The NFL Players Association is monitoring a little-known "85-percent rule" after two minor trades this week involving rookie players were made even as confusion reigned over the rule's application.

Under the rule, which is only applicable in an uncapped year, any drafted rookie that is cut by his team has 85 percent of the $310,000 first-year minimum salary reallocated to rookies who do make the club.

The rule came under scrutiny when the Redskins and Rams exchanged rookie players in separate transactions earlier this week. The Washington Redskins traded rookie tight end/fullback Dennis Morris to the St. Louis Rams for a future conditional draft pick; the Redskins then acquired rookie linebacker Hall Davis, also for a conditional draft pick.

One other rookie trade involving sixth-round draft picks between the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles also fell under scrutiny -- Arizona dealt rookie cornerback Jorrick Calvin for rookie fullback Charles Scott.

capitolo Revis, (opinione personale che faccia una gran cazzata a rimanere holdout dato che perde 16.000$ per ogni giorno che ci rimane) le parti sembra non trovare accordo, lui vuole almeno 180 mil$ (e quindi il CB + pagato della lega), WJ ne offre 140, solo che Revis ha hancora due anni di contratto firmato a suo tempo da rookie, che succede se quest'anno non gioca? diventa FA il prossimo anno o rimane a roster?
Mangold e Brick (che aspettavano l'estensione) non hanno saltato un giorno di TC, alla fine l'estensione è arrivata, Harris aspettava anche lui un estensione che non è arrivata, staremo a vedere, WJ ha dichiarato che se Revis non firma prima dell'inizio della stagione quest'anno non gioca nemmeno una partita.

League officials decided to move umpires from the old spot, in the middle of the defense, to behind the deepest running back for safety reasons. But Peyton Manning complained about the switch after being called twice for illegal snaps when the umpire couldn't get into position quickly enough last week at Green Bay.

The NFL will again re-evaluate the new policy after this week's preseason finales. The change could become permanent when the regular season starts.

Credo che questa modifica rispetto al cambiamento originale non risolva niente, anzi sia abbastanza ridicola.
Qui c'è in ballo da una parte la fluidità del gioco, dall'altra la sicurezza degli arbitri. L'NFL deve fare una scelta precisa su quale delle due è più importante.

nella vecchia posizione gli arbitri, oltre ad essere un aiuto per l'attacco, più a rischio, ed essere sandichati fra un RB e un LB non è cosa piacevole

il problema, come ha sollevato PM (il giocatore), è più legato alla ripresa del gioco che alla sistemazione del pallone, perché l'arbitro deve andare qualche yard dietro al QB

The Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants have had discussions about trading for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, league sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Leinart and the Cardinals are tiring of each other and as each day passes, many believe a trade of Leinart, who is unhappy that he's not starting, is more likely with roster moves coming this weekend, sources said.

Mah. A meno che non vada a Buffalo, che ha smentito sul sito ufficiale della squadra che farà una trade per lui, non vedo come Leinart possa essere titolare ad Oakland o a New York.
