Pare proprio che: Alex Smith, ci siamo. (cit.)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers' starting quarterback job is Shaun Hill's to lose.
Schefter says Alex Smith would have to really get hot and Hill flounder for the depth chart to change. Hill started the Niners' exhibition opener, but barely played because coach Mike Singletary is confident in him. Smith needs to light up the Raiders' secondary on Saturday to make it close.
Join the third.
This is unbelievably believable.

Tutti a scuola da Frank"igia" Gore  :forza:

The biggest hit of training camp was delivered today. But it didn't come in a team situation between the Raiders and 49ers and it wasn't given by defensive player. Instead, the blow came courtesy of Frank Gore during a pass-blocking drill when he absolutely leveled Ricky Brown, an outside linebacker and one of the better pass rushers on the Raiders. Gore, who's about 5-9, 215 pounds, put the 6-2, 235-pound Brown on his back.

To say that Gore was excited for today's morning practice would be like saying the Grand Canyon is kinda deep. Remember, he was held out of Friday's game against the Broncos, so today's scrimmage was in effect his preseason opener. After decking Brown, Gore did the same to linebacker Kirk Morrison, who is not exactly a scrub. His third opponent was going to be David Nixon, a slightly built rookie out of BYU. When running backs coach Tom Rathman saw that matchup, however, he pulled Gore out and put in someone who wasn't as lathered up. Nixon ought to send Rathman a thank-you note.

Afterward Mike Singletary joked that he told Gore he'd have to make him watch the rest of the practice from the team bus. "He did a nice job," Singletary said. "Frank is a guy - he gets excited about what he's doing, and to me, his heart and his emotion and his enthusiasm is what this game is all about." Gore, for his part, said he was merely trying to satisfy position coach Rathman, who is constantly harping on pass-blocking technique. Gore said he thought the drill actually favors the linebackers, who are both bigger and can get running starts. "I think it's a linebacker's drill," he said. "Because in a game you can (undercut) them. You can mess with their heads."

Nate Clements picked off a JaMarcus Russell pass in 7-on-7. But once an 11-on-11 red zone period began, things got out of control.

Clements intercepted two more passes, while Dre' Bly and rookie outside linebacker Diyral Briggs picked off a pass apiece. Russell and Raiders reserve QB Bruce Gradkowski were intercepted twice apiece during the drill.

The 49ers' secondary have not experienced that sensation much in camp this summer. But all it took was a trip to Napa to get "fed." After all, Shaun Hill and Alex Smith have not given the 49ers' secondary many opportunities to make plays on the ball.

"I was talking to Shaun and Alex and I said, 'You don't feed us like that in practice,'" said veteran cornerback Dre' Bly. "They fed us today. That buffet was good."  :truzzo:

Bly and Nate Clements said it was the best practice either has witnessed in their combined 20 years of professional football. Briggs said it was the best practice he has seen at any level of football.

"I felt we played at a level that they could not match," Clements said.

Chissà se Murphy ha continuato a parlare....

Both Clements and Bly credited Shawntae Spencer, who had some words while being matched against Raiders rookie receiver Louis Murphy in one-on-one drills.

"A Florida guy," Bly said of Murphy. "They've got two national championships, so I guess you feel like you can dome into this league and talk. I was telling one of the guys, national championships on this level is equivalent to a high school state championship. Nobody cares. That's in the past.

"Murphy got things going, and from that point on, we just dominated practice."

Obviously, Spencer did not back down. He "set the tone for practice," Clements said. "That got my blood flowing."
