Jonathan Papelbon.

Manny Delcarmen didn't look right down the stretch last season, and there was a reason why.
"His shoulder started bothering him in late July, early August, and that's why he had a 7.27 ERA after the All-Star break," NESN baseball analyst Peter Gammons told Heidi Watney on Monday's edition of Red Sox Hot Stove.
This season, Gammons expects Delcarmen to bounce back and help the Red Sox. If not, Gammons says the Marlins are interested in the righty.

ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports that the two sides did in fact come to an agreement today, and Papelbon will earn $9.35MM on a one year deal in 2010. Incentives could put another $150K in the closer's pocket.

There will be no arbitration showdown between Jonathan Papelbon and the Red Sox.

The Red Sox closer and the club came to terms on a one-year deal this afternoon, according to multiple reports. According to ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes, Papelbon will receive $9.35 million in 2010, with the deal reaching $9.5 million if incentives are met.
This marks the second straight year the Red Sox have come to terms with Papelbon just before the deadline to exchange arbitration numbers. Last season, he signed a one-year, $6.25 million deal, a record for pitchers eligible for arbitration for the first time.
Papelbon, 29, had 38 saves and a 1.85 ERA last season, but blew a save in Game 3 of the American League Division Series sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels.
The agreement means that Theo Epstein's record of never going to arbitration since becoming the Red Sox general manager in 2003 remains intact.

Ed infatti "Martha la sarta" perde!
In novembre aveva 30 punti di vantaggio. Ha cazzeggiato, invece di fare una campagna seria come faceva ad ogni elezione Ted Kennedy, ogni volta.
Asina!

Red Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen has agreed on a deal worth $905,000 with the Sox. The deal includes a $15,000 bonus if he appears in 65 games this season. Delcarmen, who is a native of the Hyde Park and a graduate of West Roxbury High School, was a second-round draft pick by the Red Sox in 2000 and made his major league debut with the Sox on July 27, 2005.

According to Baseball America's Minor League Transactions log, the Red Sox have added five players via minor-league deals. The players are right-handed pitchers Chad Paronto (a New Hampshire native and University of Massachusetts product), Scott Patterson and Kelvin Pichardo; second baseman Ray Chang; and third baseman Christian Colonel. For details on the players, click here.

The same Transactions log noted that the Sox have released right-hander Matt Goodson, shortstop Zach Borowiak and outfielder Brad Wilkerson.

According to Boston.com, newly acquired Red Sox outfielder Jeremy Hermida is still seeking a fresh contract worth $900,000 more than the team’s estimation. Hermida, who made $2.25 million last year before coming over in a trade from the Marlins at the end of the season, is looking to earn $3.85 million in 2010. The Red Sox value the 25-year-old at $2.95 million. As Hermida is eligible for arbitration, the two sides must find a middle ground before Feb. 1 or the decision will go before a three-person arbitration panel which will reward one side with its wish and leave the other with a much lighter wallet.

$3.4m?
