Io: Brandon Webb è fuori fino a chissà quando. Jarrod Parker deve superare degli esami fisici e forse sarà fuori pure lui per un po'. Senza pitching è dura e la prossima stagione potrebbe essere già compromessa.

Direi superfluo parlare di quello che accade sul campo, piuttosto mi concentrerei su questa notizia. Che i nostri desideri si stiano avverando?

In today’s Daily News, Adam Rubin cites high-ranking, team personnel as saying John Ricco will ultimately emerge as the team’s next GM.

Ricco has been Minaya’s assistant GM since 2004.

I wrote the following yesterday, here, “If the Mets decide to let Minaya go, from what I understand, they’ll be most inclined to make Ricco the new GM, but pair him up with a strong, heavy-weight talent person, like a Gerry Hunsicker, and do like the Yankees did in the 90s, who teamed up a young business-mind in Brian Cashman with a veteran talent-mind in Gene Michael.”

In addition to Cashman, Rubin also points out how Rays GM Andrew Friedman, Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and Rangers GM Jon Daniels have similar academic, and not scouting, credentials, like Ricco.

…this is the new model, it seems… the game has changed, and the job of the GM is seemingly less eye-ball, talent evaluation, and more business, budgets, contracts, management, etc., though the talent end is still very much needed… and so, the new trend seems to be, to have a strong scouting and player development wing, which makes recommendations to the administrative GM, who then delegates and makes things happen… all while a separate person runs the off-field, stadium and marketing operations…

In his report, Rubin also looks at how much money the Mets will have to spend this off season, while detailing Ricco’s experience in baseball.

L'unica cosa curiosa che segnalo per quanto riguarda la partita di ieri è la sconfitta di Pelfrey, e fin qui niente di nuovo direte voi. I Mets hanno perso soltanto 3 volte contro i D-Backs negli ultimi 18 incontri al Chase Field (dal 2004 ad oggi) e in tutte e tre le sconfitte il pitcher perdente è stato proprio Mike.


Per quanto riguarda la notizia postata da marco, è da un paio di giorni che gira sull'insider di espn.com. A quanto pare sembra proprio che Ricco possa rimpiazzare Minaya in tempi brevi.

Sembra inoltre che Sheffield abbia avuto una conversazione privata con Manuel riguardo alla sua esclusione dal lineup. Qui l'articolo completo.

Ragazzi ormai questa stagione è andata già da un pezzo, ora bisogna concentrarsi sulla questione GM& Offseason...secondo me è l'ora di una rivoluzione, bisogna ritornare ad investire nel farm system per crescere nuovi giovani visto che praticamente è stato distrutto tutto e l'unico potenziale giocatore che può interessare è Wilmer Flores...Per quanto riguarda la rivoluzione nella squadra MLB voi che ne pensate? è fattibile visti i contratti pesanti dei vari Perez, Castillo etc... Con le trade come ci si potrebbe muovere? Secondo me si potrebbe sacrificare Beltran per prendere 3/4 prospetti giovani forti ed inserire come every day CF Fernando Martinez...Delgado quanti anni di contratto ha? Questione catcher: Schneider personalmente non mi piace, si potrebbe scambiare per un giovane catcher ma non penso che Brian abbia tanto trade power...Reyes, Wright, Santana e Pelfrey secondo me sono gli intoccabili, per gli altri può accadere di tutto...

Delgado per fortuna dopo questa stagione se ne va (a meno di improbabili rinnovi, io darei fiducia al buon Murph in prima).
Schneider è davvero imbarazzante (batte sotto la Mendoza Line!)

Beh, Delgado a cifre contenute lo si può tenere. Murphy in prima? Murphy batte .252/.316/.377, fate voi. Purtroppo tra i free agent c'è poco (Huff e LaRoche i migliori...), quindi o rifirmate il buon Carlos o andate di trade.

Difensivamente Murphy è nettamente meglio di Delgado ma la sua mazza è troppo leggera per sostituirlo anche nel lineup. Quindi o si trova un catcher potente (come poteva essere Victor MArtinez) oppure bisogna trovare una soluzione alternativa.

Io Beltran non lo sacrificherei. Con Reyes, Wright e Santana sono già una buona parte di squadra. Certo manca tutto il resto. MA sugli esterni si potrebbe giocare con Beltran al centro, Pagan a sinistra e un platoon Fernando-Francoeur a destra.
La rotazione è da ricostruire, anche se credo che Perez lo vederemo fino alla fine del suo contratto a meno di new entry come GM capaci di trovare un pollo con cui tradare uno dei pitcher più scarsi della MLB.

Il capitolo catcher è una nota dolente. Brian sta facendo una stagione disastrosa. Santos è un piccolo jolly che però va bene come backup. Non vedo all'orizzonte grandi ricevitori su cui buttarci. PEr questo io sarei dell'idea di dare qualche possibilità a Josh Thole, catcher del AA, che batte 330 e ha una OBP di .401. Perlomeno vediamo se può essere interessante. Dicono che la mazza sia pronta mentre è ancora poco preparato nella chiamata dei lanci. Bene. Vediamolo. Batte così da tutta la stagione. Ha 330 AB, non 5!
