Secondo me il taglio (o buyout, anche se mi sembra molto poco probabile) resta l'unica opzione percorribile se vuole tornare a giocare e non gli va bene quella dirigenza.

Di quell'assurdo contratto restano 4 anni e circa 75M, non se li prende nessuno mai e poi mai, anche alla luce della prossima introduzione (2011) di un nuovo CBA, che molto probabilmente ridimensionerà gli stipendi dei giocatori.

Ma possono tagliarlo?
Se possono i bookmakers non lo quotano nemmeno secondo me.

Tra l'altro Arenas con un contratto umano da 7-10 milioni e un bel giocatore per qualsiasi franchigia se e` quello di 2 anni fa.

E come volevasi dimostrare, per la serie due pesi e due misure, mentre Arenas è stato sospeso fino a fine anno, Crittenton.... è stato sospeso fino a fine anno anche lui... :D

Arenas ha aggiunto che "siccome lui si comporta da uomo" non farà appello contro la sospesione.

Credo che fino all'estate le cose non si muoveranno. Poi magari salterà fuori qualcosa in stile Sprewell

Arenas, Crittenton Suspended For Remainder Of Season

Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton have each been suspended for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, the NBA announced in a press release to RealGM and other media outlets.

Arenas asked commissioner David Stern for the suspension during their Wednesday meeting.

According to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Arenas also told Stern that he would tell the players' union not to fight the suspension.

The same source said that during the meeting, Arenas asked Stern about the possibility of having the remaining four years of his six-year $111 million contract voided, to which Stern replied, "That would be left up to the team."

According to a source, Arenas has intimated to friends, as well the NBA that he no longer wishes to play for Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld again. “The NBA has conducted a thorough investigation of events relating to this matter," said Stern in a press release. “It is not disputed that, following an argument on the team’s flight home from a game in Phoenix, both Mr. Arenas and Mr. Crittenton brought guns to the Verizon Center locker room and – with other players and team personnel present or nearby – displayed them to one another in a continuation of their dispute. The players engaged in this conduct despite a specific rule set forth in the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the Players Association prohibiting players from possessing a weapon at an NBA facility, and reminders of this prohibition given annually by the NBA to players both in writing and in person. “The issue here is not about the legal ownership and possession of guns, either in one’s home or elsewhere. It is about possession of guns in the NBA workplace, which will not be tolerated.

“I have met separately with Mr. Arenas and with Mr. Crittenton. Both have expressed remorse for their actions and an understanding of the seriousness of their transgressions. Both have volunteered to engage in community service in order to turn the lessons they have learned into an educational message for others. I accept fully the sincerity of their expressions of regret and intent to create something positive from this incident.

“Nevertheless, there is no justification for their conduct. Accordingly, I am today converting Mr. Arenas' indefinite suspension without pay to a suspension without pay for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, and am also suspending Mr. Crittenton without pay, effective immediately, for the remainder of the 2009-10 season.”

The Washington Wizards also released an official statement:

"The NBA announced today that they have suspended Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for the remainder of the season. We understand and fully support their decision. "Both players violated D.C. laws and NBA rules by bringing guns into the locker room. Their poor judgment has also violated the trust of our fans and stands in contrast to everything Abe Pollin stood for throughout his life. It is widely known that Mr. Pollin took the extraordinary step of changing the team name from “Bullets” to “Wizards” in 1997 precisely to express his abhorrence of gun violence in our community. We hope that this negative situation can produce something positive by serving as a reminder that gun violence is a serious issue. "We look forward to putting this unfortunate incident behind us and once again focusing our full attention on playing exciting basketball in front of our great fans at Verizon Center."

Beh no, messa così sembra che sia nelle facoltà dei Wizards poter annullare il resto del contratto e sta a loro decidere se avvalersi o meno di questa possibilità.

A me invece sembra "la Lega non ci mette ovviamente becco ed è equidistante tra le parti, se poi la squadra vuole provarci deve darsi da fare", però in effetti il dubbio resta

The ruling today should determine whether he faces jail time or probation and community service. Arenas faces a maximum sentence of five years, though similar cases have often resulted in 6 to 24 month sentences. Determining intent and evaluating past history, which includes a previous concealed weapon charge, may play a significant role in determining the sentence.

Perchè dovrei scherzare? Speravo nella pena minima, è così grave? Fa così tanto ridere?

He received 30 days in a halfway house, two years supervised probation, 400 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine. Arenas came out of this about as well as he could have hoped, and it's mildly surprising he avoided jail time. Now we'll have to see when his suspension is lifted, when he will resume his career, and for which team he will play for.

Per lo meno niente galera, meno male, la corte tutto sommato è stata clemente. Alla fine parliamo di una sciocchezza enorme, non è che abbia fatto del male a qualcuno, nè tanto meno c' era l' intenzione di farlo. La pena ci sta: i 30 giorni nella halfway house non dovrebbero essere un granchè come pesantezza, almeno a leggere la descrizione della halfway house su wikipedia. Ora voglio capire in cosa consistono i 2 anni di supervised probation, se è compatibile con la professione di giocatore di basket, anche se temo che alla fine Stern allungherà la sua squalifica anche all' anno prossimo. Quel che è certo è che quando gli sarà concesso, tornerà, non so con chi...ma tornerà a deliziare.

Tiri fuori una pistola, la punti in giro e la rimetti via senza che ti costringa nessuno?
Non conosco il diritto penale americano, ma qui da noi per una roba simile parlare di galera non avrebbe alcun fondamento.
Certo, se lo fa un pluripregiudicato che magari gode di qualche beneficio è diverso, ma se lo fa un incensurato al massimo gli sequestrano l'arma, si becca una multa (corposa, molto corposa) e se gli dice male una condanna con la condizionale, se patteggia anche la non menzione.
