Qualche giorno fa, anche se solo oggi è riuscito a mandare il contratto via fax. Avremmo fatto un annuncio fra un paio di giorni con calma, ma il presidente del Nettuno ha voluto dirlo a tutti subito e quindi...

Per chi mi accusa di pensare solo alle statistiche, ho appena firmato il mio primo giocatore e si tratta di uno da 5+ ERA in A2 l'anno scorso

Ha avuto un tryout killer davvero davanti al mio capo e mi ha facilitato molto la firma. L'anno prossimo consumerà l'infield di Missoula a furia di groundballs. Scouting report completo sul mio blog molto presto.

Ma quel giocatore che avevi portato un anno e rotti fa (quello per cui ti dissero "Se gli altri che ci hai segnalato sono davvero più forti di questo, anche se abbiamo la farm coperta in quei ruoli portali qui che lo spazio glielo facciamo" o qualcosa del genere) non erano "tuoi"?

Si, ma alla fine abbiamo deciso di non firmare nessuno per un insieme di motivi "aziendali". Andrea è il primo che mettiamo sotto contratto. Ad un altro ragazzo abbiamo fornito l'invito per partecipare alla nostra Instructional League, ma non gli abbiamo offerto alcun contratto (per ora... poi se ha un mese eccezionale magari le cose cambiano).
Andrea invece a tutti gli effetti giocherà a Missoula l'anno prossimo. Andrà alla Dominican Instructional League da metà ottobre a metà novembre, poi a marzo andrà in Extended Spring Training. Ha firmato un settennale ed è un Arizona Diamondback già adesso.

Sono pronto a scommettere che entro la fine dell'Instructional League toccherà 92 con la 4-seamer comunque. Tiè, l'ho detto qui e puoi quotarmi

Per chiarire le parentele comunque (visto che ho letto da qualche parte che qualcuno pensasse che Andrea e Matteo fossero fratelli), Andrea è cugino di Matteo. Se non erro del tutto:

Valerio (arbitro di A2), Matteo e Lorenzo (pitcher 14enne) sono fratelli. I loro cugini (e fratelli fra loro) sono Mattia (ex nazionale giovanile ed ora ritirato) ed Andrea.

Andrea e Matteo non si assomigliano per niente, anzi...

Matteo: mancino, "finesse pitcher" con un buon cambio. Biondo, magrolino, occhi azzurri, pelle chiara.
Andrea: destro, "power pitcher" che lancia tutto tranne il cambio. Capelli ed occhi neri, tendenzialmente abbronzato, potente e massiccio con spalle larghe.

Se non lo sapessi, non ci crederei neanche al fatto che siano imparentati

Spero la difesa dietro lui sia almeno decente, se è un grundballer estremo come dici tu non vorrei che una cattiva difesa ne alteri, in peggio, i numeri.

Molto probabile in Rookie League. Non guarderemo la sua ERA (anzi, la ignoreremo bellamente), ma la sua GB% e la consistenza del punto di rilascio (per ridurre le BB). Sono le 2 cose importanti per l'anno prossimo, ed i 2 obiettivi principali, anche più dei K stessi, visto che il suo lancio migliore è una sinker a dir poco pesantissima. E' nell'organizzazione giusta per questo, perchè non permetteremo alla difesa di cambiarne la valutazione individuale.

He is extremely raw, with no command to speak of, and has already turned down an offer from the Cubs. He's looking for several hundred thousand dollars, which is out of line with his current ability.

Si, suo zio ha giocato nelle minors americane coi Padres. Adesso però per sedersi al tavolo gli bastano 400. Bontà sua. Ovviamente non firma fino all'anno prossimo come minimo (e deve abbassare le pretese).

The Diamondbacks are about to sign their first European prospect, a 17-year-old, right-handed pitcher from Italy named Andrea Pizziconi, whose brother, Matteo, has pitched for the Reds' Gulf Coast League affiliate the past two summers.

Andrea is 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, and works mainly off an 88-90 mph sinker, with a promising slider and a chance for four pitches. His arm works well, with a short arm action and early pronation, and he has a chance to add some velocity as he gets older. He's not the best athlete among Italian pitching prospects this year -- that would be the unsigned Francesco Cozzolino, who doesn't throw as hard as Pizziconi does -- but has the best overall package.

•The big signing of the summer out of Europe was the Twins' surprise move to grab German outfielder Max Kepler-Rozycki for $775,000. He is one of the best position-player prospects we have seen from that continent -- a freakishly talented athlete who, in addition to excelling at baseball, played at Steffi Graf's tennis academy on a scholarship from ages 7 to 10, and has passed up opportunities to play soccer professionally in Germany so that he could pursue his baseball career. Right now, Kepler is a four-tool player who can run, throw, field and hit for power. But the biggest hole in his game now is his hit tool because of his swing. He has strong hands and good bat speed, but his back side collapses greatly and he ends up with a forced uppercut swing that will make him very vulnerable to American pitchers who can change speeds on him and show him better breaking stuff than he has seen before. Kepler is just 16 years old and is young enough to change his swing mechanics with improved instruction, and he projects better than many U.S. high school prospects who have similar or better tools but are already two to three years older, like first-rounders Anthony Hewitt and Wendell Fairley.

Kepler's back story is just as interesting as his pro future. Neither of his parents is German by birth. His father defected from Poland during the Communist era, and his mother is American; both are professional ballet dancers and met when they worked for the same ballet company in Germany. Max attended an American school in Germany and picked up baseball there, receiving some instruction from a coach from the Dominican Republic who worked at the school. His younger sister, Emma, is already a 14-handicap golfer at age 13, and had a scholarship to a local figure-skating academy at age 6 before her parents pulled her two years later.

•The Pirates will apparently give five figures to anyone who can speak a foreign language and put his uniform pants on correctly. They signed RHP Dovydas Neverauskas, the first baseball prospect signed out of Lithuania, for $60,000. Neverauskas is all projection at this point, with a fastball up to 88 mph and a tall, lanky build. His delivery is awkward and unclean, and he has no viable second pitch, but he does have some run on his fastball. He turned 16 in January and will make his US debut this month in instructional league.
