I think there are way more tactical aspects into this than you might suspect. I doubt many managers would be happy to give you the advantage you're looking for, it looks like a pretty competitive league, which is a good thing.

You might also want to consider that, as of today, basically all the big names available are still on the board (imho, obviously), so I doubt anything happened that can ruin your franchise.

hai visto a quanto sta Lindstrom, o Iginla..no, perchè mi viene da ridere...noi ci siamo assicurati un centro in ascesa per i prossimi 3 anni, ovvero mentre nei prossimi 2 anni ci sarà gente che si blocca il cap con contratti assurdi a mega-star in declino, noi avremmo speso lo stipendio di thornton per 2 c giovani e futuribili C...

what i don't understand is, if you are going to bid on a player, why the hell do you watch that player for days, wait till the counter is >12 hours, and then bid last second

that is such an asshole thing to do.

If you want to bid on a player, bid on him right away, don't fuck up everyone's plans.  If i'm competing with someone else for a player, i'll bid on him right away and try to beat the offer.

Why wait?  If i know someone outbid me, i can bid for SOMEONE ELSE.

dom, there can be several reasons for that...

and one of them is exactly what you just wrote; the worst other teams of my conference do in the free agency, the better for me.. so if they miss on the player they are bidding on and on other players that pass by in the meantime, it's better for my team's chances.

but there are more.. in no particular order:
- the opportunity to "bid for SOMEONE ELSE" goes both ways.. maybe i was planning on grabbing other guys, and once they grow over the budget i established for them, i realize i have to sign someone else for that position.. and if i realize it when your player bidding is expiring and i feel like he is going for a fair price, i won't care if it's late in the bidding, i just make my bid.
- revenge..  no need to explain further i guess
- other possible strategies i don't feel like going into it..
- non strategies matters.. like being away for a day or two, and making a bid once i come back and realize that player of my interest is going..
- or like having missed that player bidding before, or just changing my mind before his bidding is over..
- or like having to wait for my co-GM to fill in on the matter
.......

bottom line, you should not let your hopes grow up about your offers until the player gets beyond the 12hrs left mark (minimum raise -> 0.5) and you feel like you're offering market value..

Dubinsky puo essere anche uno steal, ma dipende da quanto riesce a restare sano Gaborik più che da lui. Non stiamo parlando esattamente di un Crosby insomma, almeno secondo me.

Dubinsky sarebbe un onesto 3rd liner nell'80% delle squadre NHL. A NY gli va bene che non ha davanti nessuno.

In effetti i Rangers sono una squadra davvero tirata su in modo bizzarro, praticamente hanno un rosa con cui dovrebbero avere 15 milioni di cap libero e invece non ne hanno affatto. Speriamo Sather resti molto a lungo...ma secondo me se mancano i playoff anche quest'anno sarà preso a pedate nel fondoschiena.  :gazza:

Alex Burrows is projected to start the 2010-11 season on injured reserve due to off-season shoulder surgery. The gritty winger underwent the procedure in June to repair a torn labrum and he may not be available to return until November or possibly December.
