Milan in tournee negli States, stanotte gioca a chicago...tutta roba di marketing e si cerca di creare entusiasmo per l'assegnazione dei mondiali 2018! L'onore era gia toccato, forse a detroit, a costacurta qualche anno fa :)

Max Scherzer batte il record di strikeouts messi a segno con meno di sei innings lanciati. Il record precedente era di Kevin Appier (Kansas City vs Texas) che eliminò 13 battitori al piatto in 5 innings e 2/3 nel maggio del 1994. Scherzer ne ha eliminati 14 sempre il 5 innings e 2/3.

Ubaldo Jimenez shut out the Giants on Monday lowering his ERA to 0.78 this season. That's a major-league record for the lowest ERA for a pitcher through his first 11 starts of a season.

Monday's duel between Jimenez (9-1 entering the game) and Tim Lincecum was by one measure almost unprecedented. There was only one other starting pitcher matchup - before June - between the reigning Cy Young Award winner and a pitcher with nine or more wins to that point in the season.

On May 23, 1971 Jim Perry (Twins) started against Vida Blue (Athletics) at the Oakland Coliseum. Perry had won the A.L. Cy Young award in 1970 and Blue entered that game with a 9-1 record. Blue threw a complete-game five-hitter that day in Oakland's 3-1 victory and he finished that season with a 24-8 record, winning the Cy Young award himself that year.

Tra l'altro è un dato che fa ancora puù impressione se si pensa che gioca le partite casalinghe in uno stadio non certo amico dei pitchers.

Si è ritirato Ken Griffey Jr.

Uno dei più grandi giocatori della storia. Uno degli atleti di maggiore classe che abbia mai visto. Ormai si trascinava per il campo stancamente da qualche anno. Ha fatto bene a ritirarsi. First ballot Hall of Famer, un'icona, una leggenda. Ha ammesso di non essere più all'altezza e di essere solo un ingombro ed una distrazione. Ma la storia non si cancella.
