Il vero problema è che "quella" scelta non è stata sinora l'unica. Il ruolino del buon AJ Smith e compagnia scout è felicemente positivo in tante "chiamate" (Merriman, Castillo, Cromartie,ecc.) ma anche bello pieno di CAPPELLATE colossali...  :lol2: .
Come ho altrove già ricordato, ad esempio nel draft del 2003 (26-27 aprile) fu subito capace (è diventato chi è oggi il 22 aprile '03) di rinunciare (trade-down) alla selezione di Troy Polamalu per avere più scelte (poi tradotte in Sammy Davis, Drayton Florence e Terrence Kiel R.I.P. con le prime tre chiamate)...e al cambio credo che ci abbiamo un po' perso, visto che cerchiamo SAFETY neanche fosse l'acqua nel deserto Mojave... :D
...eppure sempre nello stesso anno ha saputo selezionare al 5° giro Scifres e poi pescare da undrafted(!!) il fortemente voluto Antonio Gates, oltre a Kris Dielman, Jacques Cesare, Stephen Cooper...
Insomma è un classico GM da selezione BOOM or BUST. Visto però che altrove imperano pure presidenti vecchi e pazzi, è meglio tenercelo stretto... :lol2: magari la prossima volta gli va bene (Martin?, Vasquez?, ecc.)

Sui WR ho volutamente citato Steve Smith (quello finito ai Giants) perché usciva dagli USC Trojans e da un'ultimo anno in cui era stato selezionato tra gli All-American... credo di aver detto tutto.
Poi, spesso, anzi sempre, come ben sai, le fortune dei WR le fanno i grandi QB e viceversa. Pensa ai 2 da te citati sopra. Che succederebbe se Payton Manning lanciasse a Sidney Rice anziché a Anthony Gonzalez? e se invece quest'ultimo provasse a ricevere (?) palloni da Tarvaris Jackson? Risposta esatta...

C'è da dire anche l'aggravante sulla scelta di quel Sammy Davis, subito dopo i Raiders scelsero Nnamdi Asomugha  :sbadat:

On his 30th birthday, Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson received a little present from ESPN.

LaDainian Tomlinson got a little birthday present from ESPN Tuesday.

On the day he turned 30, he also learned that he’d been voted to ESPN.com’s All-Decade Team.

His 11,760 rushing yards are 1,192 more than any other player this decade.  That’s despite the fact that he was still at TCU in 2000, putting him a year behind Edgerrin James, the player that trails him on the list.

LT’s 126 touchdowns this decade give him 26 more than any other player.  Shaun Alexander, formerly of Seattle, is second with 100.

Tomlinson enters his ninth NFL campaign ranked 14th in NFL history in rushing.  He currently holds or shares 28 team records along with a handful of NFL marks, including touchdowns in a season and points in a season.  His 126 rushing touchdowns are second-most in NFL history.

Throughout his career, you’ve always known what you’re going to get from Tomlinson, and he’s most proud of that consistency.  LT is one of just three backs in NFL history to rush for at least 1,000 yards in each of their first eight seasons, and he’s scored at least 10 touchdowns in each of those seasons as well.

"I think my consistency … that means more than anything." Tomlinson said when asked what he is most proud of about his career to date. "As an athlete, you set out to be consistent over a period of time. When you're consistent, your teammates and coaches know what they're going to get from you each and every week."

Tomlinson, a former recipient of the Walter Peyton NFL Man of the Year award in recognition of his diligent work in the community, spent Tuesday in Virginia working the William and Mary Colonial All-Pro Football Camp.

“He’s got great character, great background and he’s had a great offseason.  He’s got about six weeks of work in and he’s been impressive.  He’s a natural pass rusher and I’m excited to get him in pads.  He’s a very strong player who is going to use his leverage real well.”

“I can’t wait to see him when the pads go on because I think he will really step up another notch.  He could battle to be a starter.  It depends on how he handles things.  He’s taken to what we do really well and has been impressive.”

Gartrell Johnson

“Gartrell Johnson has been a really exciting guy in the offseason because he’s a very natural runner,” Turner said.  “He plays faster than he times.  He’s got exceptional ability to make a cut and not slow down.  He doesn’t waste movement.  He’s a guy that will complement our backs.”


Brandon Hughes 

“He’s very natural in the slot. I think he’s going to have a presence on our football team as a young player.  He’s picked up what we’re doing extremely well.  He’s a very competitive player.”


Kevin Ellison

“I think people were concerned about Kevin because he had some injuries but he is 100 percent healthy,” Turner said.  “He’s moving around awfully well.  Again, when the pads go on it will give him a chance to make that much more of an impression.  I think he’ll be a factor on our football team and has a chance to be in our nickel package early and could compete for a starting job.”

Inoltre Mark Fabiani (portavoce dei Chargers) ha anticipato che qualcosa si sta muovendo a livello politico per una soluzione "downtown", zona Gaslamp-Petco Park tanto per intenderci.
Prossimamente lo stesso Fabiani sarà ospite per un podcast di bolttalk.com in cui si potranno avere notizie fresche e di prima mano. Appena sarò a conoscenza della data precisa la posterò anche qui.

La testa è il più grosso problema di questo ragazzo. Se imparasse a ragionare un po' di più dominerebbe, ma va troppo sul tentativo di big play ad ogni costo e all'autoesaltazione del proprio ego.

Concordo totalmente Peyton. Vabbè che una chat va presa per quello che è ma certe risposte son proprio "da sbruffone" e da celebrità. Un bagno di umiltà non farebbe male al buon Antonio che deve ancora dimostrare miglioramenti in fase di copertura prima di proclamarsi il miglior CB della NFL odierna.
Oltretutto, infortunio permettendo, la scorsa stagione non si è dimostrato all'altezza delle aspettative quindi delle dichiarazioni meno egocentriche sarebbero gradite. Poi che abbia il potenziale (e in parte l'abbia già mostrato) non lo metto in dubbio però per ora mi lascia titubante su suoi eventuali progressi.
In tal senso vedo meglio Cason che come rookie ha disputato una buonissima stagione e si è dimostrato più attento di Cromartie.

Difficile vedere un giocatore NFL far sfoggio di modestia; credo che se avessero fatto quella domanda ad un qualsiasi altro CB titolare avrebbe risposto allo stesso modo. Almeno non sono ipocriti.
