm ready to go. We can talk about New Orleans, let's go, but I don't want to talk about all this other stuff.
Fine. Singletary got fired up and emotional with his linebacker eyes bugging out like it was 1985 again. But what does this all mean?
It is clear Singletary is ticked off there is a leak in the building. It is clear Singletary is driven hard by his emotions, for better and for worse. We saw that when he tore into his team after Sunday's 31-6 loss, then called a team meeting when the plane landed hours later to clear up what he just said.
And right now, he's ticked off to have to answer questions about his offensive coordinator's ability to do something as simple as call in plays when he has a defending Super Bowl champion to deal with Monday.
The best way to make this issue go away is not to beat the Saints. All they have to do is compete, show up, be competent, run their plays. You know, things expected of an NFC West contender.
Emotions will carry Singletary and the 49ers only so far. And there's nothing wrong with coaching with emotion -- it's got Pete Carroll to 1-0. But there has to be coaching with the coaching, too. That's also what got Carroll to 1-0.

Abbiamo tempo e come dice uno piu' famoso - Buon Lavoro !!!!
